OhioWrestlers' D3 & NAIA, wk3 battle assessment:

Well-known member
11/16 Trine Invitational aka D3 Central Regional preview:

10 of the 14 teams at this battlefield got an early measuring stick to see if they are Neo( Keanu
Reeves, Matrix) or Zero( Mark Dacascos, John Wick 3). Both fighters got skills that movie fans
would love to have; the problem is one lost their last fight and the other won his. A lot of things
can happen between now and February, but for now we'll see what's cooking on the barbie.

125- John Perelka ( Brecksville) is making sure he gets to go to the dance in March, making
himself a strong favorite to join Wabash AA Carlos Champagne. I didn't see Dante Ginnetti on
Baldwin Wallace's roster nor the tournament so the 3rd spot might be up for grabs. Freshman
Tariq Hornbuckle, Mount Saint Joseph had a good showing making the semi-final and almost
taking 3rd.

133- I sure guys were missing because the podium looked like a bunch of uninvited guess. It's
gonna be a tough wait to see who's joining Mount Union's David Massey ( Woodridge).
141- Jarrod Brezovec ( Brecksville) put his name on the hat to accompany Jordin James
( Bedford) and Charles Nash ( Norwalk). This is the easiest weight to figure out, barring no
weight cuts.

149- freshman Patrick McGraw( St.Ig) is putting his name and M80s in the hat as he blew away
the field. His only test was a 12- 10 victory over NAIA #3@141 Gaige Torres, Indiana Tech's
AA. Aaron Kelly( Baldwin Wallace) had a name drop performance against Chris Beltre,
Wilmington ( Fairfield) on his way to the finals. Freshman Beltre will be someone to keep an eye
on. Though #2 Zachary Cooper, Alma may command a spot, Beltre will be growing and waiting
in the shadows after finishing 5th; not bad for a 1 x district qualifier and programs like
Wilmington need kids like Chris, just like Patrick McGraw is for John Carroll.

157- No #6. Stanley Bleich, Baldwin Wallace ( Elyria Catholic), no problem we'll throw you
Nicholas Sbrocco ( Perry) & Dalton Leightner ( Rootstown) to torture the weight class until I
return from my load management. Mount Saint Joseph's Chucky Lipps ( Elder) was takedown
away from placing, losing 3- 1 to a foe he beaten in the 2nd Rd.

165- Sam Gross ( Beachwood) did his thing, taking down the title. His teammate, Luke Reicosky
( Hoover) took 3rd in a hard fought battle from freshman Amar Thomas, Mount Saint Joseph
( Fairfield). This is the guy that quit 10 times.

174- nothing to see here until the prodical muscles, Cornell Beachem, Mount Saint Joseph
( Winton Woods) is finish from the football season and having a great year as a catch passing
running back for the lions.

184- Eric Vermillion, Indiana Tech( Mason) had a rough day but still managed to get on the
podium, 6th place.

197- #5. Antonio McCloud, Mount Saint Joseph ( Elder) AA took down the tourney in which no
Lehman, Baldwin Wallace ( Revere) was in attendance; his teammate Doug Byrne ( Wickliffe)
gave McCloud a good contest, losing 8- 6.

285- Cameron Sauerwein, Mount Saint Joseph ( Elder) finished 2nd to a red hot Owen Miller,
Olivet who just beaten #10. Drew Levis, Baldwin Wallace ( Elyria) a few rds earlier. His name
will be in the hat for battle come February.

11/16 Southeast Duals:

#15 Otterbein was 2- 2 at the duals :
Washington & Lee, VA- 25 / Otterbein- 13
Otterbein- 28 / Liberty, VA- 13
Otterbein- 48 / Southern Virginia, VA- 0
Ferrum, VA- 24 / Otterbein- 13
Jackson Lasko ( Central Crossing) took #2@133# Levi Englman, Ferrum to overtime, losing
3- 1.

11/16 Adrian Duals:
Alma, Adrian, Ohio Northern

Adrian went 2- 2; Alma went 2- 2; Ohio Northern went 3- 1

None of the teams went head to head and Central,IA beat everyone. Ohio Northern's Seth
Transue ( Dublin Jerome) and Jordan Hardrick ( Huber Heights Wayne) will be ones to watch in

11/16 CWRU Invite:
CWRU, Defiance, Muskingum, Ohio Wesleyan

This event was managed like a getting some matches in day and all these teams will be at the
NCAA Central Regional Championships so I just sifted for the returning regional placers:
CWRU- 165# Isaac Collier,( St. Ed), 133#Alec Hoover/ Defiance- 125# Rosendo Beltran
( Central Catholic)/ Ohio Wesleyan- 155#Bryce Wittman

11/16 Findlay Open:
Mount Union

At 133# David Massey was the lone ranger ( raider) in this event taking 3rd. He suffered a 3- 2
defeat to Notre Dame's Hunter Bray( Franklin) in the semis. Sidenote- Illinois' Lucas Byrd
( LaSalle) took 1st, turning into a big Byrd.

11/16 NAIA Challenge Duals:
Thomas More, Williams Baptist Univ., Lindsey Wilson, Cumberland (KY)

#7. Cumberland ( KY) upset #3. Marian Univ. 24- 19. Eric Deluse ( Lancaster), #5@197 took
care of business with a pin. His teammates stepped their game up for a pair of upsets at
125( unranked Akins def. #8 Sharp 8- 6) and 165( unranked McNutt md. #5 Johnson 10- 2).
This victory was probably more satisfying than the 41- 6 win over an outman #4. Lindsey

Thomas More rebuilding got a booster shot in upsetting #4. Lindsey Wilson 29- 18. Both teams
had guys missing in action; I have yet to hear of Jimmy Traub for TM.

Williams Baptist Univ. lone Ohioan, #17@285 Devon Amburgy( Lebanon) had a 5- 4 win
against #15@285 Raynel Brown of Lindsey Wilson.

For Lindsey Wilson, #2@149 Latrell Davis( Middletown) and #16@184 Trevor Lawson
( Olentangy Liberty) did compete in limited action with no problems. The team did drop 4
matches and may not stay at #4 with the NBA style load management; not sending a cheap
shot, wrestling is a taxing sport and many guys like Jordan Ward( Moeller) had to utilize this
method after suffering a nasty arm injury his junior year @state. Goals are set in most of these
gladiators rather it maybe to win a match, place in a tourney, or AA. Goals do set up valuable
fundamentals of life lessons such as commitment and dedication.
