Congratulations to all athletes, families, and programs, make Ohio proud!

12 of the 14 Buckeyes drafted were from out of state and only seven Ohio players drafted overall. The slide as a top talent producer continues.
Read where, not a single player was drafted from the WPIAL this year, 1st time since 1993. Talent is down south and out west, has the talent "drain" bottomed in Ohio and Penn. or does it slide even further.

The state is getting old. Same with PA. Columbus and Cincy are growing, though some of the Cincy growth is in Kentucky. Northern Ohio needs to grow. It’s been stagnant for a long time.

And you can’t stop young, skilled Ohio grads from moving to Charlotte, ATL, DC, Florida, Nashville, Texas, Phoenix, Vegas, Cali, etc.
Valid. I’m around the Akron area. Steady decline for sure.

I'll have a meat lovers with mushrooms, thin crust, garlic butter instead of sauce, please. Extra tip if you pick me up a cherry milkshake from the UDF next door. Thanks!
Man that sounds good, but my chest is hurting just reading this!

Here's the 247sports recruiting rankings for the Ohio HS drafted players:

Harold Fannin BGSU 2022 OH Ranking #Unranked
Kaleb Johnson Iowa 2022 OH Ranking #18
Jack Sawyer OSU 2021 OH Ranking #1 US #6
Ty Hamilton OSU 2020 OH Ranking #29
Mitchell Evans ND 2021OH Ranking #20
Branson Taylor Pitt 2020 OH Ranking #7
Luke Lachey Iowa 2020 OH Ranking #3 US #127

Interesting that none of these guys transferred.

You must still be enjoying the product on the field or else you wouldn't be going to the games. So the slide you are referencing is a moot point unless you hang your hat on how many kids from your state get drafted.

I do love going to high school and Buckeyes games, but the top end talent is not what it once was in Ohio. The quality of play and coaching at the high school level is as good as it gets. We just don’t produce as many high level talents as we did when OSU’s roster, as well as Michigan’s, was mostly Ohio kids and there were still tons more at other colleges throughout the nation.

As a buckeyes fan I would take a national championship with all the starters from from every state except Ohio any day. The pride is in the Buckeye uniform not the hometown or home state.

I don’t care where the Buckeyes get the players. The fact they get very few starters from Ohio illustrates the slide in top level football talent produced in Ohio anymore, though.

I do wonder if they count kids from prep schools as from the state of the prep school or the home state. Wrestling it happens all the time and it really frustrates me KNOWING people who play in their home state until their last season, transfer to some huge prep program, and it count toward their state total, not the home state. Wrestlings its biggest in NJ, but football easily is inflated by FL, TX, and CA. Example #1 Chris Henry Jr, he played at Withrow, transferred to Mater Dei and will forever be counted as a CA number (I understand this probably isn’t the best example since he HAD to move, and just wanted to play the best)
