OHIO-Federal League Update - July 15th deadline

Getting additional people to attend our games is very important to Massillon football. Playing 3,4 or 5 Stark teams will accomplish that goal.
It's a question of two games vs. one. Does one game with GlenOak outdraw two with Buchtel? Which scenario sells more concessions for the band? Which scenario sells more 50-50 tickets for the BC?

And who do you think teams 4 and 5 will be? Tuslaw? East Canton? Central? You know damn well who it won't be: Jackson, Hoover, and Lake. So, tell us which other Stark schools are going to step up to the plate and bring these big crowds that are so "important".

Also, everyone should remember that elected and appointed officials from these school districts come and go. Eventually, cooler heads will prevail.
When? All of these districts have changed Supers, AD's, BOE's, etc. The names are all that has changed.

Just curious, who would be your ideal team that you would replace us with ?
Wouldn't really matter; it could be almost anyone. We get 11,000 fans in PBTS every two years from playing GlenOak. We average 8,000 per game. Two games vs. one. Do the math.

If GlenOak were that opposed to this, they could vote accordingly. You'd rather have Massillon than Green or Wadsworth? Vote that way. Same with Perry. Which team is easier and more profitable for them? If Perry votes their interest and GlenOak votes their preference, this Green/Wadsworth deal gets stopped in its tracks.

So... why don't they vote like that?

Just curious, who would be your ideal team that you would replace us with ?
Massillon (without the Fed) has the outside shot of the AAC.
There will be a similar schedule for the Tigers in future years comparable to Steubenville's if you believe OF in him wanting to drop Perry and GlenOak over Green and Wadsworth going into the Fed and that has yet to be proven.
Who would be left to replace those TWO teams? (What if all these new conference talks align every team in NE Ohio weeks 4-10?)
Who will Massillon get to play them? The big boys in Division I, that's who.
Lake and Louisville will come a-calling when they are good and ready, but if it's the Tigers in the way out of the region, the same logic Massillon applied to playing Iggy and St. Ed when in Div. I will ring true for those in Div. II...why play 'em in the regular season when you will need to only beat them once when it really counts in the playoffs.
Reap what you sow?

One likely consequence if the Fed adds Green and Wadsworth: Massillon drops Perry and GlenOak from the football schedule.

Consequence for who? Certainly not Perry and GlenOak....

Their chances of beating Green and Wadsworth are better than beating Massillon most years (i.e. more Harbin points because you don't get any when you lose).

Their stadiums have limited capacity....Green and Wadsworth are close enough and have a good enough fan base that they'd come close to providing a sell out (i.e. not a huge loss in revenue). Especially when you factor in the revenue that comes from the other league games (i.e. it's not going to be a significant loss).

On the other hand, it leaves Massillon in a situation where they have to find two more opponents to fill their schedule. Oh Canada!

My personal belief is that Massillon should be in the Fed. That said, to suggest that Perry and GlenOak would be hurt by the addition of Green and Wadsworth to the fed, rather than Massillon, is nonsense.

While you're thinking about that let me remind you that we're Harbin heavy, we're right around the corner, people will pack your stadium on a Thursday night to see you play us, and you think you're better than us so you should have AT LEAST a 50% chance to beat us, .

One likely consequence if the Fed adds Green and Wadsworth: Massillon drops Perry and GlenOak from the football schedule. There's no longer any reason for Massillon to demonstrate good faith and play in their stadiums, and -- more importantly -- Massillon can draw more fans and make more money from two home games than from a home-and-home.

If it's all about looking out for number one, then the view just changed.

Man you'd really show them now wouldn't you? You guys could schedule another two Canadian teams and they'd have to schedule some terrible program, dang please don't do that oh clueless fool!

Consequence for who? Certainly not Perry and GlenOak....
Yeah, because a home-and-home against Copley is just as good as playing Massillon...

On the other hand, it leaves Massillon in a situation where they have to find two more opponents to fill their schedule. Oh Canada!
Don't be stupid. Massillon plays Perry and GlenOak in weeks one and two. Opponents abound in those weeks.

...to suggest that Perry and GlenOak would be hurt by the addition of Green and Wadsworth to the fed, rather than Massillon, is nonsense.
Don't be stupid again. If the choice for Perry is between Massillon and Green, all or nothing, which one benefits them more? Which one will sell more tickets? Which one will generate more interest?

Yeah, because a home-and-home against Copley is just as good as playing Massillon...

They are going to get Green AND Massillon though. Massillon isn't giving up Perry and Glen Oak games and you know that. Massillon needs these types of games as an Indy. The same way Mentor would need a Solon game if they go Indy in the future.

If the FED added Green and Wadsworth it would only help those schools involved. I wish Massillon would get in too but the FED isn't hurt badly if they don't.

It is obvious that you want Massillon in the FED though. Sucks they can't get in.

Or what?

Is a home-and-home with Perry better than the same deal with Maumee or Stow? Sure. Is it better than two home games against someone else? Maybe not.

It is obvious that you want Massillon in the FED though.
Not really. It's clear that Fed membership would benefit sports other than football, mainly because it would make scheduling easier. It's not clear that it's an inarguable benefit to the football program. And frankly, giving the AD less work to do is a pretty flimsy justification.

