Ohio State Recruiting

Believe I saw Booker Pickett had 4 sacks in week 1. Kid looks like a Russell Westbrook twitch-caliber athlete coming off the edge.

IMO regardless of ranking, he might be as good of a pass rush specialist as anyone in this class. Seems like an ideal Jack candidate as at his current size, but looking at the big dudes in his family you'd think he'd grow into more of a hand in the dirt DE over the next few years.

Biggest defensive target left on the board now IMO.

I don’t expect him to be a Buckeye. His uncle may have played for OSU but his Dad played for Miami.

Posters that were upset about CJ Stroud not running the football are not going to be thrilled with St. Clair. Watched Bellefontaine game vs Coldwater not overly elusive and doesn't run with a lot of authority.

Staff handed out their 10th in state offer to 2025 DL from Cleveland Heights, Brandon Ceasar. Holds offers from all the upper tier Big 10 schools as well as Alabama, USC and UTenn. Currently ranked a 3 star, seems like his offer list is better than his ranking even if some aren’t committable.

Guessing he will be elevated to a 4 star now.

OSU trying to get in with linebacker Nicholas Rodriguez and defensive end Eric Mensah. These are not the types of players OSU should be recruiting if they want an elite defense but they've swung and missed hard at the LB and DE the last 2 classes.

Mensah commits. Kind of head scratching. Only a handful of P5 offers, OSU being is best by a mile. I get wanting depth guys who will be there 4, 5 years and can contribute as role players in their later years but just seems odd. Why not go after the NEO kid committed to Washington? I understand not going after the Cincy kid who moved to FL and committed to Miami, he’s lighted than some of the WRs OSU recruits. But as a 290lb DE as a senior, he’ll surely move inside. Brian Robinson or the kid committed to Washington are likely big enough to kick inside at the next level or kept chasing the Arkansas DL.

Want to know why the offensive line sucks? When you swing and miss at so many recruits and end up with average 3 star players like Josh Fryar at OT and Josh Simmons on the other side. That’s what Mensah is here, in a year or 2 people are going to wonder why our edge play is so bad. THIS is why.

There's zero chance Mensah plays on the edge. Big kid with a big frame. He needs some Micky Marotti weight room treatment for 2-3 years to convert some weight, but I'd be surprised if he isn't eventually 300-310 pounds, if not heavier. He's already massive.

Moves well (probably above average for size, but not elite). I'd view this is as a swing at a Dawand Jones-esque interior DL recruit. The board has thinned out and they're trying to swing for the fences on the potential physical upside of a lower ranked kid.

Went and watched Bellefontaine last night...St. Clair went 22-28 passing for about 220 and 2 TDs, and ran a few times for about 40 yards and another pair of TDs.

For being D3, his team has some nice skill position pieces (probably an FCS/D2 RB, a D2 WR and a D3 WR), but the OL is at best, very average and not very good against legitimate pass rushers. Most passes were either quick hitch or out patterns to the wide side of the field or they'd roll him out to the wide side with leveled passing options. My sight line was bad, but early on he housed one of those designed roll outs for about a 30 yard rushing TD.

Kid has a live arm for his age. Ball gets out of his hands quick on the quick developing routes and on a tight rope. I would say he is legitimately 6'4 (with shoes/cleats) and 215-220 with a frame that looks like he could comfortably add another 20 pounds (I.e. probably a 6'4 235+ pound college player). Good mobility and nice athleticism even if he doesn't run much (which he shouldn't be with his arm and the skill guys his team has, especially the RB).

He needs to transfer to a D1 school this offseason similar to what SWD did before his senior season this year. Would give him much preparation for college.

Why’s he need to transfer when he is already committed?
FWIW, SWD announced a transfer to Pick North about 2 months after committing. As for the why: better competition. In SWD case, closer to the staff for extra coaching. In St Clair’s case, would be good to easily get to campus on a weekend to recruit if he made a similar move to a Pick North or similar Cbus suburb. It’s not far now, probably an hour, but being closer makes it easier. I’d think he’s probably fine though.

That is the biggest reason to me. Second biggest reason being I'm pretty sure a premium D1 program/coach made a run at him this spring/summer and he didn't jump.

If he and/or his family didn't want him at say, Springfield, this year, I don't know why they'd jump to there or a Dublin or a Pickerington school next year.

Wouldn't mind seeing the wagons circled back around on Reggie Powers. Early season highlights look good; good twitch and has laid a few massive hits.

Recently got offered by UCLA and got a massive bump in the On3 rankings to borderline top-200 nationally.

I’ll add that in SWD’s case his workload is also greatly reduced at PN.

Kid is back on the market with a de-commitment from Michigan State.

Besides the UCLA offer, he has also now picked up an Oklahoma offer.

Really don't want to be circling back around for plan C kids. I would rather try and flip Brauntae Johnson from ND. OSU already gets the best players in Indiana so put the pressure on him to play with the home state kids.
