'Megan's Way Out': Proposed Ohio bill would require escape lanes at drive-thrus after murder-suicide at Stow Taco bell

The family of a woman murdered at a Stow Taco Bell last summer is calling for legislative change to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Twenty-five-year-old Megan Keleman was in the drive-thru lane at the Graham Road restaurant last August when 53-year-old Jason Williams hit her car, got out, and fatally shot her. He then turned the gun on himself.

The incident happened in a single-lane drive-thru, where Keleman had no way to escape. Her family is now working with state Sen. Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) to propose a new law called "Megan's Way Out." The legislation would require drive-thru establishments to include escape lanes that allow drivers to exit in the event of an emergency.

Looks to me like she had an exit, even with a car in front and nutcase in back. Jump the curb. Having an exit and having the wherewithal to take it are different.

She asked the employees to call police. Who would even think the guy was looking for someone to shoot? Agreed, you can't legislate "crazy." No drive-through change could prevent this.

This is an overhead of the drive thru. I believe she was already past the ordering station and in the single lane for the pickup windows. The hill to the right is pretty steep. We drive by here frequently. I'm not sure she could have maneuvered around on that hill.

With that said, I'm not sure there is much reason for this law. It was a tragedy but it is very rare for a single lane to be an issue. The guy was crazy and was taking someone out that night. It was just terrible situation to be in at that time and that location.
