I know next to nothing these days about GMC football but I assume it is between Princeton and West as usual.

New coach at Colerain...really like this hire.

Coach Dattilo new O Coordinator at Mason

What other changes are there?

Sycamore has hired Darryn Chenault as its new head coach. He was a long time coach at Moeller and was in the running for Moes HC job. Great pickup for Sycamore!!

This is, objectively, an awful hire. In his 50s and has never been a head coach and they had to create a BS position at the school to hire him (Sycamore has a requirement that the football coach and boys and girls basketball coaches have to have a job at the school). From my understanding, the interest in the Sycamore head coaching position was virtually non-existent. The next two senior classes might be the two worst in school history, and everyone could see it. Heck, I think Dattilo would still be coaching if he thought they had any decent players at all. If Sycamore can beat anyone other than Colerain the next two years, I would be shocked.

Despite my misgivings above, I have heard he is a really good guy. I hope he is a patient one too with what he’s going to have to work with!
He is the BEST guy they could have hired! He was a front runner for the Moeller HC when they hired their coach. He has as much experience and knowledge as any hs coach in the area. I know him personally, and my scrutiny for coaches knows no bounds….the guys will love him and he will have them playing at the top of their potential.

Sounds like a fake job allowing him to be a full time football coach just like other GMC schools.
You guys are unbelievable.

How on earth would you attract a good coach on simply a $5,000 coaching stipend? I'm really interested to hear your response. You people live in a dream world.

No idea if this guy is any good or not, but the constant and chronic insinuation of cheating and being unethical with these type of things has got to stop.

And to my points for a couple years now, there's no reason Sycamore should be this bad. Plenty of resources for success.

But institutions simply refuse to change, and they just whine about everyone else.

Sycamore very much prefers that the coach be a teacher, and Sycamore has a top 5 teacher pay scale in the state. This was a non-issue for Dattilo and Austing, both of whom are excellent teachers. Sycamore has only done this “create-a-job” for a coach once previously and it was not well-received by the teachers’ union or administration and I was pretty confident they would never do this again. If there was at all a coaching candidate with a similar resume to Chennault that was also a teacher, they would have had to go with that candidate. That tells me that they had no such candidates apply for the job.

Also, the Sycamore community saw participation in football at all levels of school and youth programs precipitously drop off with Covid and not come back, which is why Sycamore is in a huge talent hole right now.

What's the difference between this job and requiring a teaching job? I just don't see why it's a big deal if they are already requiring them to be in the building? Who cares what the position is. Are they just supposed to keep their football position open forever?

People are so scared to just say "we want to have a good football team" and this is what it takes. So be it - it's ok to want to be good in football.

They literally had to create the position of "Student Safety and Success Coordinator" because that position didn't exist and it's not a real job. Datillo was a math teacher. Austing is a social studies teacher. They hire new math and social studies teachers every year, so it's not a big deal when one of them happens to also be the new football coach. Creating a $60K+ job out of thin air just to hire a football coach doesn't go over well with a lot of people, including me.

I'd prefer if there was more transparency and the position was "Head Football Coach." Then the Superintendent and Board of Education could explain to their unions, voters and tax payers why they believe it's an appropriate use of public dollars.

I wonder how many people in Butler County know that both Lakota football coaches are making over $100,000 total for their coaching stipends and "clerical assignment" jobs.

I personally don't think it is a good idea to create a job just for a coach....I will wait to judge until I see what his pay is. I doubt it goes over well with the current staff. With many districts facing financial hardship it is not a good look. I know previously Northwest had a policy of not doing this and it caused some applicants to drop but they didn't cave.

Mr. Dattilo is a hell of a teacher.

I just don't see a difference. It's just semantics.

Do people honestly think most football coaches are passionate about being teachers? Cmon - those guys are there because their passion is sports. There's no reason this new coach can't impact the community in this role just as much as he does as a teacher.

I seriously doubt he's doing "nothing".

I have no reason to not believe that.

But that's from years of experience. He started with a passion for football and made his mark on the community through that and getting better as a teacher. There's no reason this position can't do the same thing if the new coach is truly wanted to connect to the community. That's the important thing.

I just don't see how it's that different.

Football coaches are teachers. If you're serious about football, a good football coach is running at $75-100k per year. Doesn't matter if it's a teaching or admin job. If you want to be relevant as a football program, you need to pay a coach.

If you simply want your football coach to be a teacher, fine, but you're likely not going to have a good football program. Again, I have no idea why this upsets people.

How much time you think these coaches spend on football or their respective sport vs academics? I think we know the answer.
