MAJOR games coming up in the next two weeks, if you enjoy soccer:

Girls: Fitch rolls into town TONIGHT to play our Lady Bears at 7pm. If you remember, Fitch beat the Bears last year, in Austintown, to become the only team, not named "Jackson", to ever win the Federal League title since it was founded in the early 90's. It might be short notice, but come out and support our girls tonight!!!!!

Boys: The #3 team in the state (us) heads up to Cleveland to play the #1 ranked team, St. Ignatius, next Saturday, 9/26, at 7pm. Iggy was the team who stood between us and another state berth last year, when the Wildcats beat Jackson, 1-0, in the Regional Final. Iggy is the defending state champion and Jackson was the state runner-up the prior year.

Great article in the Rep, today, on Jackson soccer:

http://www.cantonrep.com/communities/jackson/x1754594256/Polar-Bears-are-growing-up-fast

JACKSON TWP. — The soccer season started off as a challenge for the Jackson High School boys.

“There were some question marks that we weren’t sure about,” head coach Michael Biros said. “We were wondering how good we were going to be, because graduation took five starters.

“We thought we could be pretty good ... but we’re off to a pretty good start, so things look pretty good.”

One quarter of the way into the season, Jackson is 6-0 after Tuesday night’s win against Fitch.

Biros and his staff — Joe Garisto, John Gonzalez and Adam Tully — have blended six returning starters with several talented underclassmen they hope will be the nucleus for a run at another championship season.

The varsity football (aka soccer to those in America) teams at Jackson are UNDEFEATED (guys are 6-0, 2-0 & gals are 5-0, 1-0), so far!! Come out and cheer on our Bears at Neitzelt Stadium and beyond!!!!

This week's schedule for the varsity girls:
Wed, 9/16 - 7pm: vs Fitch
Sat, 9/19 - 7pm: vs Copley

This week's schedule for the varsity boys:
Sat, 9/19 - 3pm: at Walsh
Tue, 9/22 - 7pm: at Perry

The girls did a FANTASTIC job last night, cruising to a 3-0 win behind a pair of goals by Paige Bushman & a goal by Brie DeFelice! Our Lady Bears sit pretty on top of the league race after quality wins against Fitch, GlenOak (who is now 7-1-1), and Hoover. However, the work is not done yet, as we still have four Fed games on the docket for our heroines!

The girls continue their six game home stand on Saturday, which ends against state powerhouse & archrival, Walsh Jesuit:
Sat - 09/19 at 7pm: vs Copley
Wed, 09/23 at 7pm: vs Perry
Sat, 09/26 at 6pm: vs Cloverleaf
Wed, 09/30 at 7pm: vs McKinley
Sat, 10/03 at 2pm: vs Walsh*

*Walsh is definitely Jackson's biggest nemesis. Currently at #3 in the state, the Lady Warriors have won four state titles, to go along w/winning their district every year, this decade. Last year was the fourth time in a row that Walsh faced Jackson in the playoffs, but the first time the Lady Bears won. Circle it on your calendars, folks - it promises to be a great game between two state powerhouses!

Both soccer teams continue to dominate everyone they play and they are getting respect for it in the state polls.

Yesterday's new poll shows the guys at #3 in the state and the gals at #10 in the state.

The girls clobbered Copley, 4-0, at home on Saturday, to move to 8-0-0.
The boys whacked Walsh, 2-0, at Walsh on Saturday, to move to 7-0-0.

The guys play at Perry tonight at 7pm in a FL match, but the HUGE game is this Saturday, as our footballers head to Cleveland to play #1 Iggy at 7pm. Good luck guys!!!!

If you don't want to travel to Iggy, tomorrow, you can always watch a GREAT battle of the unbeatens at home!

Our 9-0 Lady Bears play the 10-0 Lady Colts from Cloverleaf tomorrow at 6pm at Neitzelt Stadium. Come watch two very good teams get their first big tests of the season!!!

Guess the streaks had to end somewhere. :dang:

The boys got shut out, 3-love, up at #1 St. Ignatius (quickly becoming a frustrating team for our boys), while the girls were able to come back and tie up Cloverleaf, 1-1.

Good games both, but we obviously have work to do, as they were the first BIG tests for both teams.

No time to rest....#3 Walsh Jesuit comes a knockin' on our door Saturday for the gals!

Polls that were released this afternoon, 09/28/09.

However, note a few oddities w/these polls:

1. These polls notes games through the prior Friday. Thus, all Saturday contests are NOT reflected in this poll. In other words - the loss to Iggy & tie to 'Leaf will be shown in next week's poll.

