Is this a bad time to buy a new car?

My lease is up in November. I wanted to get a jump on it but this seems like a bad time to start looking. What is your opinion of buying/leasing at this time?

If I was you I wouldn't listen to me. But, I would GUESS that currently the new cars on the lots don't have a tariff add-on like they probably will in the fall.

Likely true. I don’t know when tariffs kick in, but I know Value City Furniture has been running “pre-tariff” sale price commercials.

Unfortunately you’re starting to see some tariff pricing hit just because the dealerships know they can, even though they haven’t been affected yet.

Depends on the dealership.

I have typically bought 3 to 5 year-old low mileage vehicles for my wife and I, and 7 to 10 year-old Camrys for the kids.

I ended up leasing a new truck for myself 2 1/2 years ago because the prices on the used ones were so high and there was a deal available. I just looked at the buyout price, and with the low mileage I have on the truck, I can’t even come close to duplicating it for the price of the buyout.

Pentagon Federal credit Union typically has about the best rates to finance a used vehicle, so I’ll either go there or just buy it out right. You may want to do the same.

I looked at a 2012 Kia Rio today for my son. 7,000 only has 87K on it. New tires, new breaks and rotors. It’s small but it’s low mileage. I may give him my ride and take this one for my commute.

I’ve heard auto commercial on the radio saying they are selling cars at Employee pricing. Not sure what kind of discount that is but my 2 cents.

I bought new a couple years ago during the inventory shortage. Used cars were almost the same price and less available. Most people were on waitlists. I bought new with the warranties pretty much evening out what I’d save buying used. Not sure what inventory is like these days.

Toyota was a good deal for me then. With the tariffs may want to look American. I had a Dodge prior to this car and it served me well, don’t think it’s a bad company.
