I think I’ve mentioned this before, but ever since my cancer diagnosis in 2021, I have been trying to go to one concert a month and have been pretty successful. I’ve shared some of the concerts in the past, now after 9 weeks of chemo and recovery I’m getting back at it. Here is my upcoming list.
7/24 If These Trees Could Talk, Grog Shop, Cleveland
8/13 Haunt/Savage Master, Westside Bowl, Youngstown
9/24 The Get Up Kids, Athenaeum Theatre, Columbus
11/23 Saves The Day/Senses Fail, House of Blues, Cleveland
Still looking for something for October, but potentially Drive By Truckers or GWAR 11/1.
Update
If These Trees Could Talk was excellent. The Grog Shop is one of my favorite places to see a show. Easy for me to get to and easy parking. Love the small clubs. Opener Sleepmakeswaves was from Australia and they are also excellent.
Haunt/Savage Master was also really good. This was one I went to on a whim, I knew Haunt, but really knew nothing about Savage Master. They have become one of my favorite bands after seeing them.
Added AJ Croce on 9/10 at Robins Theatre in Warren. Not really my type of thing, but a coworker had an extra ticket, that I didn't have to pay for. This was Croce plays Croce. AJ is Jim Croce's son and an accomplished musician on his own. He plays Jim Croce's songs, some of his, and some other covers. I really enjoyed this and it was nice to go to a concert and not have to wear ear plugs!
Also added High Desert Queen on 9/11 at Westside Bowl, Youngstown. High Desert Queen was touring on their way to Desert Fest in NY. Westside Bowl is only 15 minutes from were I live, so this was also on a whim. Small crowd but the bands really put on a good show. One of the openers, Rated Eye, from Pittsburgh was a cool little band with a great guitar player. High Desert Queen killed it, if you are into Stoner/Desert Rock they are excellent.
Upcoming
9/24 The Get Up Kids, Anthenaeum Theater, Columbus
10/7 KEN Mode/Hide, Westside Bowl, Youngstown
11/23 Saves the Day/Senses Fail, House of Blues, Cleveland
2/5 Tim Heidecker/Neil Hamburger, Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland
I will probably add a couple more Cleveland dates and a few Westside Bowl dates for sure. Thanks for listening!
