Bearcats hading to a power conference are likely to add a few Olympic sports. Wrestling is a HUGE sport in the big12, as well as the Ohio high school level. Would be a perfect match as well as a tremendous opportunity for Ohio wrestlers. Anybody smarter or better connected than me have any idea if it’s being considered? Or how we could start a letter writing campaign to promote this idea to benefit our student athletes?

Sure, a nice size endowment would open a quick greet and meet. The Spatola Classic is all UC is giving us.

Hello! We currently have a club team that the school just allowed us to start back up this year due to COVID and we have been trying to explore how we can become more "official" in the eyes of the school to show how great of an opportunity adding wrestling would be. Our Hockey team is technically a club team as well but has grown to draw a ton of attention from the school and fanbase alike and have provided a great example of how the wrestling team can do so as well but with that being said they've had much more time to grow. Currently we don't have much support from higher ups and struggle with funding for singlets, uniforms, tournament fees, etc... and are trying our best to figure out sustainable solutions for the future of the team as the costs add up quickly. Luckily, the people at Spatola's have been incredibly supportive of our mission and have helped as much as they can with practices and general advice within this past year. I believe we are to the point where we need to start planning for next year and are open to anyone helping us prove ourselves and the sport to the school.

I'm no expert, I'm asking because I have no idea, but would UC adding men's wrestling have any negative Title IX implications for the university?

I wish UC had Wrestling. I don’t think it is even being considered. Didn’t UC cut Men’s Soccer in last few years? UC would have to add a Women’s Sport if they added a Men’s? You could send a letter and a large check. That be a Great way to start a campaign for Wrestling. I personally think UC Athletics is going to struggle for long time in the Big12. Mr. Sheakley(?) and Mr. Wyler have and give UC tons of money but there are many Oil Tycoons that support many Big12 Schools. Not sure if the 2 local guys can compete with Oil Tycoons financially.

If you are looking to become more official you should register with the NCWA (National Collegiate Wrestling Association) next season. If you don't, you won't be able to compete in anything other than opens. As the Commissioner of the NCWA Great Lakes Conference I can guide you through the process of doing so. Please PM me if you are interested.

This is awesome.

Also if there is a team store or something where money goes back to the program, or another way to donate, please post.

I wrestled for Toledo (Hence the name) , i attempted to get a club started with the ncwa at Rhodes / OSU Lima but it was too much of an undertaking. I got with the former coach and wrestler when i arrived at toledo and we sent flyers out and ended up finishing pretty high at nationals that year.

Since then, Bryan Knepper has taken the program over and they are doing extremely well. I don't have his contact information but maybe look him on FB for some help. I wrestled several kids from Cinci while i was at toledo, so there should be something on file for them. (I even wrestled one of them at nationals in Dallas that year) so i know they were pretty involved. Since then, its hard telling. I know we originally paid to play somewhat, but our school was pretty supportive and there was fund for club sports.
We pretty much just had to do paperwork and show them what we were doing and they actually took the tab to fly me and 2 others to dallas and pay most of our trip. I think now alot of the $ comes from donations and sponsors. It's hard work but if you really want to do it, worth it.
I believe if you wrestle a certain number if years it does effect your ncaa eligibility years just fyi, if you possibly will transfer.

let me know if you have any further questions.
