New League: Ohio Catholic Athletic Conference

I love it. I am surprised Benedictine isn't in the mix....maybe because they are single sex?

From the Columbus posters - any speculation on why St. Charles is not in the conference?

What are the odds of more teams getting in? Maybe the conference splits into 2 divisions and winners of each face off for the title?
Hoban and Benedictine seem like they’d be good fits
5 teams in a division could be wonky but you could smooth it out with making teams play 1 cross over game.

Playing the cousin schools of northeast Ohio, with similar philosophies and traditions bound to the soul, is a good thing for the CCL.

Modeling it in the form of a conference with commitments to travel over the course of multiple seasons, and sustaining support for it over time, will be difficult.

I know there is a spot open in the Ohio Capital Conference - Capital Division... maybe they are going there or the Central Buckeye Conference?

I could see this possibly expanding before 2026. Benedictine would be a good fit. Two divisions could also be a possibility if Hoban joins. It would be like the old North Coast League in that respect.

All these teams have won OHSAA State Championships in Football.

Here are their regions for 2024:
D2 Region 5 Walsh Jesuit and St Vincent St Mary
D2 Region 7 Col St Francis De Sales
D3 Region 9 Villa Angela St Joseph and Ursuline
D3 Region 11 Bishop Watterson and Bishop Hartley
D4 Region 13 Cardinal Mooney

I'm surprised about Bene too, but not Hoban. With the announcement of their recruiters now becoming NIL agents, it seems like Hoban is focused more on playing a national schedule and continuing the academy route and not a typical high school.

The bigger question to me is why has Bene now been left out of two Catholic conferences?

My guess would be that Hoban wouldn't want to lock themselves into playing those 8 teams every year. I think Tyrell likes playing some of the best teams in the state. I think he believes those teams make his team better than being in a league. Again, just a guess from me.
Yep. And, like I said in another string on this subject, with the Hoban recruiters now part of an NIL agency that's run by a Hoban guy, they have to be focused on playing a more interstate schedule. I think this league has a lot of like-minded schools that want great competition, but don't aspire to become an Academy.

Brad Bournival from the ABJ reported that this conference will involve all sports starting the Fall of 2027.

These 8 schools have won a total of 29 OHSAA State Championships in Football and 180 OHSAA Team State Championships overall.

The article talks about co-ed schools.

All sports is a solid concept if the idea is you’re doing volleyball quads, Friday-Saturday (Sunday?) weekend tournaments for hoops, baseball tri’s etc to satisfy the intent.

If it’s straight up home-and-homes though, then lololololol

It was announced today that a new conference will start play in 2026. Teams include:

Ursuline
Mooney
VASJ
Walsh Jesuit
SVSM
Watterson
Hartley
St Francis Desales

Lots of travel but a monster conference.
Is there a link/article you can share?

What is the Hoban NIL announcement? I missed that.
