Well-known member
My interest in NCAA polls is somewhat diminished this year, due to whether or not there is a season is still a legitimate question. With that being said, I'll probably throw stuff out here as I become aware of it. It's tough being a wrestling fan, as Ohio HS championships, NCAAs, and Olympics all got nuked and the 2020-21 season is still in doubt. Now the 2020 Worlds (put in place of Olympics) is up in the air as well. With all that being said, I'm tired of talking about covid on Yappi, so I'll give this a whirl.

The Open Mat (TOM) and Flo have both come out with PS rankings. I don't do Flo b/c they have a paywall. TOM actually came out with this on 7/6 but I missed it b/c I've been tuned out of wrestling due to nothing going on. Now, keep in mind that PS polls are ripe for mistakes. We don't know who might take a RS, we don't know if NCAAs will allow another OLY RS, many weights will be wrong, and typically new guys like Echemendia don't get listed (altho Karch did in TOM's rankings). So, take everything with a grain of salt. Drum roll, please.....

While there's a lot of questions (beyond if there's a season), I think IOWA is a strong favorite coming out of the gate. And I think tOSU could move up w/ Echemendia in the lineup, and Karch and Singletary getting on the podium (which I think both will do). PSU at 5th does not shock me. I think if we had NCAAs last year they would have been 30-40 behind IOWA, just finished 4th at B10s, and would have battled tOSU and maybe others for 2nd. And they just lost NCAA champs Hall, Joseph, and Ceasar, and AAs Rasheed and Nevils. While I don't think anyone challenges IOWA (unless a few serious injuries), MICH, CORN, and OKST all could be considered the 2nd best team in NCAAs. And I don't count out tOSU (or PSU) as making a run at #2.

Yeah, the top 6 are all outstanding, and I could almost see any of them winning a title. Maybe Demas is a bit of a stretch, but I think he could beat any of them on a given day. And then you squeeze Echemendia in there. I think he's outmatched by this group but, like Demas, could knock off a few of these guys.

Good stuff. I’ll just be happy with a season... even with Iowa as the top dog!

Any idea where the B1G and NCAA tourneys are scheduled to be held?

Those are just Top 8 or so teams with multiple guys. Something to watch out for if the season is postponed/up in the air.
 
WIN came out with their PS poll a few days ago. I'm on vacation with the grandkids so I don't know how much time I'll have to mess with it (but it is raining today). But, the top 10 have IOWA as a runaway favorite to no one's surprise and tOSU at T7th in a group that is pretty tightly bunched in a battle for 2nd. And PSU is 9th. I think both tOSU and PSU will emerge as a threat for 2nd but there is a lot of parity beyond IOWA. WIN doesn't have Kharch or Echemedia ranked, which will change a lot. Likewise for some of the young guns at PSU and other teams.

I'm not sure how Singletary got left out of the 197s - not even in top 20. I think he'll be pretty good base on U23s.
 
I don't have stuff archived from last year, but I think tOSU was in the 5-7 range PS and ended up a strong favorite for #3. And they actually had a shot at PSU for #2 heading into NCAAs.

Once again, no love for Singletary at 197. I can't believe he can't get a top 20. Maybe there's something I don't know. Granted, he was a 2nd tier 285 last year, but top 20. And he had a very good U23 at 97kg, but I know that doesn't count. I think he could get on the podium here, but not top 4.
 
And I think the latest is that wrestling wouldn't start until Jan 1, and who knows if that changes.

I know people love to bash Flo, but one of the things they have ALWAYS done is not rank true freshman because they have no results. Echemendia hasn't wrestled a college folkstyle match- how the heck can you rank him AWN? Based on what, exactly? With a guy like Kerkvliet, at least you can point to him going 9-0 at opens last year with a win over a NQ in Cloud. I would say being ranked #6 is still wild for him, but at the least he has results!

I have no problem w/ excluding true FR and RS FR. As you stated, RS FR do have some college results to go by. Some polls exclude both (I think), and others eclude just true FR. Polls are for entertainment and debate only. That being said, if someone tried to make the case that Karch (RS FR and ranked 16) and Echemendia (true FR and ranked 18) would both be NCAA Qs (ranked 16 & 18), who would argue with that? Some polls pull a guy who's injured after a few weeks while others wait a few months. That's why I average the polls (AWN, IM, TOM, TW & WIN). That gives a little more of a consensus rather than saying one particular poll is better than the others. I exclude FLO b/c they do the paywall.

Chase singletary will be a all American easy as him and collen moore last year it was a all out battle in the practice room.
Orndorff will start this year as boykin is Olympic at 97 Greco,i believe and then look for boykin to take over heavyweight . Look for Carson to move up high kid is a beast.

I assume he is enrolled. He is listed on the tOSU roster.
