So as far as our predictions go in picking our GCL champs, we are averaging only 13.5% of us correctly picking the champs each year.
With only 4 teams to choose from, a room full of monkeys would average 25%, nearly twice as good as our current track record!

Actually, 14 picked LaSalle to win the GCL title this year.
You’re looking at the 7 votes from 2018, when the Lancers finished 0-3. So the voters were right about the Lancers in 2018.

Not a good thing to get cocky in playoffs: Should never forget 2016 when an strange call by the Edgewood coach canceled a game-winning field goal and instead went for 4th and 4 And did not make it. LS eaked out the win, ultimately winning state

Three Greater Catholic League South Division football teams have officially qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Football Tournament, and all three earned the right to host a first-round playoff game on their campus this Friday night when four of the state’s seven divisions begin postseason play with games around Ohio. The final Harbin computer ratings, the system used to qualify teams for the state playoffs, were released today along with first-round pairings. The top eight teams in each region qualify for the playoffs, with the top four seeds earning the right to host first-round games. All subsequent rounds are played at neutral facilities, with the state championship games set for December 5-7 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
St. Xavier (8-2), with wins the last two weeks against Cleveland St. Ignatius and Louisville St. Xavier, vaulted to the No. 1 seed in Division I, Region 4. The Bombers will host No. 8 seed Mason (5-5) at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Xavier Stadium. Elder (8-2), which won six of its last seven games, is the No. 4 seed and will welcome No. 5 Lakota West (7-3) to The Pit in Price Hill at 7 p.m. Friday. La Salle, by virtue of its 27-25 win against Elder last Friday at home to earn the Lancers their second outright GCL South title in school history (the other in 2016), moves to the No. 1 seed in DII, Region 8. As a result, La Salle will host Little Miami (8-2), which defeated Simon Kenton from Northern Kentucky in its final game, to clinch the final spot. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday at Lancer Stadium.
Firsts-round pairings were released earlier today by the OHSAA.

The Pope finished the regular season with an unblemished record on his predictions. While some questions were raised on "his picks as opposed to which team he really wanted to win", these questions were handled by a panel of 3 judges, before whom the Pope was required to appear. The panel of 3 judges (two cats and one dog) all gave their support to the Pope after he argued his case and provided them all with small treats. So please, no more questions about the perfect record of the "Pope's Picks" during the 2019 regular season.

GCL South Announces 2019 Football All-Star Teams

Elder’s Luebbe, La Salle’s Porter Named Co-Players Of Year
The Greater Catholic League South Division is pleased to announce its all-star football teams and special award winners for the 2019 season. First- and second-team members of this prestigious team, along with winners of the categorical awards, were voted on by league coaches at a special meeting last Sunday. Elder senior quarterback Matthew Luebbe was named GCL South Co-Player of the Year after leading the GCL South in rushing yards, with 1,099, to go along with 11 touchdowns (averaging 8.2 yards per attempt). Luebbe ranked second in the league in passing yards, with 2,064, with 18 TDs and just six interceptions, for an Elder offense that averaged 38.4 points game and helped the Panthers finish 8-2 and make the Division I state playoffs.
Luebbe shares the honor with versatile La Salle senior Cam Porter – a Northwestern University verbal commit who played an integral role in the Lancers’ season on both sides of the ball and on special teams. Porter was fourth in the GCL South in rushing yards, carrying 93 times for 565 yards and eight TDs. He also caught 14 passes for 158 yards and a score. “He played selflessly in all three phases of football for our team this year,” said La Salle coach Pat McLaughlin. “Quite honestly, we are a different team if he does not play in all phases. Cam is one of the best kids I have been around in my 20 years as a coach.”
McLaughlin, who led La Salle to a 3-0 league record and the school’s second outright GCL South football title in its history, was named Coach of the Year by his peers. The Lancers posted a road victory at St. Xavier, 22-15, and then held off Elder, 27-25, last Friday – getting key defensive plays late in both games to earn the coveted crown and also finish as the No. 1 seed in Division II, Region 8 entering the state football playoffs.
