Lake Catholic 2024

Lake has 0 chance of closing. What the hell happened to this thread?
We all want to keep these threads on football, then someone comes on with categoric lies and you (meaning all of us) feel compelled to get the truth out. That takes us down a rabbit hole and here we are. Would be so much better if we could just stay on topic.

Ironmike - I want what’s best for Lake. Not sure why you keep talking about this newsletter. Like I told you on a previous post you ignored, you’re stating false information. Here is a screenshot of what you keep talking about. The “ENROLLMENT” is NOT up 40%. Now, read this again carefully…
Lchsman.. dude, we're on the same team. Take it easy. Ok, I screwed up the "students accepted" vs enrollment thing. Now I get it. Mea Culpa. As far as "ignoring your post", sorry.. we have multiple people discussing enrollment numbers. I wasn't dissing you by jumping back in on someone's else's rather than yours.
Again, thank you for the clarification on the data. Have a great rest of the day. GO LAKE!

We may not be comparing the same data. This snapshot appears to reflect the total number of enrolled students. The newsletter data I shared (don't shoot the messenger, I'm relaying data) is THIS YEAR'S ENROLLMENT is up 40%.

Fbrox, well said.
side note: It's usually around this time every year someone posts a doom and gloom/the sky is falling about Lake's enrollment. Only thing missing this year is someone boasting about NDCL snatching all the Lake County kids. That person usually disappears from the forum sometime late October...
Question: do you know if Stanzi is back, coaching the QBs?
My data came from a neutral party who doesn't have any skin in the game. Yours came from the school itself who would depend on an uptick in enrollment to entice donors to donate more.

Best Lake team since the last title team. Cougars are going to be a very tough out for anybody (Glenville or Perry) come November.

Scrimmage Review - this is my honest review of today's scrimmage with Ridgewood, Eastlake North and Kirtland. First off there was a pretty good crowd (considering many did not have power). The scrimmage was 12 plays on offense and defense - then the JVs did the same.

Lake started with North and did ok. I did not watch them as much as I was watching Kirtland - but I know North scored at least once. The Cougar offense has weapons and a good QB. The QB was off a bit on his long throws as he just missed some wide open guys downfield. Lake was clearly the better squad. North is North.

Ridgewood was surprising. They were coming off a 1-1 tie with Kirtland (same D6 region as the Hornets). There was some hitting and a few Cougars were dinged up - unfortunately one left on a stretcher ( hope the young man is ok). Ridgewood exposed the O Line a bit as well as the defense. Lake did score twice that I saw and I did see Ridgewood score as well. I heard they tied - but cannot confirm that. Lake appeared to be the better team IMO - but they were exposed a bit.

The game people came to see was Lake and Kirtland. The game was pretty vanilla and less chippy then people expected. Lake started on offense and needed roughly 10 plays to score (5 trys to get in from the 5). Nimmo had a nice catch on a blown coverage for a nice gain. Lake had some trouble when Kirtland blitzed and the QB was sacked twice (touch no tackle on QB). Kirtland went down the field on drive one and scored in like 6 plays from the 40. The Hornets ran the ball behind their returning line. The Cougars did get pressure on the Kirtland QB a few times on the next set of plays. They were coverage sacks as no Hornets seemed to be open. This would be a tough regular season game to predict. Lake would struggle to stop the Kirtland running game and the Hornets would take the air out of the ball. Kirtland would struggle to stop Lakes passing game as the secondary seems to need some work.

This was only the first contact scrimmage and everything was VERY vanilla. That being said the Offense and Defensive lines might be an issue for Lake. Solid secondary, QB and skill players. IF the QB has time to throw expect Lake to be in some shootouts. The 3 teams they faced all put pressure on the QB and were able to move the ball on the ground. The QB reads the defense really well and always seems to make the right throw - stud.

The starters only played one series this past Saturday at Kirtland. This Thursday will be one half of football for varsity.

That is absolutely false. I was there and Trinetti, Nimmo, etc were in for every play and series on offense against all three teams. They ran 12 offensive plays against all 3 schools.

Ok. I’m wrong. Everyone believe the VASJ clown show on the Lake Catholic thread.

This is the same guy that said 2 weeks ago LC was closing and Lake is afraid to play VASJ.

I was there and watched the whole scrimmage so my comments are accurate and explain then why the Cougars will not play the Vikings. VASJ approached them and were told no.

Lake reached out to play Mentor this season. But yeah, they're scared of vasj...
And again I ask - why has Lake avoided VASJ the last two years - why are they refusing to play them ? Legit question. It's a natural rivalry. They played 3 years ago at Mentor and it was a entertaining game. Just asking why Lake has said no the last two years.

I don't know and neither do you. But to say they're scared or afraid is idiotic when they were willing to play one of the best D1 teams in the state.

I know VASJ wanted to continue this storied rivalry.

I'm just spit balling here but it probably has something to do withe fact it was Lake who sent in the video's of VASJ's coach talking with some kids at a CYO game back in '21 leading to VASJ's coach having to serve a suspension. 🤷‍♂️

It's a shame too, both teams have some great talent. Would have made for some epic games.

I guess actions have consequences.

You mean a team that USED to be one of the best teams in D1. Lake wanted no part of Mentor when Triv was there.

Correct. Mentor used to be top 5 in D1, those days are gone. The funny thing is, if Lake played Joes this season I personally would give the slight edge to Lake. It’d be a close game but Lake has the better QB.

Maybe not top 5, but Mentor was in a regional final vs St Eds in 2022. Not like they are nothing. Just can't manipulate enrollment to play small D4 schools while fielding a Cleveland all star team

You like to talk a lot about us when we own Glenville by the way. Beat them in every playoff matchup.

You often point out teams won't play Glenville. Well Mentor beat them badly 2 years in a row in the most recent matchups and then Glenville wouldn't renew after that . So maybe shut your mouth and check yourself

As for Lake Catholic reaching out to Mentor, well people here did say that. Also mentioned Riverside. But factually LC had that week filled already. And Mentor scheduled D1 Erie McDowell so it's not like they went easier than scheduling LC even if the message board rumor was true.

I don't see LC being scared of vasj though. Probably other variables. LC has played plenty of challenging opponents over the years
