Ohio's tournaments...coronavirus may throw a wrench into it

All games should be live streamed starting tonight and that doesn't look to be the case. Hardly any are being streamed. I understand not wanting people to be there but they should be available to watch.

If our public schools aren't closing. If our fans are gathering before, during and after games. And if our state isn't quarantining people to their homes, then shutting down some public events will in no way slow the effects of this virus. Kids will sit next to one another at schools. Adults will sit next to the same people in gymnasiums to watch a stream as they would at the game. People will still walk into Walmart every other day. These measures are purely a "save face" measure by our governor. He isn't being proactive. He is putting on a show. Unfortunately, it is just adding to the already collapsing economy, as it takes away major revenues to major venues.

On the bright side, I was going to refinance my mortgage this week at under 3.00%, but I may just wait another week as the hysteria gets louder. Seriously, refinance mortgage rates are incredibly low right now. I'll be cutting 10 years off the life of my loan and STILL will be paying less per month.

Going to malls - OK
Going to restaurants - OK
Going to public schools - OK
Going to factories to work - OK
Going to basically any job - OK

Going to root on your community at a sporting event - NOT OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just making sure I'm understanding all of this correctly.

Our community is likely setting up a Facebook Live stream for the game. You are not allowed to take photo or video for commercial purposes, but can do so for personal use, which is what we will be doing. No money will be made off of it.

The irony is that - if these measures are successful in slowing the spread of the virus - people will point to the relatively minimal impact on public health as evidence that the measures were pointless.

And if the virus spreads out of control anyway, people will say the measures were pointless and be correct.

Will Spectrum be allowed to attend and stream the State Boys Basketball Tournament?

Like a good capitalist, take advantage and reap benefits bestowed from idiots - based on their panic and fear.

OHSAA should not have overreacted like this. They should've taken a step back and issued a warning instead of telling a whole fanbase to f-off. It's very unprofessional imo. But you can stream the games tn on Chatterbox Sports.

Going to the casino and hitting the same buttons everyone else in there hits all day long - OK

I was curious as to what some of these venues feel about losing the game day crowds. The crowd pic I saw from BGSU last night looked like the place was pretty close to full. I realize the district boards pay for the arena/gym rental but I imagine the groups that profit off of the concessions and parking cannot be pleased.

And the communities that get a percentage of presale ticket money. That is all gone now that refunds are being given and all tickets are sold at the gate.

The OHSAA had no choice. DeWine forced their hand with his directive.

They could not take a chance with the liability potential. It's a smart financial (business) decision. and exactly why the Blue Jackets gave DeWine the middle finger.

The Blue Jackets respond to different stakeholders.

My point is countries all over the world are taking drastic measures in hopes to get ahead of this. The problem with this virus, besides not having a cure/vaccine, is the 14 day incubation period where you show no symptoms but are contagious. What if you found at at this very moment you have the virus. Now think back to everything you've done over the past 2 weeks, places you've gone, people you've interacted with. THAT is the precautions you see are being taken. It's one thing to see someone sick and keep away from them, it's another to be around untold people that are contagious and sick but look and feel perfectly normal. That's an incredibly dangerous situation to the health of the entire public.

If I had the virus I would likely die from it as I would probably high risk.

over the last two weeks I have sat in my living room watching horror movies, sports, and listening to music. I only work with 3 other people so I basically had only come in contact with those 3 and maybe 2 cashiers when I went grocery shopping.

I've done the math and know how quickly this could spread and it is mind boggling.

Gov De Wine says today that no decision has been made to "close schools K-12, but we may get to that point." My son teaches in a large Cincinnati suburb HS and teachers were told to take home all electronics that would be needed for electronic learning and they have a just scheduled staff meeting at 7:15 tomorrow--my guess is Ohio Superintendents have been notified to make preparations for an early Spring Break, maybe beginning after Friday classes. We'll see!!

this thing is getting worse the more Mike and Amy talk. One big giant hypocritical diatribe. It's in a community spread form, even though we can't see it. We knew it was coming. We don't want Ohio to turn into Italy. Don't go out to eat, don't fly. Don't cough on each other. But please do send your kids to school and by all means go see the Blue Jackets, they have great ventilation. It's hard to hear Mike tell us in one breath don't go out to eat and we'll get thru this, and in another breath tell us about the quality of pro sports arena ventilation systems. Healthcare system overload and economic collapse prevention as much or more than spread prevention. Fine, but at least give it to us straight.

I don't think it's a question of " if," but more a question of "when" and " for how long?"

Has their been an announcement yet on spectators at boys state trny next weekend yet. An announcement was to be made today after yesterdays girls final 4 announcement. I havent seen anything new. Or is it staying the same as tonight through end of the Tournament?

The NCAA just came out and said only family and essential personnel at the NCAA tournament.

There's zero chance the OHSAA is allowing spectators at state next week.

Rudy Gobert just tested positive for COVID-19 and the NBA has suspended the season.

No empty arenas. Simply no basketball.