2. There are ten districts in Ohio (Jackson is in the Akron district), and each district nominates just three teams to be in the state poll. Unfortunately for the Jackson girls in this poll, Walsh, Medina & Cloverleaf are all in the Akron District with us. That said, I'm sure we'll be clearly out of the top ten for next week's poll, since it'll show 'Leaf tying us. Of course, we can easily rectify that for the 10/12 poll, by picking off #3 Walsh this weekend!!!

No, that wasn't a typo in the paper. Both the boys and girls beat MckInley, 9-0. Of course, that's like taking candy from a baby, so I wouldn't get too excited...lol.

Now comes the tough part...the two Saturday games:

The boys travel up to Copley for a 7pm matchup against the #6 Indians.

The gals host nemesis Walsh, at 2pm, who is ranked #3 in the state.

A pair of wins this weekend would be AMAZING!!! Go Bears!!!

Gonna try to make it to both games, but with two football games and a soccer game for my son, also that day, it might be a little exhausting...haha.

LOL! Well, I suppose it's a good thing that no one seems to care about soccer on this forum. I listed the WRONG date for that boys Copley game. The game is NOT on Saturday. It was last night (OOOPS!!!!!). And WE WON, 1-0 on a Morrison goal in the 2nd half.

Anyhow...congrats to our Bears for taking out the #6 team in the state!

Now, there is indeed a game on Saturday, but it's a long-distance away game, as the Bears travel to the Columbus area to play Olentangy Liberty at 3pm. Not sure what the Patriots record is.

Again, my apologies for the error. Guess I won't be seeing both teams play on Saturday after all.

The #3 Walsh Warriors came to play, yesterday, and we definitely struggled, as the Lady W's unfortunately dominated our Bears, 2-0. Walsh scored less than a minute into the game and added the second goal about four minutes later. The shots on goal are listed at 6-3 in the Rep, but I swear we played a good 70 minutes of the game on their side of the field. :dang: Walsh is an excellent team, and if they knock of state-ranked Medina on Wednesday, I really could see them #1 in the 10/12 polls. We have some work to do, if we're going to win our region w/some really fantastic teams in it. And the sked doesn't get a whole lot easier, as we have two away Fed games on the docket, yet, and two tough OOC matches w/North Royalton (10/12 at home) and #6 ranked Medina (10/17 away). As a note, that North Royalton game is only remaining home game left on the regular season sked.

On the flip side, our boys went down to Olentangy Liberty, and came away w/a nice win over the Patriots, 3-1 with goals by Fentermaker, Marchand & Zuniga. Shots on goal were 9-3, as the guys improve to an awesome, 11-1. The Bears now wrap up their regular season w/four home games, starting w/Boardman on Tuesday, followed by Lake (10/13), Wadsworth (10/15) and Hoover (10/17). All games are at 7pm at Neitzelt Stadium.

Go Bears!

Jackson boys dispatched Boardman, 4-1 last night. They have three remaining games (all at home) - Lake on 10/13, Wadsworth on 10/15 and Hoover on 10/17. All varsity games begin at 7pm.

Federal League Standings (Boys)
Jackson: 5-0-0 (12-1-0)
Hoover: 4-0-1 (8-4-2)
GlenOak: 3-2-1 (8-4-1)
Lake: 3-3-0 (7-4-1)
Boardman: 2-2-1 (6-4-2)
Perry: 2-3-1 (8-3-2)
Fitch: 1-4-0 (unknown overall)
McKinley: 0-6-0 (2-10-0)

I've just been notified that Boardman's girls team is REALLY good this year. In fact, they are UNDEFEATED in league play. As is Jackson.

Guess who play each other out at Boardman at 7pm tonight?

Yuppers....Jackson (5-0) vs. Boardman (5-0).

The winner of this game is guaranteed no worse than a share of the Federal League title.

GO LADY BEARS! Here's hoping the girls can shake off that disappointing loss on Saturday and get back that FLC that they lost last year (first time ever).

And the Lady Bears regain their Federal League superiority!!!!!!!

Jackson defeated Boardman, 3-1, at Boardman last night, on quality play by our Bears, including goals by Abby Pachin, Kalynn Flanagan & Paige Bushman.

With a win over Lake, at Lake, next Tuesday, the Lady Bears will wrap up a perfect 7-0 FLC season. Great rebound, girls!

