Princeton 47
Sycamore 51
Final
Princeton was at the line with 12 seconds left down by 3 and Williams lost the dribble shooting the second free throw and line violation. Game over

Fairfield has flirted with losses against half the GMC but is 12-0. Is this a talented team that plays down to its competition or evidence of a good team always finding a way to win? Do the losses against Elder and X shine some light on that?

Regardless, they’ve basically got the league championship wrapped up at this point. 👏

I'd say it's more them being a good team finding ways to win. You have to think this team has 3 guys who have started on varsity since they were sophomores, were all league players, and won the GMC. I'd say it's less on them playing "down" and more on everyone else playing "up". Kind of like how when people used to play either Duke or Kentucky over the years, you're going to get your opponents absolute best. Wyrick has done an incredible job there.

I think it’s because FF is not deep at all, basically 4 guys are going to score or be major contributors. After that it really falls off. If any of the 4 have an off night or get in foul trouble they lose their edge. If 2 or more have off nights it easily can become a loss.

1/31 games all have potential to be really good and could go either way

Oak Hills 54 Colerain 45 Cards have been playing their best ball in a long long time, but I still think Oak Hills will get the W
Sycamore 61 Hamilton 57 Should be a good game here, Hamilton nearly had them last time. I'll go with Aves close
East 55 Mason 54 This will be a really good game, but for some reason I think East goes in and gets it done close.
Fairfield 65 Middletown 60 Fairfield has been really good this year. Middies have been up and down. This is a big game for the Middies so I could see this being a competitive one for sure.
West 58 Princeton 68 Princeton has been struggling a bit lately. I think they come out and get a win here.

Waste of time predicting these GMC games anymore. I'd say Fairfield is the only sure thing l, but honestly, they are beatable too. Colerain, trying and getting beat fairly easily every game is the only sire thing this year lol

Middies 52
Fairfield 48

another big win for the middies. Unfortunately they keep laying an egg against the teams they should beat. Fairfield’s only loss tonight still leaves them securely at the top of the GMC. Middletown in the middle of the pack

Fairfield and Elder should be #1 and #2 in some order and 3-5 Moeller, Sycamore and Princeton to fill out the 5 sectional brackets---beginning at #6 teams have to begin to make decisions about who they may want to face in a sectional final---fairly solid teams all the way into the late teens should mean some really good 1st round games this year. If Mason is #6 they may want to go in Fairfield sectional since they lost by only 2 and 5 points in the two GMC match-ups---some tough decisions at the draw on Sunday!!

Mason--71
East--68
OT

Wild game!

East missed a potential game-tying shot as time expired (Clint Adkins was incredulous no foul was called). An East player had intentionally missed his second free throw with 2.4 seconds left and the Hawks came up with the rebound but the three pointer from the corner in front of the East bench missed.

East was up by as many as 14 early in the second half. Mason tied it twice in the last 2 minutes of the 4th, including a 3 pointer by Ban Menker with 20 seconds left (59-59). In OT, Mason led by as many as 7. East cut it back down to 1 with 12 seconds left, immediately fouling the Comets who missed both free throws, but a put-back from the Comets made it a three point game. Mason fouled East with 2.4 seconds left setting up the final play.

Mason and East combined for 52-73 from the foul line.

Both games this year produced a wild final minute with East cutting the lead to a single point.

Absolutely. Could be some very entertaining sectionals this year.

There's a 0% chance the top 5 seeds all go to different secrionals. Teams are going to run away from the Centerville, and maybe Wayne, District matchup(s).

5,6 and maybe 7 will have some serious thinking to do.

Here's the game. You can always count on amateur sports video production to miss the important moments*, so no telling if there was a foul. But if we're being completely honest, lane violation on the shooter.

*Even when I watch college ball on ESPN+, I run out of fingers on both hands counting how many times they have the baseline camera stay on the free shooter so long after he releases that I can't see if the shot went in. Or immediately showing the replay of a made shot during live game action.

Yeah, good call on the would-be violation. I agree, it doesn't seem to matter how many cameras there are, live coverage decisions are sometimes puzzling.
It used to drive me crazy watching football games that the camera would only follow the punted ball through the air and you have absolutely no idea what was happening on the field.

Also, when did we decide it was ok to drive a player under the basket when he has established position on an attempted shot? That's why East came away with the rebound (against one of the league's best rebounders) in the first place. I ask rhetorically because I know it's been happening for at least a decade.

There are a number of different things you could call on Lakota East after the last free throw was released: Lane violation, foul, traveling by the rebounder.

Looks like the center official is giving instructions to those behind the arc not to commit a lane violation and ironically may have missed the shooter's violation. With varsity players, why bother giving that instruction? They know the rules.

Well I'm going ahead and predicting again for 2/3. Like Philly said probably a waste of time because no one has a clue anymore on these, but that's the fun part about it!

Princeton 68 Colerain 41 I think the Vikes go into Colerain and get the game going back and forth.
Hamilton 51 Fairfield 64 Indians playing at home on a Friday night coming off a loss, so I think they go right at them. Matthews vs. Crim should be fun to watch!
Sycamore 60 West 56 This is a game West brings it, but I think Sycamore is just a better team.
Mason 58 Middies 59 Last time this was a great game and the Middies won. I expect the same thing again tomorrow night. Both are very good teams.
East 58 Oak Hills 55 Both teams playing good ball right now although East has lost some close ones. I think East gets it done here.

You could probably throw most of the teams in the city in this same statement.

Alot of teams that could make a run or lose in the second round. The city is wide open.

Friday's projections based on RPI and tempo data....

Oak Hills (-2) over Lakota East (o/u 100)
Princeton (-23) over Colerain (o/u 105)
Fairfield (-18.5) over Hamilton (o/u 117)
Sycamore (-16) over Lakota West (o/u 110)
Mason (-5) over Middletown (o/u 127)

Is this the worst collective group of D1 basketball schools in modern Cincinnati history? I think it is.

Moe lost to LaSalle 27-26 tonight! I watched LaSalle score 6 total points during the entire second half against Elder. 6 points total were scored between Moe & LaSalle tonight during the 4th quarter.

Im an Elder fan and they may get the #1 seed, yet I'm not even sure they are anything more than average. Such a strange season with very few talented teams.

Any word on Izaiah Day’s injury?
He will be back in action for the next game. Hamstring issue. I am assuming limited minutes as games don't mean a whole lot at this point since the tournament draw has already happened. They definitely want him back as close to full strength as he can be for their first game of the tournament. Middies took the bye to face the Elder/Aiken winner.
