NFL Draftees from Ohio

I don’t care where the Buckeyes get the players. The fact they get very few starters from Ohio illustrates the slide in top level football talent produced in Ohio anymore, though.
Ohio had the third most players playing in the College playoffs last year, behind Texas and Pennsylvania and ahead of all the southern states and California. So are those Ohio kids playing at the top schools in the country not talented?

How many OSU starters were from Ohio? A ton of Ohio walk ons inflated the numbers.

I do wonder if they count kids from prep schools as from the state of the prep school or the home state. Wrestling it happens all the time and it really frustrates me KNOWING people who play in their home state until their last season, transfer to some huge prep program, and it count toward their state total, not the home state. Wrestlings its biggest in NJ, but football easily is inflated by FL, TX, and CA. Example #1 Chris Henry Jr, he played at Withrow, transferred to Mater Dei and will forever be counted as a CA number (I understand this probably isn’t the best example since he HAD to move, and just wanted to play the best)
Yes if you transfer to a prep school or in general transfer. Most recent example I can think of is JJ McCarthy. Originally from Illinois he went to IMG Academy and he gets thrown in as a FL player

OSU has about 124 kids on their roster 12 or so are walk-ons. I counted 49 kids from Ohio on this past year's team That's about 40% of the roster counting the walk-ons. Take out the walk-ons its about 30% of the roster. Going by the list linked below I counted five starters from Ohio. So 5 of the 22 starters were from Ohio about 22%. That does not count special teams and guys with significant playing time that do not start.

That’s not too bad.

D1 Colleges are allowed to have 85 scholarship football players.

D1AA has 67 scholarship players.

Yeah, we're on our way back to that, but it was skewed and had a higher amount of scholarships the last few years because of the covid year and extra eligibility. They're now trying to limit roster sizes back to 105.

Isn’t that 105 for both scholarship & walk on’s?

It is, but since 2021 85 and 105 have both been inflated because of these kids getting 6th and 7th years from covid and other things. Seems like they're trying to reign it in again.

I’m sure the NCAA makes exceptions on a case by case basis for teams so those players do not count against their scholarship numbers. Of the 125 guys on last years OSU roster, I’d guess at least 25 of them are walk on’s. I cannot think of 15 guys who were 5th & 6th year players.

I think they had some 5th and 6th year transfers not many. The kid from OU comes to mind he was like a 5th year guy,

The OU TE transfer played 2 years at OU. I believe he was a true junior last year.
Here is a pretty good breakdown of the players including 5th and 6th year guys said they had 3 5th year guys 0 6th year guys

I'm just saying the 85 and 105 rule hasn't been enforced for the last few years because of the covid rules, whether OSU had many 6th year players or not. I'm a Notre Dame fan, and I know they were talking about having to cut players if they went back to the 85/105 thing this year.

Yes. in 2021 they didn’t count the COVID super seniors which led to over 85 scholarship players/105 total players for the one year. But the NCAA put in a rule that went into effect in 2022 that capped it at 85 scholarships/105 roster even with COVID super seniors. So if you had a 5th year player use his COVID year in 2023, you didn’t get 86 scholarships. I’m not going through every roster from 2022 through this past season but I’d be shocked if there were multiple instances of 85+scholarships and 105+rosters without serious extenuating circumstances.

That cap is upped as of 6/1 or 7/1 - whenever the NCAA calendar starts.

Mixed and matched some of the rules here - roster limit was 85 scholarships and 125 total. Going forward it will be 105 total and teams can go up to 105 scholarships.

That said, ND never had more than 85 scholarship players. This season they had 85 exactly. Below is the scholarship grid for the 2024-25 season. It does list 86 players but it includes Tyson Ford who medically retired.

They had 83 in 2023 until lacrosse scholarship Jordan Faison suited up mid season against Louisville, that bumped them to 84

84 in 2022 as well.

I'm just saying the 85 and 105 rule hasn't been enforced for the last few years because of the covid rules,
I’d love to know which schools had more than 85 scholarship players on roster the last 4 years. Could you list them? Or at least mention how many went over that 85 limit?

Michigan had 96 in 2023 for one.
They most certainly did not lol. They utilized NIL in lieu of scholarships for a lot of their grad transfers that year, it was well documented. Here’s a Michigan beat writer saying it.

can only come up with one (incorrect) example that was entirely too easy to debunk. Yeesh.

The court case has yet to be settled. If the NCAA can't find a way to keep all currently rostered athletes, the settlement would be denied approval per the judge last week.

You're wrong you ing douche.

Great retort filled with evidence backing your claim!

No need to get emotional or personal just because you were wrong about scholarship numbers enforcement.
Sure thing clown. Like it taking it personally to go through all of my old posts like the little bitch you are. Enjoy being a clown, I'll be placing you on ignore.

Ah another post filled with emotional overreaction and no evidence backing your claim, all because you were wrong. Threw some insecurity projection in as well, nice!

If you can’t provide any real evidence Michigan went over 85 scholarships in 2023, maybe you can list 1 other team that went over ( and maybe provide some actual evidence this time, your call tho!)?
