Cleveland Guardians

This is actually a very winnable game right now. C'mon Guardians get it going! It's a million degrees in LA and it looks like only about 10 thousand fans are there-time to take one from the Dodgers.

It's not going to be winnable much longer the way Bibee is struggling this inning. 1 run in bases loaded 1 out. Need a DP ball.

Good job by Bibee limiting the damage to 1 run after giving up the lead-off triple and loading the bases with 1 out. Need the bats to wake up.

The way Flaherty is pitching it's going to take some work to get anything going.

Yes sir. He's only gotten stronger as the game has gone on. I don't see the Guardians getting anything going off him. IMO the Guards' only hope is that the Dodgers take Flaherty out after 7 and they can get to the LA pen in the 8th and 9th.

I have to give Bibee some props on his performance though. He was struggling with his control a bit from the outset which caused him to throw a lot of pitches and the game starting time temp was 103 degrees. With that he only gave up two runs. The Guards just have not been able to do anything with Flaherty. Which is a shame because the Yankees and Orioles both lost and KC swept the Twins.

Regarding the Underwood/Manning chit-chat about Dodger Stadium.

We've been there a few times. It is a fantastic place to catch a game. The pep music is LOUD, and the Scoreboard Video/Music between innings can be a show in itself. They keep the crowd engaged. Might even get a wack at the 3 or 4 beach balls that seem to be bouncing around the place for 9 innings. The fans have fun, and they sure do Love 'em some Dodgers!

There is one way in and one way out. There are no side streets, residential/commercial areas, or anything like that. You park at Dodger Stadium, in their parking lot.......and it is HUGE.

I was last there 2 years ago. Parking was $50.

When we're out there during baseball season we also take in an Angels game. Cool stadium........and I think that the nicest people in SoCal work there. BTW, Parking is $13. :)

2.5 game lead. 3 games at the sorry White Sox. KC plays 3 in Yankee Stadium. We all know this looks good for the Guards, but they need to take care of business in Chitown. And root for the Yankees (gross).

I hate rooting for the Yankees but it is a necessary evil right now. The ChiSox have played the Guardians tough this year including winning 3 of 4 the last time Cleveland was in Chicago and the season series stands at 5-5. The Guards' magic number to win the division is still at 17. They have to take advantage of this match-up and hope the Yankees beat KC. It was reported earlier that Ben Lively was supposed to start, although his last two starts were not the best, but MLB.com is showing Joey Cantillo as the Guards' starter tonight. He is 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA. This would be a very good time for him to get his first win. Of course it would help if they scored a few runs for him.

Due to the tiebreaker, it’s just a thin 1.5 game lead over KC. If there was ever a time to make hay against a bad team it’s now. Sweep the ChiSox. Tampa Bay comes in for four and they are kind of hot. That worries me a little.

At this point every team left on the schedule is worrying me.

The Guardians have a 3-game lead over the Royals in the loss column but figuring the tiebreaker in KC's favor Cleveland can only afford to lose 2 more games than the Royals the rest of the way to finish one game in front of them.

After this series with Chicago the Guardians have 13 of the last 16 games at home where they still have the best record in the AL. KC only has 6 games left at home and 12 on the road where they are 1 game under .500. Hopefully those trends continue but I do think the Guardians overall remaining schedule may be a little bit tougher than the Royals' schedule. We shall see.

It's 5-0 now, but it should be about 18-0 with all the runners left on base tonight. I know, some people are never happy!

And that may come back to bite them in the hindquarters as it is now 5-3 with nobody out in the 8th. I think Vogt may need to bring in one of the big guns to finish this inning. Do not waste that great performance by Joey Cantillo. Plus the Yankees beat KC. Guardians need to win this game.

That game was a lot closer than it should have been but I'll take it, 5-3. Guardians up their lead to 3.5 games over KC and their magic number drops to 15. Mr. Cantillo wins his first ML game in outstanding fashion. He was great tonight. Go out and win the series tomorrow guys.

I’m off on Wednesday and strongly considering attending the day game and hopefully seeing the sweep in Chitown.

Fat lady getting close. Twins are essentially done in the division. Could put nail in their hopes next week.

Royals getting close. 17 games left for them, a8 for us. If my math is right, even if they went 12-5, Guards going a very reasonable 10-8 still is not enough for Royals to catch us. Add any more on the lead vs Sox and rays this week, very possible next 2 with Royals vs yanks, it is probably over and play for home field. That last weekend is probably going to be important, and I'll take it

You're right. Forgot about tiebreaker, my math is off by 1. If Guards can go 11-7, KC really has to end season smoking. Yanks could really help that next 2 games

Since Cleveland picked up a game on KC last night if the Guardians were to finish 11-7 KC would have to go 14-3 to win the division. If the Guards just finish 9-9 KC has to go 12-5 to win the Central. I would really like to see the Guards sweep Chicago and the Yankees do the same to KC. That would give the Guardians a 5.5 game lead with 16 to play and their magic number would be 11. If that happens the Guardians would have to almost pull a 1964 Phillies to lose the division.

Hoping Ben Lively's OK with the liner off the thigh tonight. Will have to see. Gotta say, Cade Smith has been a great addition to the bullpen. Hoping to get the win tonight.

KC beat the Yankees but as long as the Guardians win tonight there is some good news in that. If Cleveland holds on to win they will tie the Yankees for the best record in the AL, although NY does hold the tie-breaker. Also with a win the Guards' magic number will drop to 14.

The Guardians did indeed hold on to win, 5-0. An outstanding job by the bullpen with 7 innings of 4-hit shutout ball following Mr. Lively's early departure after getting hit by that line drive. It has been reported that he suffered a right thigh contusion. Hopefully it is no worse than that.

Matt Boyd on the hill going for the sweep tomorrow afternoon.

Boy, that KC/Yankees thing is tough. It’s like rooting for gonorrhea or syphillis. You lose either way. I want to pass up the Yankees and put some distance between CLE and KC, but we can’t have both. The one thing CLE can do, though, is sweep the ChiSox tomorrow and come home to beat the Rays.

I guess we have to look at it this way. The Guardians have a 3.5 game lead over KC in the standings, 4 games in the loss column, and they control their own destiny as far as the Central division is concerned. As long as Cleveland takes care of business they should stay in front of KC and win the division. Whether or not they can pass the Yankees is not really in their control so getting help with that is not a bad thing, even if it comes from KC. Personally I'm hoping that Baltimore wins the East as the Guardians have the tie-breaker over them in case of a tie for the #1 seed. However, first things first, go out and get the sweep today guys.

Guardians take a 2-0 lead in the first when, thanks to outstanding hustle by Josie, Lane Thomas drives in 2 runs with an infield single. Kwan was on 3rd with Josie on 2nd base. Kwan scored and Jose never stopped running when the 3B tried to get Thomas at 1B and scored right behind Kwan.

It just happened again in the 3rd inning! Lane Thomas gets two more RBIs on an infield hit when Kwan and Gimenez score. This time the 2B made a good diving stop but couldn't get Thomas at 1B and the 1B did throw home but Gimenez beat the throw after Kwan scored. Unbelievable. Hedges led off the inning with a HR so the Guards now lead 5-0.

Jose always hustles. He plays the game like Pete Rose.

Lane Thomas is playing like the guy I wanted the Guardians to trade for at the trade deadline last season.