And the stage has been set for a Federal League Showdown on the boys side!!!! Last night, our boys beat Lake, 3-0, and Hoover knocked off Boardman, 1-0. Those two teams will now collide at Neitzelt Stadium on Saturday at 7pm for the Federal League Championship! The Bears will come into the match at 6-0 (13-1), while the Vikings are 5-0-1 (9-4-2).

But prior to that, our Bears do have a home game w/Wadsworth tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7pm.

So here's the remaining schedule for the boys:
Thursday @ 7pm: home vs Wadsworth
Saturday @ 7pm: home vs Hoover (win or tie gives us FLC)
Next Week: OHSAA playoffs!

On the girls side, the Lady Bears play Lake at Lake tonight at 7pm. If the girls win this game, they will finish an undefeated season in the league and win the title outright.

Congrats to the girls for winning a game on Monday night against a tough North Royalton squad, 2-1. Good quality win!

The girls now have two games left before the playoffs:
Tonight @ 7pm - away at Lake (final FL game - win & we win the FLC)
Saturday @ 7pm - away at #4 Medina

That last game will be a big one for our girls, as the Bees just tied up Walsh last week. They are an exceptionally good team.

Tailgate Party Announcement

TAILGATE PARTY!!
Prior to the boys game on Saturday, the Jackson Select Soccer Club is hosting a TAILGATE PARTY at 4pm in the Neitzelt Stadium parking lot. It's a bring-your-own-everything event (chairs, plates, utensils, drinks, and food to share).

Then join us after the tailgate for the boys JV (5pm) and varsity (7pm) soccer games as our #4 STATE RANKED Polar Bears take on the arch-rival Hoover Vikings for the Federal League Championship!!!

LET'S GO BEARS!

FEDERAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to our girls team for winning the outright championship at Lake HS last night, 9-1. The girls finished a PERFECT league season at 7-0. They close out their regular season at #4 Medina on Saturday at 7pm before heading into the OHSAA playoffs.

As an AMAZING note, the Polar Bears are 99-2-3 in Federal League play during their 17 years in the league and have won 16 of the 17 league championships!

Federal League Standings
Jackson: 7-0-0 (13-1-1)
Fitch: 5-1-0 (9-4-2)
Glenoak: 3-3-1 (12-3-1)
Boardman: 2-3-1 (8-5-2)
Hoover: 2-3-2 (5-6-4)
Perry: 2-4-1 (6-8-2)
Lake: 1-4-2 (6-8-2)
McKinley: 0-7-0 (1-14-0)

OHSAA DISTRICTS - GIRLS

FEDERAL LEAGUE CHAMPS!

This time, it was the boys turn to celebrate, as the Mighty Bears defeated Hoover, 2-0, to win the Federal League title, again.

Congratulations Bears!

Turning to the fairer gender, our Lady Bears got "buzzed" up in Medina, as the Lady Bees won, 2-0. That means that Jackson's only non-wins this year came from #3 ranked Walsh (2-0 loss), #4 ranked Medina (2-0 loss) and #9 Cloverleaf (1-1 tie). Not too shabby!

The boys have a bye for the sectional semis and will return to action on next Saturday night. Meanwhile, the girls play their Sectional Semifinal at home on Wednesday night at 7pm vs Massillon. Go Bears!

Taming the Tiggers
The girls hardly broke a sweat against Massillon last night, winning an easy sectional game, 9-0. Maggie Rusnak, Kalynn Flanagan, and Paige Bushman all scored a pair, while Olivia Buttery, Lindsey Smith & Abby Pachan netted a goal each in the total rout. Abby Kenyon led the 14-2-1 Jackson charge on assists w/three. Goalies Danielle Wiseman and Taylor Stano might as well just have stayed home, as the bulk of the game was played on the Massillon side, Jackson blanking the Tigers, 13-0 on shots!

Next up for the Lady Bears, in the sectional finals, is Norton on Saturday at 4pm at Neitzelt Stadium (just before the boys sectional final against Akron Garfield at 7pm).

SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS TIMES TWO!

GIRLS SOCCER Wow. Was therE a wall in front of the Norton goal or what?!?! The Lady Bears absolutely crushed the Norton team on shots on goal, 15-0, but only ONE made it into the net - in the SECOND OVERTIME, as the Bears won, 1-0. The Norton goalie was credited with an excellent fourteen saves compared to none for Wiseman - in other words, the entire game was pretty much played on the Norton side of the field. After two games w/no shots on goal, our goalies are probably getting used to watching the grass grow...lol. Anyhow, congrats to the Lady Bears on being sectional champs!

