CMAC (Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference) looking to expand

I would hope everyone would complain about that. Just move the NCH home games to 9am Saturday and safety issues in the community will be averted
Here in Cleveland many of the city schools have to play their games early on Saturday. Glenville has to travel to most of their big matchups, and only plays the other city schools at home. It seems to work well here

Mike Dyer reporting that 4 schools have contacted the MVC about joining. Deer Park, FT who would be the other 2?

Mt. Healthy and Northwest might be the other two as they have no league. I could see maybe Archbishop McNicholas being interested too. Maybe a few of the CMAC Blue schools (Shroder, CCP) as well?

I just have a hard time believing the conference is moving to 18 team. I think this signals the private schools are leaving.

Makes sense to me. The private schools as their own 8 team league (6 football schools) works well, the CHL should let them join IMO, that’s a great fit to me, but CHL apparently wants nothing to do with Private schools.

As for the remaining 6 public schools, going to 10 teams would make life much easier for all athletic scheduling. Finneytown, Deer Park and some of the CMAC Blue teams would be a match made in Heaven of a league.

Aren't Mt. Healthy, Harrison, and Northwest (if they stay open) too big for the MVC? McNicholas? Too big but I can see where they would want to reduce travel and re-connect with P-M and Bacon. How about the three Catholic schools join the CMAC?

Harrison I don’t see trying to get into the MVC, not a good fit. Last I heard they are trying to get into the EIAC (Indiana conference). Apparently the ECC, GMC have turned them down.

Northwest and Mt. Healthy would be very very large schools in the MVC, and while they might do well in track, football and basketball, all sports wise it would be pretty competitive overall with the other MVC Public schools.. Northwest and Mt. Healthy do not field competitive teams often in the non revenue sports much like the MVC public schools (sometimes they don’t even field teams at all). For Football and basketball it might not work too great, but all other sports I see no issue with it. Overall though, CMAC Red would be better for NW/MH due to size, but those 2 might be avoiding the CMAC.

I proposed a 14 team CHL which saw Reading, Finneytown and Deer Park to the MVC, and McNicholas and the 8 MVC privates join the CHL

CHL Big:

CHCA
Indian Hill
McNicholas
Roger Bacon
Taylor
Wyoming

CHL Small:

Cincinnati Country Day
Maderia
Mariemont
Miami Valley Christian
Purcell Marian
Summit Country Day

Slot In Cincinnati Christian and Seven Hills somewhere.

I think this would work very well, but the CHL seems to have no interest in private schools.

Would there be any incentive for the CMAC Blue schools to stay in the league (for football) if even one school departs - yet alone two?

Maybe Shroder or Gamble could tough it out against the bigger schools but Dayton Christian and CCP probably wouldn't want to take that path.

Other than Withrow or Taft, what exactly would they be "toughing out?" Let's not act like the CMAC is a sports juggernaut.

Where else would Shroder or Gamble go? Who would want them and why?

I will give the CMAC Red credit, for a city league they are a lot better than most of the other ones at Football and Basketball, all other sports its a hot mess just like the other city leagues. CMAC blue is a different story, all around it is really bad, and with the MVC existing there is just no way they will ever expand.

I have to think that the MVC (after the privates break off) would take Finneytown and Deer Park to get to 8, and maybe there's a chance they try to get to 10 or 12, which then could open the door for football only affiliations for the CMAC Blue teams, which would be a solid fit. Even then, there's still some IMO under the radar candidates that could put their name into the MVC hat and would be better options potentially.

Shroder and Gamble have lower program floors/ceilings compared to their counterparts in the CMAC.

Not to say that they couldn't consistently compete in the CMAC, but it may not be their first preference compared to joining a much more level (all-public) MVC.

Shroder and Gamble would both be great candidates for the MVC as their enrollments are steady, their locations are convenient, and their athletic profiles mesh well with the other public schools.

Dayton Christian is joining the Southwestern pool Buckeye Conference in the 2025-2026 school year, so that takes them out of the picture. Middletown Christian could have been one of the 4 interested teams.

An issue with an 8 team private school MVC conference is the division differences. The teams range from (football)D4 to D6. It’s similar in baseball and basketball. Not much competitive balance there. I would think CHCA would be pretty dominant in the major sports(football and baseball), while it would be a toss up between Summit and CHCA in basketball. In the minor sports(tennis, swimming, soccer, lacrosse) CCD and Seven Hills would fair very well.

On a side note, MVCA is adding new sports. Golf last year, tennis this year and soccer next. Let’s just say it’s not an easy transition going against some of the better teams in the state as a brand new team.

Middletown Christian also popped into my head when I heard 4 applied. I could see Gamble Montessori as well since Clark is already in the MVC.

Does anyone know when the decision will be made for CMAC expansion? Time line for joining?
I don't think they know. CPS just announced that they will continue DEI initiatives against orders from the Trump administration and is in danger of losing federal funding, which is almost 25% of it's total budget.

While federal education dollars cannot be used for athletics, CPS has way bigger issues than worrying about expanding their athletic conference coming up.

The CHL will never take private schools

McNick will never leave the GCLC, even though they have to travel to dayton every game. Them staying, and RB and PM escaping to MVC will permanently keep McNick as the "big brother" co-ed school in the city.

I agree, they left behind the GCLC for the MVC for a reason.

Finneytown released their 2025 football schedule on social media a few days ago and it was a regular CHL schedule for weeks 4-10.

It appears as if any conference change won't happen until 26/27 at the earliest.
