Indoor Track & Field at Winter Olympics?

I want to see the shot put and hammer thrown onto a lake of ice...and watch the ball crash thru the ice! :) Then watch some poor sap try to measure the throw without falling into the frozen lake!

I have an old Track Technique article focusing on the great Seppo Raty (Finnish Jav guy - 1987 World Champion), and in the article is a picture of the primitive throwing setup at Raty's home base throwing javelins into snow banks about 70-75 meters away. You can see a javelin sticking out of a snow bank in one of the photos!

Doubt it will happen. I believe the Winter Games are supposed to be sports competed on ice or snow.

Well, in parts of the US, early season track & field is competed in the snow! I've officiated many cold meets (28F was the HIGH for one of them!) outdoors, and even had one of my better javelin meets throwing into an early-May snow burst in Indianapolis 30 years ago.

Just ask Alaskans and those in the northern states about outdoor t&f conditions :)
