Elder vs. Lakota West

Well sounds like the Panthers should pack it in. Based on this board there's no chance.

I'm certainly not saying that. My only point is Elder's offense has become very one dimensional. They will need a better game plan than just having Brass run the ball if they are going to win this game.

That’s a good description. And that fine when you’re matched up vs smaller DLs like LS and OH. It’s not going to work vs West, UNLESS, you can get West to lighten the box by throwing the ball effectively.

That's fair, would love to see a plan similar to Ed's, but Brass is going to run the ball. He's their most productive player, you don't just abandon that, but I agree picking your moments when you lean on him and the OL up front. Need to throw to set up the run.

Griffith doesn't look 296 to me and Flores looks closer to 200 to me. I could definitely be wrong. This is what I have going off their roster on gmcsports.com. 7 senior starters

LT #9 DT Gabe Flores 6'0 190 SR
NG #72 Jonas Griffith 5'11 240 SR
RT #7 DT #7 Elijah Davis 6'2 260 SR
#0 DaVeon McCoy 6'1 194 (Edge rusher on passing downs)
OLB #11 #11 Jacob Asbeck 5'11 180 SR
LB #33 Grant Beerman 6'4 190 JR
LB #44 Micah Markley 6'1 215 JR
OLB #8 Cam Thomas 6'1 187 SO

CB #2 Bukari Miles 6'0 180 SR
S #3 Taebron Bennie-Powell 6'2 180 SR
S #20 Finn Mason 5'9 168 JR
CB #5 Drew Minich 6'2 180 SR
The Lakota West GMC roster is pretty outdated. They still have Flores listed as a LB which he hasn't played since his underclassmen days. The height and weight of these guys on the GMC roster is the initial one taken in their Freshman or Sophomore year when they cracked the varsity roster. It is not altered on the GMC website after. (For whatever reason).

With that, I don't know what you're basing how a player "looks" on...But I will tell you, Griffith looks like a monster in person and is definitely in the 290-300 range. Flores, he's probably 30-40lbs lighter than the other two but again, on the field he looks well over 200lbs. I follow all our guys on Twitter. He posted a picture of him on a scale a couple of months back that read 238 or 239, so we know that is not true.

My point is, they aren't the biggest D-Line unit in the world but they move extremely well. Flores AND Davis have great speed. Griffith is more of the anchor in the middle of the line. Flores and Davis will be playing Division 1 football in the fall next year, and Griffith has offers to play high-level D2 at the moment, if you think this is going to be a light matchup for Elder just because they're "bigger" you are mistaken.

Who is saying that? Nobody forgot last year’s playoff game.

The GMC roster is the only thing I could find. Someone posted a youtube video of one of their games. That's all I have to go off of. Davis and Griffith look big and strong. They are the anchor of the defense in stopping the run along with Flores. Elder's offensive line is pretty strong this year. It will be a good matchup to watch, Elder oline/fb/te vs. LW dline/LBs.

I have confidence Ramsey has a great offensive game plan and the players are going to execute it well. I still like Elder in a close one. I have confidence Elder's defensive front 7 will have a game also.

Agreed!

Shame Elder couldn't keep them out of the endzone there. Was West out of timeouts? I think most would have definitely taken a 14-10 halftime lead. OL has held up nicely. Elder has hit some nice throws already, going to need to hit a few more in the 2nd half too.

Defense has to tackle better. West's scheme isn't overly complicated but their backs run hard. Elder's done a great job limiting the big plays. Each team with only 3 possessions in the 1st half, Elder's 3rd being a knee to end the half. A TD to open the 3rd Qtr would be HUGE.

Feels like the first live ball turnover is going to be the deciding factor here. The turnover on downs for West loomed large as Elder was able to cash in on the short field.

If I had paid for this feed from Spectrum I'd be asking for my money back. Locking up continuously, no down and distance listed and they currently have the wrong quarter on the screen.

The biggest mistake was going away from the Quick game on the 1st drive of the 2nd half
What are you talking about? They ran 5 plays. Even the play that went for a 1st down wasn't 'quick.' They hit on a wheel, basically an out and up, same route as the 1st TD.

They even tried to throw on 1st down, Brass just had nowhere to go with the ball, held it late and threw in the flats for basically no gain.

Didn’t see it but seems like he really outcoached the F*** out of himself in the second half
Not really. West basically gave Elder their 2nd TD by going for it around their own 45. Elder still had to go down and score, converted a 4th and 15 to do so.

West is the better team. Elder was fortunate to hold them to 3 on the first drive and force the turnover on downs on the second. The next three times West had the ball they marched right down the field, a lot of the time running basic zones left and right. Truthfully it could have been a worse.

I mean throwing twice inside the 5 on that last drive seemed a little silly
I have to preface this by saying, I don’t know more than the coaches. I don’t want the usuals jumping down my throat. On 3rd & goal, I probably would’ve been more conservative, called the Draw and kicked the FG. But again, that has its own risks.

The Hitches & Sticks were open. And those easy completions helped get Brass in a rhythm. The first half looked very similar to Eds. The spread out the D and just to the short completions. That helped set up the run.

West is the better team, which is why when you’re Elder, you can strike out those 2 possessions in the 2nd qtr.
