According to ESPN, three Michigan football players have left the program this week.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan tight end Chris Barnett has left the team, the third player this week to depart from the Wolverines.

The school confirmed the move Thursday.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound freshman from Hurst, Texas, was a highly regarded player in coach Brady Hoke's first recruiting class.

Barnett was ranked No. 20 among all tight ends by ESPNU 150 for the class of 2011. He was projected as a future starter because No. 1 tight end Kevin Koger is a senior.

Fellow freshman Tony Posada, an offensive lineman, and junior receiver Je'Ron Stokes, who had three career receptions for 27 yards, also left the program this week.

Stokes didn't appear to be a big part of the plan on offense this fall, as Michigan returns veteran wideouts Roy Roundtree and Junior Hemingway, and younger receivers such as Jeremy Jackson have gotten good reviews during preseason camp.

I'm of course not trying to start trouble, but am just surprised that three players from Michigan would leave the program less than two weeks before the season starts. Any Wolverine fans have an idea as to why these three men have left?

Honestly, guys leaving camp happens every year. The reasons range from homesickness to pregnant girlfriend to new head coach or position coach.

Oh, definitely. You usually just don't see players leaving a program this soon to the season starting, though, unless it's for a temporary period of time.

Football's started, but class hasn't for UM. Realistically, the freshmen aren't even college students yet. If you're going to bail, might as well do it now...

Good point. I keep forgetting that it's mostly high schools who have just started and lots of colleges haven't yet.

Barnett tore his ACL in high school and his weight was up to 290. Not TE size. They might have been looking to put him somewhere besides TE which is where he wanted to play.

He also decommitted from Oklahoma and Arkansas if I'm not mistaken.

As for Posada, it had been said that he came in out of shape and was getting passed by the walk on linemen. Seeing the OL class coming in next year, there probably would not have been any opportunity to play at Michigan.

Stokes is a junior and was near the bottom of the depth chart.
