D7 R25 2024

Based on number of teams, and competition level I’d have to imagine we’re kicking a few teams to R28.

If all teams remain in D7 ( I don’t know about that) Danville, Dalton, Malvern, Toronto, SCC are current candidates.

It kind of feels like Lucas & St. Paul aren’t trying to land any whales and will stick with a staffer moving forward.

Will these be the only moves we see at the helm? THAT is an intriguing topic.

Does OHSAA get consumed by the state? Do we think the state is capable of running OHSAA and do we really think it means more money back to the schools where it belongs? Do we really want transfers to be investigated at the state level?

…and just what do we feel is the potential for transfers in/out to impact the region this year? I have a few questions about one I can think of…
Unless I'm missing something with your intent, but St. Paul already announced Livengood's replacement last week, and you're correct being an in-house hire.

Chris Doughty to replace.....

THE LEGEND!

JFK plays Lutheran West tonight so another tough test.............Hoban is still a good team, Hoban had some football players that aren't in basketball shape. Hoban game ended up being the right time of the year. I'm sure they will end a different team. Not taking anything away from the Eagles, Nico Ciminero had a career day. Refreshing when you can win meaningful games when other players step up their game. Ryan who is by far the best athlete and scorer was not himself and his teammates picked it up. Michael Condoleon is starting to find his rhythm and shot who can light up the 3 point line. Jaden Rishel is steady as the sun rises he will always have 15 points in the scoring column. Scary if this team gets hot for sure. No big man to speak of but Quinn Meola is scrappy around the rim and is willing to get his hands dirty. JFK has the talent and skill this year to compete with anyone otherwise named Richmond Heights. I watch the games on YSN Live and wish these young men the best.

I fixed it for you. You didn't bold them

I know the one you're thinking of. Would be surprised if it happened, but mannnn would that cause a stir LOL

Does OHSAA get consumed by the state? Yes. All things do in this form of government. Do we think the state is capable of running OHSAA? No. Do we really think it means more money back to the schools where it belongs? No. Do we really want transfers to be investigated at the state level? No.

I think Lutheran West's best player last year was a Junior (the PG)....that said, I would expect LW to win comfortably against JFK. Hoban is down, they lost a lot of big, heavy minute, roll players from last years team. They still have Greer and Nichols....but especially with the football guys just getting back, they're no where near the team they were last year. I expect them to be dangerous at the end of the season, but not like last year. Louisville is a really nice team and have been for the last few years - they're going to win a lot of games this year.

I think JFK does have a really nice team - and will be a competitor in the region (whichever one that ends up being)....but I don't see that 1 guy who can take over a game. But who knows, maybe that's a good thing!

Its a good win, no doubt. But right after that Hoban lost to Louisville by an even wider margin.
If the districts are still the same as last year Dalton & JFK should be a heckuva rematch
Wenger ain't walking through that door at Dalton. Dalton will be solid, but no where near what they have been with the Wenger boys on those teams.....

The state running High School sports is just such an awful idea. Nothing good comes of it.

As for transfers, lets all be honest with ourselves - whats happening on the college landscape is, and will trickle down. There is/should be zero difference between the college athlete and the HS one in terms of amateur status. It's going to be the wild west very soon, every team for themselves, get those transfers by any means necessary. And no penalties to the player for transfers. Only way to combat it, is stiffer adjustments for competitive balance.

We recently had the first ever NIL deal given to a HS aged kid (Darryn Peterson, CVCA-to-Huntington Prep). Rumored multi-million dollar deal with Adidas. This is just the beginning folks, it surely is not stopping here...

Since we're all here for the pages, I'll add this about NIL - I was a HUGE proponent of the original concept. When O'Bannon sued the NCAA it made me root for UCLA for the first time in my life.

Once the rulings were all handed down the NCAA lost their insane case ("these are amateurs who don't need to make any money while we make BILLIONS off of them) it seemed like the world was starting to turn toward a brighter future.

Then, the NCAA does what it's the best at and laid layer after layer of bureaucratic garbage on how NIL was to be administered. What does that give us? A college version of the NFL before the rookie salary cap where recruits are demanding money before they've even attended one class.

(Narrator - and with that the grumpy old fat man awkwardly crawled off the soap box

It totally sucks. Ruining college sports. Just not a thing we can do about it now....going to see the same stuff happening in HS sooner than later...Going to be some real slimy individuals in the HS sports scene before long I'm sure...

NIL, transfer portal, and covid have ruined college sports. Kids getting 6,7,8 years of college eligibility and transferring to 3,4 different schools is just absurd. I honestly don't have a problem with the kids getting paid but there needs to be some sort of guard rails. I just read that the University of Minnesota had to pay their QB $30,000 to not transfer because he is the only scholarship QB on the roster for the bowl game. That totally goes against the spirit of what college athletics should be. College football is at a tipping point. I predict massive changes coming.

I would have told that bum to kiss my a-- and ran wildcat the entire game.

Man, the 2024 schedules are already listed on other threads. Nothing like making my Friday fall plans before Christmas, lol.

Fairfield Christian bailed on us last week for a 2024 game with Federal Hocking. I guess you'd rather win 70-0 than lose.
Still bush league, not to honor the contract and bail on 1 of the 2 teams to beat you last year in the regular season for a team that hadn't played a varsity football game in 5 years.
They do have 3 All Ohio kids coming back.

I wish Amanda-Clearcreek was at their place. I'd so go watch that.

Federal Hocking isn't even ready for a varsity team yet. No one is a winner in that game.
