That should be done, they've already added Atwater Waterloo, Ravenna Southeast and Garrettsville Garfield. Need to add Rootstown and Mogadore. Then put Jackson Milton and Berlin Center Western Reserve and there you have 7. Could have cross over gamed like Mogadore vs New Middletown Springfield. Certainly a better contest than New Middletown Springfield vs Atwater Waterloo that's for sure. Will the MVAC take new teams with a Portage Division?
And almost every conference that has crossover games has failed.Crestwood would get in over Mogadore; along with Rootstown, that'd bring it to 18. Then you'd have to find a way to make 3 6-team divisions work, and almost every conference that has tried it has failed.

Mogadore is barely Portage County, let alone Mahoning. I'd assume location is the primary reason, being on the extreme fringe of MVAC territory. Otherwise, Mogadore sports, the community, and fans are a good fit.Why does the league not want Mogadore?
Mogadore is in both counties. Actually closer to most MVAC schools ( especially via the I-76)than Mantua Crestwood.Mogadore is barely Portage County, let alone Mahoning. I could see a world where the MVAC does like the CVC and has multiple tiers; however, some Portage County schools don't work well with others so that's an inherent barrier.
This is the most logical situation, but there has been a push to reform the PTC multiple times, and it is seemingly is dead in the water. A few schools left and don't have intention of coming back due to football reasons, others left because of the constant churn of random non-Portage County teams, and the general instability of the league. The big schools (Ravenna, Field, Streetsboro, etc.) splitting off was the beginning of the end, and IMO the nail in the coffin for most of the Portage schools was the league adding a revolving door of non-Portage private schools (Lake Center, Valley Christian, St Thomas, Warren JFK) to a dying league.Playing devil's advocate... Instead of the already too big (IMHO) MVAC picking off Portage schools, why doesn't the PTC pick off some MVAC schools and get to 8-10 football schools?
And the football reason was Mogadore, at least in the cases of Mantua Crestwood, Atwater Waterloo and most recently Ravenna Southeast. But don't understand that reasoning with Crestwood now having to play Kirtland! Waterloo having to play New Middletown Springfield! And in addition adding to transportation costs, ending local rivalries and less attendance at events. While struggling at finances. But correct in that certain " carpet bagger " administration and AD created the mess, then bolted for " greener pastures" and to create messes in new districts! This is the most logical situation, but there has been a push to reform the PTC multiple times, and it is seemingly is dead in the water. Sadly, the PTC is probably dead, and the only way it comes back is under a different banner (MVAC Portage).
Having been in the area for 70+ years, yes for those schools it had everything to do with Mogadore football. Those schools were very competitive and in some cases dominated Mogadore in other sports, at times basketball, track, girls sports as well. At least Rootstown stayed and decided to get better. Kudos to them! This is an outside perspective but doesn’t it seem like teams are doing whatever they can to avoid Mogadore? It seems like they have been exiled for whatever reason. Any thoughts?
Because Mogadore has had a traditionally good football team and for some they didn't step up and improve their program especially Atwater Waterloo. Mantua Crestwood had been competitive and it was always a good rivalry. I know many of their fans wish they'd stayed in league rather than traveling to Painesville, Cuyahoga Heights, Wickliffe and points further away. They no longer play Garrettsville Garfield, Streetsboro, Field, Southeast as well as Mogadore. This is an outside perspective but doesn’t it seem like teams are doing whatever they can to avoid Mogadore? Most Mogadore open enrollment started in kindergarten. Which now no longer the case as the state has " forced" Mogadore to not enroll elementary students due to levy failures. If you're familiar with Mogadore football, you'll notice most players are from Mogadore families with history of the program.Because of Mogadores success or is it a Massillon federal league situation where talent from other local schools are open enrolling to Moggy and playing against them in football?
And on the Scarlet side, most of those schools were apart of the ITCL collapse and how going to 3 tiers accelerated the demise of that league. I do not see much appetite from anyone in the MVAC to destabilize what it is now, with 2 8-school tiers (for football- scarlet still has sebring in other sports) that largely operate independently of each other. Adding a 3rd tier likely means you are going to have 3 tiers of less than 8, so schools would have to either to play more than 3 out of conference games or cross-overs which always ends up in schools getting upset.A lot of the MVAC schools just got out of that multi level AAC. Having a portage county division sounds good, but it'll be the same situation those teams just left a few years ago.
Mogadore may be closer to MVAC schools than Crestwood, but that doesn't really matter since Crestwood also isn't MVAC. If the MVAC were to have a singular opening, I don't think it'd go to either. I'd say Rootstown is probably ahead of both in line.Mogadore is in both counties. Actually closer to most MVAC schools ( especially via the I-76)than Mantua Crestwood.
Yes they were. EP and Columbiana were instrumental in booting South Range and Crestview from the league. Those two formed the EOAC, a clone of the old Tri County League. And on the Scarlet side, most of those schools were apart of the ITCL collapse and how going to 3 tiers accelerated the demise of that league. Once SE and Garfield jumped and the Gray tier got to 8, the ship sailed for expansion.
