Elizabeth Whaley PR in the 1600 at districts

Elizabeth Whaley's time of 4:42.85 is the #1 time in Ohio for the year and a top 10 USA time.

She won this race by more than 37 seconds and lowered the district record, set my C.J. Robinson of Reading in 1982 (!) by more than 10 seconds.

She's only getting better.

Robinson didn't have the 1600m record as she ran the mile not the 1600m in 1982 at Reading which had not converted their track to meters, Whaley blew away the record of Emily Stites of Wyoming who had the fastest 1600m time in 5:07.24. JAVMAN83 would tell us that Robinson's mile time would convert to 4:49.7, so Whaley blew away the time that Robinson probably went by in the 1600m. A converted time can never count as a meet record.

Elizabeth Whaley follows with a 2:12.87, breaking Mariemont's Marin Valentine's district record of 2:16.55 by nearly 4 seconds.

That time was not her best of the year. She ran a 2:11.34 at the Goshen Invitational on April 29th which has her ranked third in the state. A 1600m-800m at the same meet is a difficult double.

She's an incredibly gifted and dedicated athlete. I sure hope she runs the mile this summer and puts CJ's mile record (4:48.3) and the all-time Ohio mile record (4:41.22, Stephanie Morgan (Barnesville), 2008) to rest. Sub-4:40, Elizabeth!

GHG Timing is wrong using Robinson's mile time as the record for the 1600m, but it doesn't really matter in Whaley's case.
Correction: Elizabeth already had the 1600m district record from her 5:03.42 win in 2021. That time broke Stite's 5:07.24 mark from 2011.

Over the mile (1975-1987) at the Reading Class AA district meet, there were 2 ladies that would've been sub-5:00 for the 1600m - CJ Robinson (4:59.4 mile, '81 meet ; 4:51.3 mile, '82 meet), and Michelle Sica, who ran a 5:00.4 mile (4:58.7+ 1600m) at the '85 meet.

Since 1988, when that district meet moved to the 1600m distance starting at Glen Este (may the Trojans live in peace), there has been only one lady sub-5:00 for either the mile or 1600m - Elizabeth Whaley.
