Lowellville football coach Jim Tsilimos resigned not even 2 months after taking over as the Head Coach

Below is from Salem newspaper. The only thing different listed is "personal reasons"

Lowellville’s head football coach was a short one.

Tsilimos, 71, resigned on Wednesday as the Rocket coach after six weeks on the job. He cited personal reasons for his departure.

He is Lisbon’s winningest coach with 147 wins including the 1995 Division V state title in 25 seasons as head coach. He has a career record of 201-137.

Tsilimos is being inducted into the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in June
The personal reasons being the meddling of Lowellville insiders that were not supportive of Tsilimos. Nothing new at Lowellville where even their own hometown kid in Mike Palumbo was essentially run out as the head coach because he wasn't doing things according to their specifications. Tsilimos is old enough that he isn't going to put up with that crap and citing "personal reasons". I don't really see him going to Wellsville, and doing that to Camden Douglass, but I'm not sure what the Wellsville administration may have told him about the situation.

I don’t know about that. Sebring exists!
According to Wikipedia Sebring has 4191 residents
Lowellville has just under 1000 residents ( lowest since the 1890s). Coitsville has 1264
Its a minor miracle that school still exists

And not all of Coitsville is Lowellville. Most of it is Youngstown City
I don't know if it still is or not, but there's a small section of Coitsville that the kids actually go to Hubbard. A good friend of my daughters lived in that area.

Also, does anybody remember when Coitsville tried and almost succeeded to split their township in half? Half of their kids going to Hubbard and the other half going to Lowellville. It's what the residents wanted because they didn't want their kids going to the Youngstown City Schools. The Coitsville residents was very close to having a done deal with both school districts until Youngstown took them to court and had it stopped.

Talked to my neighbor about this very thing. She remembers after the Coitsville school closed, that was the intention. But Youngstown got the northern half of the Township and Lowellville the southern half. But Hubbard/Lowellville was basically how they wanted it split. She didn't remember why it didn't happen. Youngstown annexing the land up to the prison for the tax revenue I think is what got Youngstown City Schools to move their border up there since the northern part of the Township had some housing construction taking place. This would be in the 60s or 70s I think.

Overall, Coitsville is just too small to put up a fight either way. And with open enrollment yes most kids go to Lowellville or Hubbard anyways. Except my neighbor who sends their kids to Youngstown for some reason.

And I do think there's a small notch just south of Hubbard that is part of Hubbard schools but would have to find the map again of the districts

If I remember correctly Youngstown City Schools stopped it because they didn't want to loose that amount of tax revenue to Hubbard and the Lowellville school districts.

Also I do believe the boundary between Youngstown city and Coitsville is Route 616, or at least it used to be that way. The prison is in the city of Youngstown, that whole side of 616 is in the city limits.

It's a shame because the residents of Coitsville really wanted that Hubbard Lowellville school district split.

Yes. Youngstown expanded the city limits to include the prison. Not sure if that was AFTER the prison was built or before. But being in the city was partly the deal for taxes. If you look I believe Coitsville is narrower because of it.

As for the districts, yes my neighbor says no one really wanted that outcome. They almost all wanted split between Hubbard and Lowellville. And today it would probably have been better if the entire Township went to Lowellville due to their low numbers

So anyway, any news on what is going on? Back to the original 3 interviewees? Somebody on staff to bridge the year gap? Disband the program and play soccer? Merge with YCSD or Hubbard? AD run the show?

My understanding is that they are about 2-3 years away from seriously struggle to field varsity teams in some of their sports, including football. Girls basketball will likely be the first to go, and after next year's class of seniors graduate, they will be touch and go with a football program too. Their best option would be to get someone that teaches in that school to coach to help get numbers out. Their superintendent is not very supportive of sports, so this is kind of a reap what you sow deal with her.

Says everything you need to know about the state of Lowellville's program, especially the future of it. Wellsville is not what I think of as an "upgrade" to anyone.
For once I agree with you. However, if Coach T can get Wellsville kids to stay home, instead of leaving for Southern Local and East Liverpool, he may be able to get the program back on its' feet.

Agreed. The ceiling is much higher at Wellsville than at Lowellville. I have ben told by a family that has a jr high football player that there might not be a football team there in a couple years. The few years that Lowellville was decent they had one of the highest CB numbers in D7. It just isn't sustainable at a place like Lowellville. No attraction to send your kids there.

Leetonia is suffering the same. Lowellville had a stud team back in the early 2000's when Protopapa was there. They had quite a few from Campbell and Struthers on that team. Small schools live and die by Open Enrollment, just a fact of life now.

Lowellville under Protopapa side not have any Campbell kids on their team.

Gentlemen,

Lowellville did have at least one kid from Struthers in 1995 due to the Wildcats not fielding a football team because of a levy failure in Struthers. The Rockets' star RB was from Youngstown East and I may be wrong about this but I think there were a few others from Youngstown schools. Not coincidentally IMO that was the 1st year Lowellville made the playoffs after finishing 10-0 in the regular season. I'm pretty sure that Rob Greenamyer was their HC that season.

That certainly dispels the rumors from back then. That's why I threw that comment out, I figured someone from either Campbell or Struthers would chime in.

Yeah, the only season Struthers did not have football was 1995 and I’m sure a few of them went there during that time because of the fact that there was no football in Struthers for that season. But that was like 10 years before that I believe.

Trust me when I say this lol no athlete worth their weight is going to Lowellville if they are from Struthers. 🤣

Yes, there were Wildcats at several schools that year. They had no choice but to leave Struthers if they wanted to play football. Two of their best went to Poland and led them to the state semifinals. If they would have made their PATs in that game they might have been state champions.

A few former Wildcats went to Mooney and at least one went to Springfield Local. I do think Lowellville had a few Wildcats in addition to the one I referred to above.

95 was also the year of the Lisbon/Southern State Championship. Southern had a strike and Coach T (recruited ;)) some of the Southern football team. Together, they won the State.
