The Jackson Polar Bears stayed perfect in Federal League play Tuesday by knocking off visiting Perry and McKinley at Shady Hollow Country Club.

Jackson shot 154 to outdistance second-place Perry, which finished at 183. McKinley was a distant third at 269.

Winning the tri-match moved Jackson to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the league. Perry fell to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in league action.

Freshman Landrie Grace paced Jackson with a 1-under 35 on the Bears’ home course. Teammate Kelsey Schutt backed her with a solid 37, while Cassie Pantelas shot 40 and Meghan Hatfield came in with a 42.

Despite making Shady Hollow their home course, the early portion of Jackson’s schedule had them playing various tournaments elsewhere. Coach Teal Harvey elected to have his players tee it up for a practice round on the course Monday. The work evidently paid off well.

“We actually haven’t played Shady Hollow that much recently. The practice round on Monday was actually the first time we’d played it this year,” Harvey said. “It’s pretty tight off the tee but we kept it in play and we did a good job staying in the fairways.

“Landrie and Kelsey both obviously putted well to have the rounds they did. Kelsey didn’t play well down in Pickerington last week, but she came out and turned it right around today.”

Shelby Logan paced Perry with a 42, while Courtney Machan shot 45 and Taylor Henderhan added a 46. Kelly Krcmar completed Perry’s scorecard with a 51.

The two teams will see each other again today when they compete in the Legends Invitational.
