The dog days of the regular season are boring and no one seems to care anymore. I don't necessarily like the idea, but at least they're making an attempt with the play-in tournament to incentivize finishing close to making the playoffs as opposed to trying to tank.
I do like the idea above of increasingly slanting home-court advantage to higher seeded teams to reward better regular season performers, and I'd like to see them consider seeding teams 1-16 for the playoffs while still taking the top-8 from each conference. There has to be greater incentive to make a real attempt to play quality basketball all the way through the regular season.
