Northwest Conference 2020

Thats what I was thinking. I knew of him at WT and knew he was liked. Not sure of the issue at Elida
Pre-Elida I could see Speller being a long term fit at Ada, but unfortunately after the way his tenure at Elida ended, whether right or wrong, I can't see him being hired as a head coach anywhere in the area anytime soon.

My understanding is Bluffton is planning on playing. So it would be Bluffton vs. Jefferson. The winner would play Paulding the following week. Loser would have to find an opponent to replace Ada or just take a bye week.

Loser could play Hicksville if they want a game.

Hopefully the NWC is more sympathetic towards Ada than the BVC was to Hardin Northern when they were given the boot for canceling their season. This is an unusual year.

Question for the NWC folks as I'm fuzzy on the details. When USV left, were they booted for not fielding football, or did they leave on their own?

If not mistaken, USV went to JV schedule, but NWC said no. I hope like hell, the same scenario doesn't come to fruition to Ada as well. Ada has had a pretty strong presence in the NWC for many many years in basketball and football along with a lot of other sports (boys & girls)

USV canceled their season during the week they were to play Delphos Jefferson. They had 14 players with several freshman that would have been forced to start. The NWC did not move to vote USV out right away being that they were a founding member and comparative in other sports. USV was required to play 2 years at JV schedule rebuild the program then petitioned to return to league play. The league voted to kick USV out. It is my understanding that Ada was the only school that did NOT vote to remove USV.

Four teams remain:

Allen East vs. Spencerville
Columbus Grove vs. Crestview

Taking Allen East in a close one.

On the other side of the bracket, I think it's Grove and unfortunately for Crestview, I don't think it's close. I see the Knights defense having a hard time stopping Reynolds and Clement.

Rematches for everyone next week!

Grove over Crestview - Dogs just have more talent and depth
Spencerville over Allen East (barely) - Allen East is the more explosive team but this game will come down to who can stop the other's offense
Bluffton over Delphos - toss up, both are very young
Just for fun, Edgerton over Paulding

Grove will beat my Knights. Its their year to represent the NWC
Allen East nips Spencerville at Home. Complete toss up as Spencerville typically gets stronger as the season progresses.
Bluffton over Jefferson in a shootout.

Paulding, the NWC will see you next week
Ada with kids at home regretting they quit on their school.

Allen East vs. Spencerville
Columbus Grove vs. Crestview
Bluffton over Paulding
CK, I dont think the kids that quit regret it.

Grove
Bluffton in a match of bad defenses.
AE and Spencerville, hm-m-m. Hard to see Spencerville throwing more than a couple of times unless they're behind early. I'll take Spencerville because they can get a few stops.

I vividly remember that. USV was one of, if not the worst team in the state at that time. Jefferson and the crowd, and even the few USV fans and band were in the stands. Jefferson was doing on field warmups, then they were all notified that USV never left to come to Delphos because they didn’t have numbers lol. Really weird that nobody notified anybody.

Allen East proving me wrong this season. Shutting down Spencerville’s running game is a pretty impressive feat.

Agreed. I thought that Coach Sommers' experience in the conference would prove to be the difference. My hat is off to AE.

I was also proved wrong last night. Got to watch the Crestview vs Columbus Grove game and was totally surprised with how well Crestview played. Crestview struggled to stop Reynolds and Clement like I thought they would, but I was impressed with how physical Crestview was, on both sides of the ball. Brecht and Geradot were able to pick up way more yards then I expected. A bad snap at the end kind of took the air out of their sails, but they definitely held their own against one of, if not the best team in the NWC.

On a side note, I had discussed freshman in the conference in an earlier post. Crestview has a WR, I believe #2 that plays quite a bit and looks like he could end up being a very good player in the future. He had some key blocks and a nice catch during one of their drives last night. Cknights, was this one of the kids you mentioned?

Brody Brecht is a stud.. That kid made the Grove defense look bad all night, and gave them literally everything they could handle without costing them the game. Grove and Allen East next week will be another good game, I think the outcome depends on which Grove D shows up. Week 3 Allen East threw everything they had at them and only put up 21 but last night they didn't look anything like the same D. We'll see, but I'm still picking my Dogs to win again.

They wear different JV and Varsity numbers, but I believe you are referring to Jeret Harting. He is a freshman and is a real nice player. Between him, Putman, Kline, and Jones, there is a ton of skill in that freshman class.

It was a great game. I thought the momentum swing with the TD mid 4th quarter was going to carry Crestview to the victory. But Grove had the answer. Seniors do what seniors do. Hats off to Grove for having a very fine ballclub.

Columbus Grove - Bye
Allen East - Bye
Spencerville vs. Leipsic
Bluffton vs. Mt Blanchard Riverdale
Paulding vs. Van Buren
Jefferson vs. Minster
Crestview
vs. North Baltimore

What's everyone else's thoughts as we go to week 1 of the playoffs?

Riverdale - close one
Paulding - Close one
Minster - Blowout
Crestview - Blowout

I alson think Grove is poised to make some noise, Allen East could be an upset specialist in that region, and Spencerville will get round three with Crestview after they both advance that far.

Don't be fooled by their records, Riverdale, Van Buren, North Baltimore, and Arcadia should be thanking DeWine for their best seasons in a while. Van Buren somehow got away with not playing a single team out of Liberty-Benton, McComb, Arlington, Leipsic, or Pandora-Gilboa. Riverdale only played Leipsic and got smacked, and North Baltimore only played Arlington and got absolutely blown out.

Van Buren got a thank you from the BVC for playing LCC week one.

So who will go the farthest? Did Spencerville go vanilla vs Crestview in Rd 2 to save it for a likely rd 3? Will that winner make some noise? Will Grove have enough to make a decent run or will they play like they did against Crestview and Allen East? Will Allen East make a nice run with their passing game or will they not be able to close out?

I believe Crestview will make it to the regional semis before getting defeated by LCC (and beating Spencerville along the way).

Grove has a legit shot at state semis. Colonel Crawford is a force. It may be a big obstacle.

Allen East will make some noise and get bounced by Mechanicsburg in the regional semis.
