Lancaster Fisher Catholic

The Dock

Persona Non Grata
Saw that FC hired Ben Bethel from rival Fairfield Christian as their new varsity head coach. Per Tom Wilson of the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, Bethel went 94-10 (90.3% winning) the last four seasons at FCA - including 66(!)-straight MSL-Cardinal games whilst winning five league crowns and three trips to regionals.

Additionally— Berne Union girls varsity head coach Dwayne Hurst, who went 130-54 in seven seasons at helm coupled with copious MSL-C runner up crowns, has joined forces with Bethel and will serve as the Lady Irish JV coach.

It’s a very interesting turn of events, but very exciting nevertheless. FC has an interesting combination of athletic, multi-sport upperclassmen and quite a few talented underclassmen. Expect the Lady Irish to be a force in not just the MSL but also the Central District and perhaps the SE Regional.

Do you have any information on how this transpired? For FC to just take the best and arguably second best coach in the conference is kinda crazy. What do they pay those coaches lol?

Coach Hurst will actually not be the JV coach, now. Good guy, he’s just really busy right now with some happenings that are bigger than basketball. Matt Little (former BU, FC girls coach and former BU boys coach) moves over to the girls side and takes over the head girls gig in the Grove.

Don’t know if it’s a matter of a job paying more, but FC has the better vision and approach toward their girls basketball (sports in general) than FCA does. Plus there’s better facilities, a lot more girls playing basketball and girls coming up at FC. Get to be in charge of a great biddy league under the operation of the Irish girls program. Plenty of reasons to be at FC in any capacity for virtually any sport.

(Will respond to boys hoops later. Promise!)
