Tri-Valley had great day. I am not sure how the computer program awarded New Lex and Try-Valley over 200 points. I have calculated the tournament points several times. I do know that the computer program used at the MVL usually is off. Here is what I came up with:

(Because the MVL has become two leagues, I will post the scores as thus)

2021

I think I found the problem with the program. Since one weight class (170) had nine wrestlers, it scored the tournament as a sixteen-man bracket instead of an eight man bracket. Thus awarding extra placement and advancement points that shouldn't have been awarded. It may have also added extra bye points. For example in the 106 pound bracket, Burkhart (Morgan) was awarded 20 points. (12 placement, 6 advancement, and 2 bonus). He actually earned 16 points. (10 placement, 4 advancement, and 2 bonus).

the red numbers on the bracket tell you what the wrestler earned for advancing to that line. feel free to double check it.

at 170, the first round match scored quality points only (2 for a pin by barnett) nobody else scored advancement points that round.

the change in placement points is the only change from past years.

Thank you for clarification. I thought that might be the issue. I do like the idea of placing six. Get the kids matches. Not sure it makes sense to score it as a sixteen man bracket, when all the brackets were eight or less. (except one with nine) Thanks for clarifying.

if every weight was full and had a full 12 guys it may make sense to score as 16 man bracket but for this year it didn't make sense since only one bracket had more than 8. that's why we only scored as 8 man.

I thought it was scored as a 16 man bracket. If it was 8 man bracket placement points should be 14-10-7-4-2-1.

Not sure where that info comes from. NFHS rules don’t say anything about bracket size as it relates to placement points that I can see:

Tournament Scoring
2 team advancement points shall be scored for each match won in the champoinship bracket, except for the final first-place match. If a wrestler receives a bye in a round where at least one match is wrestled, he shall be awarded 2 advancement points for that bye if he wins his next match after the bye.

1 team advancement point shall be scored for each match won in the consolation elimination, except for the final third and fifth place matches. A wrestler who has received a bye in a consolation round where at least one match is wrestled shall receive one advancement point for that bye if he wins his next match after the bye.

2 additonal points for each match won by default, disqualification, fall, or forfeit.
1 1/2 points for each match won by technical fall.
1 additional point for each match won by major decision.

Placement points:
Tournament scoring 4 places: 14-10-7-4
Tournament scoring 6 places: 16-12-9-7-5-3
Tournament scoring 8 places: 16-12-9-7-5-3-2-1

You are correct. I just have never seen an 8-man bracket with placements of 16-12-9-7-5-3. Not a big deal. The bottom line is Tri-Valley and New Lexington had solid days that will hopefully springboard them to success in the postseason.
