NE8 2024

Was looking back through West Branch history this weekend. Couple things here just for the heck of it:

1990-1999 WB won 93 games. (And a State Championship)

*1969 WB went 0-10, were shut out 9 times, and scored 8 points all year. Ouch. Anyhow, that HC later won a State Championship at another school........................anyone want to take a stab at his name?

Ed Glass. He later coached Warren Harding to a state title and was head coach at Hubbard from 1975-80.

I like hearing all the confidence that the SR people have about the region being easy. I hope that you all keep overlooking your potential week 14 opponent....

SR -Poland would be a g

It seems like Glenville at times is susceptible to the pass. WB can throw the ball and the starting QB #3 does a good job extending plays with his scrambling ability. He got dinged up vs Hubbard but I'm sure it was a precaution to keep him out.

The dubstat site has Glenville as an 8 point underdog.
WB isn’t going to be able to block
Glenville at all. Their line is their downfall. Too many athletes they’re not gonna be able to hit easy passes like they do against weak high school zones. Glenville is gonna man up and cause havoc. That can lead to big plays from west branch, but that glenville RB is also the type of back WB hasn’t seen at all

I watched WB's game vs Hubbard. I believe that #2 caught only 1 pass all night. But, WB didn't need to pass the ball.

I'm sure that Glenville's defense is much better than Hubbard's at stopping the run. Early on, Hubbard had some success running the ball. So, WB could be in trouble with Glenville's running attack. Good Luck!

Pulling for west branch, but watching glenville completely shut down Ed’s on the ground was shocking

So this week we have....

Girard at South Range
Martins Ferry at Poland
Struthers
at Perry

Week 7 we saw South Range go to Girard and come out with a 55-27 victory. Can Girard's offense keep the pace with South Range? Can Girard's defense get any stops defensively? I say no to each of those questions. 49-20 South Range.

I find it interesting Martins Ferry was an 11 seed with a 9-1 record. BUT, before beating Crestview, they only had one game in the regular season against a team with a winning record and lost. I do think this will be a good game just somewhat comparing scores and schedules but I think Poland out lasts them. 28-7 Poland.

Struthers/Perry is gonna be a good one! Struthers getting Dukes back changes the dynamic of Struthers on both sides. Without Dukes defensively, Struthers was still stout. My gut tells me Dukes will play defensively more this week than last which obviously only helps. Perry gave Kirtland everything they could early in the year and came out just short in OT. My heart is saying Struthers, but my gut is saying Perry. I obviously want to root for the local team so I'm gonna say a shoot out, Struthers wins 35-28!

Not that it matters, but SR in d5 probably has the toughest second round matchups of the rest of the r17 field. I still believe SR in a rout tho

If Struthers doesn’t start dukes on both sides and play him the entire game they will get rolled because they’ll be way too one dimensional.

Heart always says Struthers but Perry is a big favorite. I don’t think itll be a running clock but I can see Perry by 2 scores

I think SR-Girard is similar to regular season matchup.

Poland is going to absolutely running clock Ferry. Poland is, IMO, considerably better than StC -- the only good team Ferry played and they were crushed.

Perry has players. They have a really good front on both sides. They're extremely well-coached. I'd be really surprised if Struthers "imposes their will" on this game, and I'm certain Perry will be the more sound, prepared team. I'd take Perry by at least 2 scores.

More importantly for Struthers...does the co-POY play every snap on defense this week? Perry is gonna be tough for them to stop with him, but they don't have a chance if he doesn't. Regardless, I think Perry wins.

Girard doesn't score as much as they did the first time and SR rolls.

Poland handles Ferry with ease.

Struthers can’t make any mistakes they need long drives that finish with scores and shorten the game up as much as possible if they turn the ball over multiple times and makes mistakes Perry will run away with it

Easy picks this week - SR, Poland and Perry.

I don’t get excited about scores but all 3 games should be comfortably won. The wild card is will coaches hold their players out after establishing a big lead to prevent injury in a game already decided even if the margin of win is reduced. You want your best healthy in the playoffs and winning by 10 is as good as winning by 30 and they get more playoff experience for their backups.

Perry's varsity has only allowed i think like 3.4 ppg while they were in, total with JV play is 7.18 ppg. I highly doubt struthers comes in and puts up 35... jmo. Granted, they haven't played a super hard schedule, but they still held the couple better teams to low scores. Geneva only scored 7 and kirtland only scored 14 in regulation.

I agree. The game will come down to if the Struthers defense can hold up.

Struthers is good against the run but passing is a whole different story that’s why canton south rolled over them last year in week 3 of the playoffs grant it that kid was amazing but still Struthers defense is not good against a passing team.

South Range took their starters out at half-time last week. They don't care about the score. It's all business from here on out. As a coach though, special teams can become a huge headache but they were mostly prepared for that aspect.

I think Mr. Moses (#11) will be a problem for the Struthers defense, unless the pass rush can get him running, but I don't see that happening.
