Elder vs. Lakota West

The best two teams Lakota West has played ran the ball on them pretty effectively. West has not played anyone since their first two games of the season. Elder needs to ground and pound, suck the minutes out of the clock, and avoid giving up big plays on defense. I have Elder winning 21-13

But there’s no reason to bring pressure if you think your Corners can hold up in Man. It’s a completely unnecessary risk. You can rush 4 all game and get pressure if the Receivers can’t get open. That’s exactly what happened last yr

To sack Brass or force him into a poor read/throw.

But you can get pressure by playing strong coverage and rushing 4. The Elder OL is good, I’m not disparaging them, but eventually all protections breakdown when the QB is forced to hold on to the ball long enough.

They will throw a few at Elder, not every play obviously.

RPO or delayed Draws.

Not with LW speed on D line.

My point exactly.... if Elder can't get the passing game going against man coverage West will stack the box to put pressure on Brass and keep him from breaking any long QB runs. Elders offense isn't real difficult to figure out. The O line will have to play a great game for the Panthers to have a chance in this one.

The West runs a 3-4 similar to Elder. Their NG Griffith and DT Davis are not speed guys. They are big DL that will take up 2 blockers to free up their linebackers. Flores is more of a speed guy and they will send one or multiple LB/DB on blitzes.

If they bring another defender in the box, it would probably be one of their safeties Bennie-Powell or #20 Finn Mason. #20 does not have LB size. West will be in trouble if Elder can block the LBs and give Brass 3-4 yards a carry.

Guard play and FB will have to pick up next level defensive guys to create the openings

Well sounds like the Panthers should pack it in. Based on this board there's no chance.
I’m not stoked about it, but flat out, they don’t have the athletes to win this game. It’s going to be the exact same script as last yr, Elder will struggle to move the ball, and eventually West breaks a long play or 2 to score and keep the game out of reach.

It can be difficult when they don’t get hung up on running the QB all the time. But then again, they don’t have a run game outside of the QB.

I want to know what Mason did to limit the West Offense. They actually played West tough the last 2 years, they must be doing something right on that side of the ball.

Mason has a good defense, but their offense is bad.

How did St. X beat them then? It's simple. They block and tackle Elder will win.
West started a Freshman QB who threw 4 Ints. It’s not impossible for Elder to win this game but I’ve seen this scenario played out way too many times to feel confident in their chances.

Elder has to create turnovers to have a chance in this game. That means being more aggressive with the blitzes and forcing Wiles into a bad decision. If they sit back in zone, Wiles will hurt them on the ground.

I knew the freshman QB excuse was going to be your response. It's a legit excuse, and I called that on LW before the game. You get my point though. X is similar team to Elder this year and they beat West.

It’s not an excuse, it’s a reason. That’s why West benched him.

Offensively, Elder needs to get to the edge. The Power run bw the Tackles isn’t going to be there. Maybe they can get there through the quick game.

The edge will be tough with Asbeck and Thomas at OLB and then you have their fast corners coming up to make plays. The Schorsch vs. Davis matchup will be one to watch.

That’s the only way, you’re not going to beat them running bw the Tackles.

Running between the tackles will be a challenge because of Davis/Griffith/Flores. That's a lot of power they have upfront. This will also be the best offensive line that LW has seen. Elder needs to get it done upfront to have a chance.

Turned them over.

They can’t do it, they don’t have the size in the interior. They couldn’t get a push vs Chatard, they won’t do it vs West. They have to follow Mason’s game plan
