Gambling thread

My guess is the Dirt track is a POS. The cushion is likely gone and racing management particuarly TSG and CHRB are so stupid they cant get out of their own way.

They likely will do similar maintenance like they did at Del Mar a few years back.

Bunch of idiots. Decision should have been made awhile ago to stop training/racing but unfortunately the mighty dollar speaks loudest

21 horses in 10 weeks? Damn.
 
Yup. They have gotten a lot of rain, sealed unsealed track multiple times in a day. If they would have been proactive this would have been nipped in the bud awhile ago. Instead they didnt want to admit any guilt and accept responsibility.

Only a matter of time before racing is banned like Greyhounds. Thankfully my wife will be making that human research money

Took a lady to MVG last Saturday just for a few beers people watch etc... well we decided to play show bets on the trotters started out at 5$ 8 races later went inside casino with a 110$ voucher , and a slight buzz
 
Man if Title Ready wouldnt have hung I would have been looking at a much better day. Oh well cant complain.
 
Didnt play anything at Turfway just because I thought the all stakes p5 would be chalky and so far it has proven to be.
 
Close Hatches' first foal is a G3 winner. Love seeing accomplished mares on the track produce good foals.
 
Didnt change anything though bc the result was 10-1-2-3


Last 7 races were won by favorites at TP. Glad I stayed away
 
Dont take this wrong way but this is something I am trying to improve on myself: expressing my opinions correctly.

With a super box of 5 horses you give equal weight in all spots to each horse, when it appears your opinion was you liked the 10 and 9 the most as evidenced by your exacta box and WPS bet on the 9.

So if your opinion was you liked 9 the most, as evidenced by your WPS, you should also press that opinion.

For example something like 9/10/4,6,7/4,6,7 or 9,10/9,10/4,6,7/4,6,7

(Not sure on your opinions/rankings of 4,6,7 so i put them in equal weights for 3rd and 4th)

Also and this is something I struggle with, dont take long shots off your ticket in favor of short priced horses. Price should be a consideration when choosing horses. If you like a long shot use him! Dont worry about what the "public" thinks, you are trying to beat them.

Gambling to me isnt about picking the most logical winners....

With the general public, this is probably far and away the most poorly understood gambling concept. I've only done a very small amount of coaching, but one of the first things I usually go over in excruciating detail, before anything else, is the concept of "expected value". It's not a difficult idea, but it's not necessarily intuitive, so a lot of people blink the first time it's explained to them.

You get this, but goal of of a bet is NOT to try to simply throw money at what you think will happen. You're trying to find bets that you think have a better real chance of happening than the book odds suggest.

I don't play a lot of live poker any more (it's just much more economical for me to play online, for a number of reasons), but I went out yesterday to hang out with some friends and just enjoy an afternoon.

I managed to get CLAWED IN THE FACE.

There was a woman who came in off of the casino floor, obviously drunk, and obviously steaming, and got placed in a seat right next to me. I don't know the full story, but she had probably spent the afternoon dumping off money at the table games. I've seen that kind of thing countless times before.

She picked a really bad time to be at our table. It was just casual, for fairly insignficant stakes, but the game was pretty "regular heavy". Any amateur can get lucky against regulars, but it's not very likely, especially someone like that who's all tipsy and tilted coming in. She was getting absolutely killed, and became increasingly hostile about it. She took particular exception with me, because I was sitting directly to her left, and acting right after her in every hand.

I've dealt with more than my share of angry losing drunks in my lifetime, so I mostly just kind of shrugged her off. She was swearing a lot, and the dealer probably should've been more proactive, but everyone just kind of let it go. Angry drunk money is the same as any other money. After a while, she started getting really hostile, especially at me, so I did something a little childish and flashed a bluff at her after she folded a large hand, just to kind of needle her a bit for all the verbal abuse she was throwing at everyone.

Apparently that was the last straw, and she stood up and took a swipe at me. I wasn't paying full attention, and she caught me right on the face, hard enough to draw blood. She was wearing acrylics, and those things are apparently not a joke! She was too drunk to get another real swipe in, and I just sort of pushed her back just enough to get some distance (I had absolutely no desire to get into a cat fight with crazy drunk acrylics lady), and casino security came in to pull her off of the floor.

I was kind of stunned. People get into spats all the time in card rooms, but it almost never gets physical in any way (even the dumbest people are aware of the cameras and security). I declined to press charges when the staff talked to me later, but I'm almost certain that she'll be banned from the building. What in the actual heck?

Is showing your cards after you bluffed really a bad thing? I would think it could be used as leverage later. Just make that person go on tilt or second future decisions.

Is that a rare thing to do?

Are comped drinks a thing in (i assume you play in OH) ohio casinos?

I don't live in Ohio, but if I remember correctly, they have some relatively tight rules about alcohol (at least as far as casinos go). The Ohio casinos have a last call and you can't use comps on booze. Those casinos themselves would probably love to have looser rules, but it was part of their licensing deal. I remember people who were used to other casinos in other states being kind of shocked by the arrangement.

Showing a bluff is one of those weird "it depends" things. If I did that to a friend or a regular, they'd probably just shrug or maybe find it strangely funny. It's mostly considered to be just part of the game. Experienced players all expect a certain amount of "psychological nonsense" from other players, especially if they're familiar with each other. If you do it to someone who's inexperienced and/or having a really bad go of things though, there's a good chance they'll feel "shown up", like you're laughing at them (which, in that case, was kind of true), and it's just kind of mean. It falls into a loose category of "it's probably fine, but you should probably avoid it with casuals".

It's still weird to me how many "rules that aren't rules" come into play, like in baseball. The strangest one is probably in regards to "slowrolling" (dramatically taking time to show your cards when you know you have the best hand), where you'd only ever do it to someone who was either your best friend (maybe) or your worst enemy (even then, still maybe), and never ever anyone in-between.

Little late but 16 friends had a handicap challenge this past week 150$ a man 2 man teams 1 team wins we all win , we each got 1 race at Dubai, then each team pulled a track out of the hat , my team pulled AQ had a pretty solid day with a return of 838$ to take first place , return on original 150 was plus 28
