"It's time for Alabama to suspend its basketball season"

Go Buckeyes
In the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Alabama should follow the example of New Mexico State and at least suspend its men's basketball season.

Earlier this week, Alabama star freshman Brandon Miller was named in the investigation into murder allegations against former teammate Darius Miles. Per the Tuscaloosa News, a police investigator testified Miller brought Miles’ gun to the former player the night of a fatal shooting on campus on Jan. 15.

Miller wasn’t charged. Officials told AL.com that he had violated no criminal statute.

Alabama is nowhere near the same territory as NMSU. If they'd said Miller should be sat, they'd at least have had a less reactionary story.

Clearly Miller made a huge mistake responding to his teammate's text to bring him his gun. What sort of moron sends that text in the first place? "Here Mr/Mrs prosecutor, here is some evidence." But it was almost equally stupid to do what Miller did.

By letting Miller play, simply because he has not been charged with a crime, is a terrible look for UA basketball and Oates. It basically is saying "we have no moral standards or guiding principles, as long as we win." Then the pat down during Miller's intro yesterday was a new level of stupid.

Even with all that, the "suspend the season" is a huge over-reaction. Just suspend Miller. The other kids and coaches should not be penalized for a couple of dopes' actions.

He can’t be legally charged, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t know the weapon he was handing over was going to be used for something bad.
I am glad you know what somebody is thinking. Your Irish used bad judgement by putting a student on a lift in 50 mph winds leading to his death, anyone get suspended for that? I mean they should have known better right?

They should’ve. At the same time, imagine handing over a loaded weapon to a friend who is intoxicated/agitated at 1:30 in the AM. That’s like lending a long piece of rope to someone who is suicidal.

Judge much? Did Miller know his friend was drunk, plus his lawyer stated that Miller never touched the gun but you (and others) know all the facts don't you.

Ok, let's call a truce to this whole debacle. Alabama has made their decision. Weather it's Oates, the AD or the President of the university, they've decided that this is their choice. At the end of the day, we can agree or disagree with their decision, but having 24 hour bantering of the program certainly isn't going to change anything. This certainly will not be the last decision we disagree with on college athletics.

Yup, that's the way the SEC rolls.

He had to touch it at one point to put it in the car. Or was the gun always in the car put in their by their friend, coach, girl friend, or boy friend for that matter.
