Governor DeWine has the backbone of a salamander. This guy was so sure that the Big Ten would cancel this morning. His office even said that there was going to be a big announcement about high school sports today.

When there was some backlash nationally about the BigTen decision, it caused a delay. DeWine chickened out at that point. He wanted somebody else to make the decision for him.

Thursday, Mike DeWine cancels Ohio high school football. He will accept no responsibility for the decision.

Salamander.

It's holding for you on Line 2.

My biggest fear is that he lets football start, get a couple games in, then teams have kids test positive and they shut it down and cancel football all together for this year. My opinion is you either go all in start to finish or move it to spring with the same modified schedule. Someone needs to make a decision though and in a hurry!

We will be postponed to Spring, just like the big boys. It’s the announcement DeWine was waiting for today, even said verbatim he would discuss “Pro, College, and HS” this week. From a health point of view, no possible way you can have teenagers and young adults not play for health purposes, but allow even younger teenagers to play in the exact same overblown danger holding the others out.

That is soft

The spring is not going to work for a couple of reasons. Seniors with deals won’t play. And teams that do go to playoffs will be playing too many games in too few months. Playoff end in June and new year starts in July, how is that safe for players with injuries and concussions?

Sure you can.....

Highly doubtful that you will prevail, but you can sue.
They have been dick teases to us parents and kids from the start. They have some responsibility in expenses schools and families have made in this process. Not much has changed with the virus in Ohio since they started “practicing “ in June. In fact numbers are better recently.

Same as college, I don't really see how a spring season is feasible from a safety standpoint with a regular fall season following it. The playoff schedule would have to be VERY shortened, which isn't going to happen if increasing numbers of fans are allowed due to the association needing the ticket revenue.

Yeah, all the top talent will be getting ready for the draft. Not worth watching.

No chance for Spring football. If football is canceled for the fall we won't see no games til maybe year from now. It wouldn't be logical say it's for the safety of the student-athletes because of Covid then expect them to play in the spring then turnaround and play in the fall.

I think there will be a high school season, with limited attendance. This is what drove the Big 10 decision. I highly doubt is was player safety as much as the economical impact. Wait till spring and hopefully pack the stadiums, or play now and lose money.

Spring is by no means ideal but kids don’t need more than 3 months rest. And there would be not nearly as much need for subsequent offseason/preseason preparation. Besides that’s what you have 2nd and 3rd teamers for. How about playing them? If a coach still rides his main horses to death that’s on him.

How many kids will just quit sports if they do not have season? They have worked their asses off this summer, with political people and coaches being positive about a season. Young people are not stupid. They will not come back. And what will take the place of sport or other school activity? Nothing good.

What happens when it's time for winter sports and we are in the same position? Does winter get pushed to Spring also to compete with Spring and Fall sports or does everything just get canceled?

Yeah, cuz they are having so much fun not having sports. They will be back.

gosh i just hope we can FLATTEN the curve by then!!!:)

heard the AD from Lakota WEst, who is on the board for OHSSA, on WLW, he seemed pretty confident that FALL sports will be played...

That's part of the problem here...you had a local AD go on a large station saying the OHSAA backs playing football and makes it seem like everything's a go. That's not the truth at all. DeWine has never given indication that he would allow games to be played. Just used games as a way to say Wear Your Masks again

No communication between the OHSAA and government officials
