Anyone know how this is going to work?

Is the district separating them or are the coaches picking their sectional in seeding order?

It looks like teams will be seeded and teams will choose their sectional in seed order. I think it'll be similar to how Basketball and Hockey do theirs.

D1 - Four sectionals feed to North Canton. All schools feeding to North Canton were determined by the district board (geography), they will get to choose one of four sectionals: Brecksville, Wadsworth, Austintown Fitch, or Euclid. Host schools are locked into their sectional. The other three sectionals will feed to the Perrysburg district - the Midview sectional will have its schools pre-assigned (mixed NE/NW), while St. Edward and Strongsville will host sectionals with about 16 teams getting to pick between the two.

D2 - Three sectionals are in a pod, those at Lake Catholic, Painesville Harvey, and Beachwood (either 9 or 10 schools in each sectional). The Beachwood sectional will feed to the Norwalk district, while the other two sectionals will feed to Alliance. As a result, Lake Catholic is "stuck" at Alliance; the most notable teams getting to "pick" are Aurora, Buckeye, and SVSM. The remaining two sectionals are in a pod, CF Northwest and West Branch will host (Louisville is among the teams there).

D3 - There are two pods, each containing two sectionals. Berkshire and Independence will host the "north", while Rootstown and West Salem Northwestern have the "south". Teams are assigned one of the two pods, but all feed to Garfield Hts for district competition.

Thank you that explains a lot.

CoachMorgan:

I presume it's going to be like how the team sports were done in the fall (i.e. soccer and volleyball). Teams will be ranked by coaches' vote, and then there will be a "draft", and schools will get to pick their sectional by rank order.

Teams will post information about their squad by a certain date, coaches will rank the teams by another date based on what is submitted. The ranking order will then get posted, and then there will be a meeting (probably online conference call) where coaches will pick their sectional.

In terms of the assignment meeting "mattering", it is most impactful for D2 north, as there is a choice of district tournament (state qualifier) involved. Otherwise the choices are less critical in nature.

Bucksman,
You mention Aurora, Buckeye, and SVSM as the notable teams that will be able to pick their sectional and therefore district. Do you anticipate each team with the luxury to pick the beachwood sectional to do so?

I would guess that the strongest of three sectionals in the D2 north pod will be the one at Beachwood, based on the perceived strength of the Alliance and Norwalk districts. However, I would caution if too many teams in D2 north jump into Beachwood it creates a cannibal effect ("good" kids not qualifying to districts, potential state qualifiers entering the district tournament with a "bad" line, etc.)

Based on the BoroFan rankings, here is how D2 splits out between Norwalk and Alliance in terms of the top 16. NOTE - present rankings with lots of room for change -- especially in weights during a season where there's little for high leverage competition, and also possible movement based on district compositions.

Just looking at the NEDAB sectionals and district composition. Just wondering, has the Alliance District been changed to Perry this year?

That's what it looks like. Alliance must have declined the district, and Perry (Lake County) is going to host. Perry has a main gym that can hold two mats and a fieldhouse pretty close by that can hold more than that; I'm not sure how that district is going to run structurally, but with the split sessions and limited attendance it will work out. They've had regional duals the last couple of years there.
