The Ohio Department of Natural Resources celebrated the opening of a new glass walkway at Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, adding a unique feature to one of northeast Ohio’s most distinctive natural areas.

The Falls Edge Glass Walkway stretches 137 feet in an elegant S-shaped design, allowing visitors to walk directly above Sylvan Creek’s gorge with views 50 feet down to the water below. The walkway extends to a point just short of Minnehaha Falls, creating the sensation of floating above the waterfall.

It’s pretty cool, but that money could have filled a lot of potholes on state highways.

The money used to temporarily fill potholes on state highways could be used to fix a lot of aged bridges...

And on and on.

It's a decision whether adding an attraction might draw more tourist money in to pay for fixing those potholes. Of course, we rarely as a public follow up. We just say, we like the change or not when we should be demanding government tell us to what extent it managed to pay for itself and other programs.

We have canapy outlooks in some of our metroparks and they can make a mundane bunch of trees and mowed grass become a dronelike experience. I think I prefer ours to that one. Ours aren't glass bottom but they made of wood and textured and dyed concrete, fit seemlessly into the nature. That one is rather apparent.

We used to use the park to sneak in through the back of the private quarry in high school 30 years ago. I’ve taken my kids to the quarry the past few summers and said we need to go hike the park part, so now we’ll probably go this summer and check out the new bridge while we’re there.

Best campground around for the last 50 years. Great place for scuba lessons too.

We used to be able to dive all over, until Mooser Jenkins died. RIP Then they limited diving to the one spot shown there.

That place almost went under and got sold for development until Wish You Were Here and Morrison Hotel tribute bands played there. Then ICP and the Jugalos 😳

We were out there once goofing around when the boys were little and ended up at the racetrack out there while high-performance motorcycle club had rented it. It’s an amazing experience to stand on that footbridge when a wave of bikes starts flying underneath there at 150 miles an hour. You can literally feel the shockwave in the air.

It’s much smaller, but the Peninsula quarry on 303 is now for sale. No more swim club this season. I hope some rich guy buys the whole place and enjoys it, instead of a developer carving it up.
