Northwest Ohio Realignment

Aren't both of them in a better situation now?
I don’t think many from Elmwood have embraced the BVC move. It wasn’t close to unanimous at the time. I believe it was a 3-2 BOE vote. And are they really going to find rivalries with Riverdale, Ada and Pandora?

Fostoria isn’t getting any bigger and has had very little success in the NBC. They probably fit in better with the SBC group from a football sense.

I thought for sure you’re going to say Liberty Benton and Port Clinton.
Port Clinton is looking for a new Athletic Director. I believe this change is what drove them to stay put, not a good time to switch leagues

I don’t think they’re in a bad spot at the moment. How long are they going to accept being a doormat though? Elmwood went 0-10 last year and Fostoria has struggled ever since joining the NBC. With Maumee getting its ducks in a row the league is only getting stronger across the board

Fostoria schedules Arcadia in sports. That’s all that needs to be said.

I would argue Elmwood is in the better of the two. As to Fostoria.....they could be looking potentially.....
The NBC has a pretty good stable of schools. Fostoria isn’t going to be able to be successful in the NBC as a whole. Nothing about their situation gets any better with time. BUT, a switch to a situation where they could have some success consistently could be a huge community boost. They schedule the smaller county schools in sports as it is. They’d be a stones throw away from many of the schools in the SBC.

I’m not sure who the 10th member would be. It’s not like schools have been off limits from inquiring until this annoucement. North Baltimore is the geographical choice but that’s already failed.

Makes me wonder if they think any other NWC school will bite. I still can see Arcadia leaving for the NWCC and them staying at 8. Unless someone like Elmwood leaves for the remainder of the SBC River schools which isn't impossible IMO

I would think Hardin Northern is happy and well suited for the NWCC but they were members for like 50 years so I suppose there could be some interest there.

Allen East is the only NWC school that I can see considering it, and I think they would be stupid to leave Grove and Bluffton. Maybe hoping to capitalize on Fostoria or the SBC shakeup?

Fostoria is better suited for what’s left of the SBC. And honestly so is Elmwood as I’ve said before. A lot of Elmwood’ers would agree.

The BVC hasn’t made the best decisions over the years with the league. They got lucky Leipsic wanted back in and Ada followed. It’s a big geographic footprint. All sports would have an odd number of teams at 11. Tons of turnover the last 10 years with some controversy.

It's a pretty compact footprint. The longest drive is 45 mins, most conferences would be thrilled with that.
After what looked like implosion not long ago, the BVC has done well molding itself. Getting rid of LB and Vanlue football. If they can find one more good fit they could be pretty stable. Outside of football odd or even really doesn't matter.
I can't see a reason Elmwood would want to drive further to be in a less stable conference with less stable schools.

Luck had nothing to do with it. Leipsic left due to LB. Basically, forced league to realize LB needed to go. LB out and Leipsic just magically rejoined. THE TRUE STORY!

The only reason I can think of is because they have some history with some of said schools. They were in the Suburban lakes league with a few of them
Correct. Those guys were together a long time and unfortunately the schools around Toledo got bigger and the ones in the sticks got smaller and forced their hand. Elmwood has their pick of the litter here and I wouldn't be shocked if they joined back up in the SBC with Gibsonburg, Lakota, and Woodmore.

Seems like a risky move for the reason CometGetIt said:

I guess the reason why I like it is cause the old SLL schools were together for a long time and only left cause the numbers got skewed the wrong way. Otherwise, with you for the most part that the BVC doesn't really have a stick of dynamite and they're similarly sized as Van Buren and such.

Definitely a compact footprint. 5/9 in one county, the outliers are JUST outside. Not many cam say the OUTLIERS are close.

It is a little bit of a drive, but I could see Crestline applying to join. They are right on US 30, a similar size the schools, have played a few in the recent past, and are desperate to get into a conference(especially for football.
The 10th spot they vacated in the NWCC is still available

Yeah, I know. They had something like four ADs in five years and a new principal almost every other year for a while. It has been tough sledding. Two years ago they had to play all their home football games on Saturday because the previous AD didn't schedule officials and the person that they hired did not look until summer to find out he didn't have officials. They would fit in with the BVC in terms of size.
