Saw Hidlay was coming back at 174 for NC State today too. Add in all the Ivy guys who missed (Vito, Glory, Yianni, Dean, Darmstadt, Brucki), Evan Wick coming off Olympic redshirt, and the other seniors coming back, and 2022 might be one of the toughest NCAAs in history.

Edit- for reference, we had 40 returning 2019 All-Americans this year. Six missed the season due to Ivy league restrictions, one redshirted, and three (Suriano, Micic, Bridges) had eligibility but did not wrestle. That's only 30 guys entering the tournament who had AAd previously, with eight (Foley, Demas, Degan, Lewis, Marinelli, Venz, Wood, Stencel) not placing this year. Normally we have around 70 returning AAs. Next year there are 95 wrestlers with an All-American placing who have eligibility remaining. Not all of the seniors will come back, obviously, but still a potentially unprecedented amount.

I believe you meant Hidlay coming back at 157, The 174 is a sophomore, I guess he is also coming back. :)

That's 13/21 that placed and 20/21 that won at least two matches. Additionally, RBY made a Cadet team and Ferrari won a Cadet world medal, without a world championships last year. Very happy that top level kids continue to wrestle freestyle and compete of the world stage, I think it might help a little when they get to NCAAs.

That is admirable, and I'm sure his body will fill in at 174, but wouldn't 165 make more sense if he wants to continue in freestyle? Maybe that isn't one of his goals. I'll have to listen to the interview on Flo.

165 makes more sense to us, but not to him. 157 sounded like a grind and he was certainly a specimen at that weight, but his results have went the wrong direction at NCAA's and his dejection after his matches was noticeable. Especially after the loss to Nolf in the semi final. You could feel his pain. I feel bad for the guy and maybe he changes his mind...

I hope he kills it at 174. Way too many guys sucking way too much weight (IMO). I love seeing guys go up and perform better, as they can train with more energy and enthusiasm.

If I heard the podcast correctly, it sounded like he has to work fairly hard in the off season just to keep his weight at 175 in order to make 157 in season.

Technically, I think it does count for one vote.

I'm not opposed to a co-Hodge, I'm just wondering if it was a scenario where they both received equal votes, or a scenario where both received a close amount of votes and WIN decided to honor them both? I'd be much more excited about the first scenario than the second. I think I would have voted for Gable, really glad he got the honor before he decided to hang up the shoes.
