The GCL South is one of the more competitive high school football conferences in the country.
All 4 teams have won at least 2 state titles in the past 17 years, and all but the LaSalle titles were D1. Since 2012, GCL South teams have brought home 6 state titles, 3 in D1 and 3 in D2.
Finally, note that 3 of the 6 most recent GCL South state championships were won by teams which didn’t even win the GCL South title!

No idea what to expect in 2019 after Moeller surprised everyone by running the table in 2018.
And your thoughts??????

Please note, a little bit of college football (UC, OSU, ND) may also be discussed on this thread from time to time.
We will also include Iggy and Eds in some of the conversation because no one likes them!

Note: weekly results and summary of GCL-S games (from GCL website) will be posted on this thread.

And please note the following if you or your family members plan on attending GCL-South games......

1) St X Mothers Club will gather together on Friday mornings at Hyde Park Country Club before St X home games. The ladies will enjoy a group manicure/pedicure to be followed by a quick botox session prior to tailgating.

2) Moeller football fans will once again begin concealed-carry classes in August for all those attending games at Lockland Stadium.
*Note... I understand Moe may not be playing home games at Lockland Stadium this year so I’ll have to find another way to insult them.

3) LaSalle held a ceremony to hang their first-ever solo GCL title banner (won in 2016) at their stadium during the 2017 season. The next GCL football title ceremony at LaSalle is scheduled for 2067.

4) A fundraiser has been set up by the homeless in Haiti to benefit Elder fans living in Price Hill. While the Haitians realize they are living in abject poverty with very little food, shelter, clothing or clean water, Haiti resident Chico summed it up best..... "of course living in Haiti sucks, but it sure beats the hell out of living in Price Hill"

5) A GCL fundraiser has been established to benefit the Colerain Mothers Club. Upon reaching our stated goal of $24,000 we will be gifting the Colerain Mothers Club 12 new, heavy duty treadmills for their own personal use.

6) Rumor has it St. Eds and St. Ignatius recently applied for membership into the GCL South but were turned away on the basis of the "3 strikes and you're out" clause.
Strike 1) burning rivers in Cleveland
Strike 2) miserable weather in Cleveland
Strike 3) the city misspelled it's own name (Moses Cleaveland (January 29, 1754 – November 16, 1806) was a lawyer, politician, soldier and surveyor, from Connecticut who founded the U.S. city of Cleveland, Ohio)

7) And finally.....
St X alums are still marching on school grounds demanding the return of beer at their tailgating.

That’s my week 1 upset “stone cold lock of the week”
Don’t doubt me on this. My picks finished 2018 rated A+ with 98.3% accuracy.

If you're so sure of this pick shouldn't it be firecracker hot and not stone cold
Why are you calling this an upset? La Salle went 4-5 while West went 4-6 last year. Shouldn't this then be a pick'em where it's anyone's game.,

should be able to get a pretty good look at how good West actually is when they play against Colerain at Lakota West next week in a scrimmage. You know they are going to be out to show everybody just how good Lakota West has become under Bolden, and Colerain is going to have it out for Bolden for Leaving. I do not think this is going to be your simple scrimmage

Based on inside information, the Pope has moved the line by 3 points.

West now wins this game by 13 and Bolden let’s everyone know the GMC will be contested for the first time in a long time!

Lasalle gets Lakota West and Mason in actual games this year. Both should be good but not great teams in the 3-6 range in the GMC. They should be good barometer games.

I know the West game is week 1, I trust the Mason game is also early season...

2019 Weekly Polling Update...8/23/19

Elder 43%
St X 23%
Moeller 20%
LaSalle 13%

Personally, I’m looking for the top 3 to beat up on each other and LaSalle to go winless again.

Hey the lancers played like gods in the scrimmage against walnut tonight the defense overpowered an o line with three division 1 recruits the offense was airing out the ball and killing the eagles from the ground I have hope

Dude you beat walnut. I'll leave it right there

Yes, and Lakota West "beat" Colerain. People were wearing practice shirts last night.

I believe La Salle will be pretty good this year, but let's not over-blow scrimmages that are just glorified practices.

This scrimmage is on YouTube.

I heard Moeller "got their asses kick" by Springfield yesterday. 28-10. It was 21-0 at half. Apparently Moe having issues on defense stopping the forward pass. This was reported to me by a Moe parent. Can anyone verify this report?

This should surprise no one if accurate. This is a very young team with maybe 2 players on defense that are established starters. The offense to this point has no one that has distinguished himself. A record of 2-8 or 3-7 is likely unless they catch some early season breaks and can pull off an upset or two down the stretch. Could very well be 1-3 going into GCL-S play. Next year should be markedly different with a lot of young talent coming up. GBM

I think the GCL-S is Elder’s to lose. Really good on both lines with a typical Elder passing attack.

Springfield's quarterback is legit. I don't know his name and someone told me he is a sophomore, but the kid is very good. They also have weapons for him to throw to. Moeller had a hard time defending him. He's definitely the real deal. If he's really only a sophomore, the sky is the limit for the kid. He looked like he was in midseason form last night. Moeller played a really sloppy game. I lost track of how many penalties they had. They came in bunches which really kept the offense from getting into any kind of flow. Like birdog said, they are young and there is a lot of room to get better and clean up the sloppiness. It starts for real next week. I will be interested to see how Springfield does this season. I thought they have an excellent all around team. They are big, fast and have weapons on offense.

Curious as to why you say this. Not saying you're wrong, but I've only been hearing/seeing that the DL is the biggest question mark due to inexperience. Did they look strong in the scrimmages, even if it was just Walnut and Anderson?
