Iconic concerts attended.

As for Iconic concerts:

Stones/Kansas '78 in Cleveland WSOR. Cleveland concerts were great listening to WMMS on the way from Columbus. I've never witnessed so many stretchers mobilizing from the main floor to the medic tent. People walking around with signs advertising what party favors they were selling.

Stones at Riverfront '89. Chatted briefly with Cris Collingsworth and Boomer Esiason.

Stones at the 'Shoe both times.

Alice Cooper/Billy Squier Dayton Hara Arena '80. I believe April Wine as part of that bill. Squier had just released The Stroke.

AC/DC - UFO - '79 Columbus Fairgrounds Coliseum. Bon Scott's farewell tour. (AC/DC 5 times)

Rush at Veterans Memorial '77 Farewell To Kings tour. Alex Lifeson took his axe literally to a security guard who was trying to keep fans from standing and cheering. (Rush 6 times)

Van Halen '84 Oklahoma City - DLR farewell tour

Aerosmith '88 Oklahoma City - Permanent Vacation

Although I've seen many, these are concerts that stand out as iconic to me.
 
Pink Floyd @ OSU and Indy.
I was told at that time, the OSU venue was the largest crowd that they had performed at the time. I don;t know if it was true or not but they rocked! The fireworks at OSU were awesome. Then I went to Indy, and the pyrotechnics were out of this world!
Rush up in Cleveland area. For three guys, they rock!

He also told me a great story about a well known band with what was supposed to be a great guitarist. During the concert he went backstage to find there was a guitarist in the back actually playing for the well-known guitarist who was on stage doing the instrumental version of a lip sync!

He said Wynona Judd was the nicest of all of the performers that came through.

Haha found a better way to get it in this format. I wish I had kept all of my ticket stubs LOL But that is why I was able to identify years because of the ticket stubs I kept in a box.

Yeah, I could only think of iconic performers. Never went to a festival or otherwise infamous concert. But a HS buddy of mine recently lost his wife of 30-some years. She was 15 years his senior, and is the only person I personally knew who claimed to have attended Woodstock, and had the pictures to prove it.

I'd love to tell you guys it was Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend or Stevie Ray Vaughn, but it's not that good. If I am recalling correctly, it was a band that was big in the early 90's and had a platinum album. When I see my buddy I will verify whether my memory is correct as to who it was. I had never heard of doing that before.

Another favorite of mine in a similar vein is the fake amp stacks on a stage.

Gene Simmons famously went to a Grateful Dead wall of sound show to scout out the sound system and was highly impressed by the visuals but when he found out about the cost associated with it he dumped the idea and just went with the fake stacks.

I swore ACDC was lip syncing in Dayton when I went 15 or so years ago. They sounded spot on with their records, and barely said anything to the crowd on an open mic. Every once in awhile "Thank you Dayton" that sounded very faint and unlike the sounds system

bands have a way of saying 'this is the biggest crowd we ever seen' and 'this is the best crowd we ever have'.

Strange - I just had a flashback to when I saw Blue Man's Group "How To Be Rock Star 2.0" tour. The on-stage "infomercial" for the new, improved sound booth that forced a guitarist to slow down their playing until you could actually hear the individual notes was hysterical.

? Good one! I just found the "new country" entertaining mainly because of the "people watching" at the concerts. :) Those "new country" fans sure love to get drunk. Here's another funny story. The summer before my son's senior year in high school he had football practice in the hot sun during the afternoon. He was a big "new country" fan so he goes to a concert that night. He started feeling sick while at the show. We believe it was due to the heat because that evening it was hot as well. So he goes to the first aid tent. Now he is a big dude who played offensive/defensive tackle. Well the first aid tent ran out of water so they had him sit down and gave him a beer to drink. :ROFLMAO: I'd say the first aid tent crew was not too bright for two reasons: 1. They gave a minor a beer and 2. Alcoholic beverages don't rehydrate very well in the heat. ?

Presume your in the Cincy area...if so, head north about 75 miles to Hickory Hills in Ft Loramie for their Country Concert each July, sans 2020. Wed night through Saturday night. Bring in your own booze, food, and can come and go as you please all day long.

Its a blast, and yeah........drunkards galore.

I am actually a country music convert in the last 7-8 years. ALways was a classic rock, and when I was young and dumb was into the hip hop game (still jam to NWA on pandora every week) and never thought I would ever be a country fan.

Hated it.


But.......i embraced my reckneck heritage! Got tired of listening to the classic rock station and wanted something new. Pop sucks, hip hop is atrocious. Rock isnt the hair band anymore and sucks. Wanted something knew, and country is all over the place and quite fun!

Let's face it, what passes as country today is pop and light rock. Hell, I remember when Garth and Shania hit it big, people complained how they werent country (at the Country music HOF< this has been said every generation) and now they seem like vintage country!

I enjoy it, started to REALLY get into Merle Haggard, Cash, Alan Jackson, etc since the boogie man showed up and forced us into quarantine!

Garth puts on one HELLUVA show!

New country kind of grows on you but in recent years I've notice fewer and fewer people at the shows. We would get the B105 Country Mega Ticket at Riverbend. But we decided not to get that package this year because of the way Cincinnati was handling the pre-season ticket sales. Turns out it was a good decision since they had to cancel the season. I really like Toby Keith and Blake Shelton. They put on good shows.

Have you seen The Mavericks? I didn't get into their music until a few years ago when I started listening to Outlaw Country on Sirius radio. They are strange combination of country and Latin and rock. They have a real devoted following. The lead singer has a heck of a voice.

As far as older country from late 50s and 60s Willie's Roadhouse(Sirius) has some good stuff. Then for 80s and 90s Prime Country(58 on Sirius) is pretty good.

I think the problem with 'new country" is it's all sounding the same.

I'm an old timer and '80s hair metal is not my thing, pass.

Greta Van Fleet? So they have been called a Led Zepplin rip off. Led Zeppelin was a well know rip off artist, guess that makes Greta Van Fleet the ultimate rip off artist.

If looking for legit active blues based rock I would have said go see Alabama Shakes but it appears Brittany Howard wants to have a go at it on her own.