I would think in this situation it would benefit Perry. Add Wadsworth and the gate for all the non revenue sports increases and nice crowds for football.

Also how many Perry boys will transfer to Massillon in the future to play 9 Canadian teams and McKinley.

Massillon needs a league more than any league needs Massillon. If NE Ohio aligns and the Tigers are left out it could lead to the demise of Massillon football.

Are you seriously talking about ticket sales to an XC meet as a factor in league affiliation?

A lot. The same as now.

Put down the bong.

Yes and Baseball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Softball, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Swimming, Boys Tennis, Girls Tennis, Track, Volleyball, Wrestling etc, they could easily draw 250 more on average to off set the football game. Ready made schedules Middle School up, very nice situation.

A lot. The same as now.

Time would tell, if Stow and others align why would they play Massillon? It would get a lot harder to schedule.

Put down the bong.

It is good stuff I'll share. 8000 people on a Friday night living in a dream world and watching Canadian Football.

F Stark County football. Your only concern should be Massillon football.

And again. If some of those folks were that "concerned", they might be acting a bit differently.

It isn't about what's best for Stark County -- it's about what's best for Massillon. And if things shake out the way they may, there is no upside for Massillon to extend any favors to any other school in the county. Playing Perry -- particularly at Perry -- is a sop to the Panthers. For what?
for once I agree with oil filter, drop every team in the fed except McKinley of course, and put the billboard back up.

250 more? They may not get 250 total for all those combined. And you think that Green and Wadsworth will collectively bring thousands of paying customers to watch those matches?

I apparently mistook your crack pipe for a bong.

As opposed to all of Perry on a November night watching other teams play football.

That will show 'em....although i believe it will be GO and Perry dropping the DII program for a DI harbin cow...

yeah.... that'll be the reason. Isn't the fed the same league where half the teams schudule little ole CCC?

According to the OHSAA schedule website, the Tigers and Panthers are scheduled through August, 2015.

Yeah, because a home-and-home against Copley is just as good as playing Massillon...

You're assuming that a home and home is necessary. No reason why they couldn't do what Massillon and McKinley frequently do and schedule just a home.

Don't be stupid. Massillon plays Perry and GlenOak in weeks one and two. Opponents abound in those weeks.

Yeah, but will they provide the same gate sales that GlenOak and Perry would? Regardless, having to find 10 opponents is harder than having to find eight.

Don't be stupid again. If the choice for Perry is between Massillon and Green, all or nothing, which one benefits them more? Which one will sell more tickets? Which one will generate more interest?

Just how many times has Massillon played Perry in it's school history? I'm guessing that Perry hasn't worried about whether another opponent will provide the gate sales that Massillon would. By the way, the choice wouldn't be between Massillon and Green, it would be between Massillon and whatever non-league team that they would want to schedule.

Oil Filter has it right in terms of what Massillon should do with their schedule....why have home and home contracts with other area teams when the booster club can fit the bill to have these out of state or country cupcake teams come down to Massillon and generate ticket sales.

The ticket sales prove that the Massillon faithful will come out in droves to see their mighty Tigers get an easy win. Just this last year proves that the Massillon folk are fair weather fans. What has more interest in Tigertown, seeing a 2 win Firestone team come to town or a state championship St V team come to town?

The Tiger faithful are complete frontrunner's and their ticket sales of certain teams reflect that! Hello team Akron City, Canada and DC.

Yadda yadda whatever. Congratulations Canton McKinley Bulldogs for adding Green and Wadsworth. What a sad spectacle.

I do disagree with OF on dropping anybody. GO, Perry, and Hoover are the ONLY teams worth playing. We all know Hoover is candy so just continue w/ GO and Perry for as long as that lasts and call it a day. The current schedule is way better than anything the FUD offers if this holds true. And Wakefield isn't dropping anybody. That old fossil is just cashing in awhile longer and will pull a McDaniels at any moment. Just watch something will pizz him off. Besides he was the best recruiter Massillon ever had anyhow. :D

That's certainly right. No one will ever argue that adding the likes of Jackson and Green makes your schedule stronger.

And Wakefield isn't dropping anybody. That old fossil is just cashing in awhile longer and will pull a McDaniels at any moment. Just watch something will pizz him off. Besides he was the best recruiter Massillon ever had anyhow.
There is that.

Getting drilled every year might be the best recruiting tool Massillon has. Hoover can always delude themselves that they coulda, woulda; Perry won't have that luxury. They will know that winning means leaving. And leave they will. Between Wakefield's abrasive petulance and the annual butt-whuppin's, SARTA might need to use a bigger bus down Lincoln Way.

Ahh, the fun of it all...

past[ past, pahst ]
adjective
1. gone by or elapsed in time: It was a bad time, but it's all past now.
2. of, having existed in, or having occurred during a time previous to the present; bygone: the past glories of the Incas.
3. gone by just before the present time; just passed: during the past year.

and what quality program is going to agree to come to Massillon with no return trip from the Tigers? most strong programs expect a home and home...so your either looking at longer travel (which increases expenses while lowering revenue) or playing City Series, DC or Canada which doesn't exactly rake in the money (especially with the payout those teams take)

way to look out for number one

you're doing Perry a favor by letting them help you fill an open date with a local opponent? im sure they all feel honored at the privilege of being on the mighty Tigers schedule