Next up for the Bears? We host the ladies from Revere in the District Semifinal TONIGHT at 7pm. Revere is currently 9-8-1, but don't let that record fool you, they only lost by one (2-1) to the Bears back in September, and just crushed a very good Crestwood (14-3-1) team, 7-0, in the sectional finals.

BOYS SOCCER: Zzzzzzz. Jackson 8, Garfield 0 in this sectional final contest where the boys outshot Garfield, 18-1 en route to the easy win over the hapless 1-12 Rams. Baraldi & Costin both chipped in a pair in the match. As with the girls game, much of the soggy game was played on the Rams side of the field.

Up next for the boys is Twinsburg at home on Wednesday night at 7pm in the district semifinal match. The Tigers come into the match from a 1-0 sectional final win over Cuyahoga Falls and are currently 7-4-6.

GOOD LUCK TO BOTH OUR SOCCER TEAMS!!

GIRLS SOCCER: The girls were able to take care of business last night, advancing to the district finals to play at home against Hudson on Thursday night. However, it wasn't easy, as Revere only bowed out after going all the way to penalty kicks, which the Lady Bears won, 5-4. The Revere team is definitely much better than their record indicates, and they proved it last night in a valiant effort. For the record - Miss Wiseman definitely had her hands full last night - recording eight saves compared to only five for Revere's goalie. Best of luck to our girls against the Lady Explorers!!!

BOYS SOCCER: The guys joined their female counterparts in the district finals this evening! Danny Baraldi scored the lone goal with about 35:00 left in the game to send the Polar Bears to a 1-0 win over the Twinsburg Tigers. Congrats Bears!

DISTRICT CHAMPIONS TIMES TWO!!!

The Explorers from Hudson have definitely found that they don't like visiting Jacksonland, as the natives are very fierce about defending their turf, and tend to kick them out!

GIRLS SOCCER: The ladies played a great game on Thursday night, defeating those Explorers, 2-1, to win the DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP, and head to a matchup w/the extremely tough Walsh ladies in the regional semis on Wednesday. The Lady Bears actually found themselves in an early 1-0 hole, but senior Lauren Jokovich wasn't about to give up, scoring both goals to give us the win! While our girls have a marvelous 17-2-1 record going, the Lady Walsh Warriors are 16-0-2 and ranked #3 in the state. Gonna be a very tough game, but I'm confident our ladies are ready - the game is at Brecksville HS. Time to extract some revenge for that 2-0 loss earlier in the season to Walsh!!

BOYS SOCCER: The guys dominated Hudson with the shots on goal, 8-2, en route to a 3-0 shutout win to put our boys in the REGIONAL SWEET SIXTEEN! After a 2-0 halftime lead, the Bears never looked back, and Derek Zuniga even helped things by kicking in an insurance goal in the 2nd half. Great job to our (18-1) Bears - up next is the puppies from (12-4-3) Green, who defeated Kent Roosevelt, 4-2, last night to play us in the regional semifinal on Tuesday night at Brush HS.

The Boys won their match last night against Green 3-0 to advance to the regional finals on Saturday vs St. Ignatius. The game will be played at 3:00 pm at Rocky River High School. The winner moves on to the State Final 4! Go Bears!!

As for the Lady's, they will try to duplicate the boy's success TONIGHT vs Walsh Jesuit at 7:00 at Brecksville-Broadview Hts. High School. Walsh has been our lady's arch-nemesis the last few years, might this be the year we break through? Again GO BEARS!

Sigh.....I hate it when my hunches are correct!

GIRLS SOCCER: The Lady Bears' season came to a close last night, yet again at the hands of (#3 state ranked) Walsh Jesuit. That's five years in a row now that the two teams have played in the regionals, and the fourth time we were on the short end of the stick (as a note, the Rep says 3 of 4, but it's actually 4 of 5). Maggie Rusnack & Mindy Thomas both scored a goal in the first half, as the Bears took a 2-1 halftime lead, before Walsh roared back in the 2nd and defeated Jackson, 3-2. Walsh dominated the SoG, 12-5 and corner kicks, 10-1, so us holding them to just a one point difference was pretty good - kudos to our goalie, Danielle Wiseman, on a valiant effort in goal, recording 9 saves. The Bears' season ends at 17-3-1, with their ONLY blemishes to state ranked foes (#3 Walsh twice, #4 Medina, #6 Cloverleaf (tie)). Great season girls!
