GDP Drops At A 33% Annual Rate in the Second Quarter

"Shut it down (the economy) and this is what you get."

It will be interesting to see the result of the next one, all because of one guy.

I guess this is proof a coordinated attempt at creating hysteria can cripple an economy, especially when governors jump in.

Though I’m sure some would like to believe this harms Trump, his policies have been very economy-forward and most rational people don’t blame him for Covid.

No one is blaming him for the virus itself but are rightly blaming his pi$$$ poor reaction and overall handling of the health crisis . It will be a huge reason he likely loses in November

Wrong, that denture wearing ho Nanshy Pelosi calls it the Trump Virus.

Most rational people don't blame him for the virus, but they do blame him for the fact that our country has become the world leader in cases and numbers continue to rise. The White House should have provided a coordinated plan to attack this virus and then enrolled the citizens of this country (and Govenors) to rally behind the plan. But instead Trump spent months denying the seriousness of the Coronavirus and then focused on blaming Governors and using the whole things a a political tool to gin up his base.
So no the virus is not his fault, but the country's response and corresponding and continued growth of the virus falls squarely at Trump's feet

All of this is nonsense

That's easy to do since he acts like such a boob, but isn't really grounded in any kind of reality. We're the "world leader in cases" for over a dozen demographic/geographic/political reasons that have little if anything to do with Drumpf. This thing was pretty much guaranteed to dunk on us pretty hard regardless who is POTUS.

See above. There's no way to "provide a coordinated plan to attack" a novel virus that spreads this easily and quickly in a country with so many demographic/geographic/political variables. If there was, it would be the job of the CDC...who have been shockingly inept at performing their primary job function since Day 1. As stated above, the actual physical response to the virus would look almost identical under president whoever...the only difference would be the absence of the asshat statements etc.

But instead Trump spent months denying the seriousness of the Coronavirus

A lot of leaders did, from many other countries, including ours. ?‍♂️

and then focused on blaming Governors and using the whole things a a political tool to gin up his base.

Not entirely true, but he did do a little of that to a few who blamed him for stuff that happened in their states. That said, obviously not a great look for a POTUS, but again had little if any effect on the physical response.

Interestingly, at the same time as that was going on, every state received every bit of federal government assistance that they asked for, in a pretty timely manner.

So no the virus is not his fault, but the country's response and corresponding and continued growth of the virus falls squarely at Trump's feet

If it makes you or whoever feel better to blame him for everything, that's cool I guess. ?‍♂️

Let me explain. Trump could have laid out specific steps (that many states took on their own) such as mandating masks, closing certain businesses and putting restrictions (ie no more than 3 people in an elevator) on others to stay open. Since the federal government has limited powers over the states Trump would have gotten on national television and made a appeal to all citizens to follow these guidelines, explaining that they were our best chance to slow the spread and eventually beat this thing. Other world leaders made these types of appeals to their citizens along with certain mandates. If not how do you think other countries have reversed the spread while our continues trending up. Look at Italy the epicenter after China. They took aggressive actions early on. Their cases peaked at the end of March and fell dramatically after that point. Trump's continual denials emboldened his base to ignore social distancing guidelines which led to increased growth in cases and deaths. If you look at a chart the US had a slight drop in the month of June (which also coincided with states reopening) and we have had a major spike in daily cases since early July. So yes, his lack of leadership and coordinated plan has led to the situation we are in today

If you seriously think that any other POTUS would have mandated any of that on every single state, you're drunk. Sorry. That said, the task force actually did lay out a lot of these as recommendations to the states early and often.

Since the federal government has limited powers over the states Trump would have gotten on national television and made a appeal to all citizens to follow these guidelines, explaining that they were our best chance to slow the spread and eventually beat this thing.

Agreed. This is probably the one thing he should have done that may have made some difference. That said, the odds that 50% of the country would have just said "FU Drumpf" just because it came out of his mouth is pretty high...so it's hard to gauge how much effect it would have had.

Other world leaders made these types of appeals to their citizens along with certain mandates.

A large number of other world leaders have the authority to carry out said mandates, whereas ours does not for the most part.

If not how do you think other countries have reversed the spread while our continues trending up.

Besides the fact that we're basically no longer "trending up," as I stated, there are a dozen+ demographic/geographic/political factors that give other countries an easier time dealing with something like this...population, population density, mobility of the population, climate, homogenous vs. diverse population, political system, culture etc. to name but a few.

Look at Italy the epicenter after China. They took aggressive actions early on. Their cases peaked at the end of March and fell dramatically after that point.

Italy most certainly did not take aggressive actions early on....quite the opposite. They basically took the Bill DeBlasio approach and let it burn through for 3+ weeks unabated, and then locked down after the fact. The curves are almost identical.

Thanks for taking the time to lay it out like that. I would add that the virus was here long before the first official case. There was no chance of ever stopping it from the "beginning" because we didn't know it even existed. Community Spread was happening before they even knew the name of the virus.

True and and exactly why his famous China travel ban was meaningless.

Really? Possibly thousands more people coming here, carrying the virus, would have been meaningless?
Pretty much. Look where we are today. Community spread has been rampant. A few thousand people coming in early did not impact our results. Remember , that ban was not really a ban. Plenty of people traveled to and from during that time. Further, Canada had much more Asian travel per capita than the US and they have fared much better. It is a fake narrative that it had any meaningful impact. You just said yourself that there was no way to stop it from getting here. BTW...there is far more evidence that we became much more infected from Europe so if you want to praise him for China, you better rip him for his Europe policy.

Rampant? yet our death rate is tiny? Well given it came from China, it made sense to stop people from coming from there. Sure, in hindsight, maybe a different tact might have been chosen. But we didn't know then, what we know now.

Death rate has nothing to do with virus spread. BTW...I thought your guys don’t care about infection. If so, why do you point to a supposed infection action as his signature move? Makes zero sense.

death rates not looking so great either.
