CHL 2024/2025 preview/season thread

Finneytown has a head coach vacancy as Tatum has left the program to become an assistant offensive line coach at Moeller.

Hopefully they can find someone that can get players out and help build a middle school program. With no middle school team last year and very thin numbers on varsity it seems they are in danger of not fielding a team in the near future if someone can't turn things around.

IH 8th grade class was just decimated by St X and Moeller. IH will have less than five freshman next year.
They tried to stop the bleeding, but seems like they can't figure it out. I really wonder what happens at the middle school there that turns kids off from the high school.

That will be a very, very bad football team. Why would Devlan risk injury and professional baseball career for a bad team.
They had a solid Junior class last year that should be able to maintain a winning record in the CHL. It could be tough after that group graduates though if they can't get guys to stay and continue playing. It could be tough to field a JV team if they can't get 10+ freshmen out.

agree with that sentiment. If Devlan doesn't play I think the workload would go to Evan Riggs.

Is Rodenberg staying if Devlan focuses on baseball?
Depends what his goals are? IH won't have a team as good as last year's for awhile. It looks like Wyoming is back on top of CHL for awhile. If he is okay competing for second place in the CHL and winning a first round playoff game it's not a bad gig. If he wants to win big he has a couple winning seasons, now might be the time to jump ship.

once this junior class leaves, there is nothing left and the current 7th grade class is all going to send their kids to X/Moeller as well.

I heard rumors that DD may be moved to QB?? I guess time will tell.

A kid that's rushed for 3700+ yds and 50 TD's in just 2 years I find it hard he just gives it up to focus on another sport.
He gave Basketball up to run indoor track/lift/get ready for baseball.

He has 2 D1 football offers Miami (Oh) and BGSU

I would imagine come June 15th that # rises , as well as the amount of baseball offers he gets too.

DD to Moeller? Anyone else hearing that?

7th grade class is full of Indian Hill guys. Several younger brothers of IH players and they have been a tight group since they were young. I don't think a large number of them are going anywhere.

3 CHL players will be representing the conference and their schools in the OHSFCA North South Classic All-Star game in Massillon on April 26th. Hopewell (Madeira WR), Rummer (Wyoming K/P), Steimle (Finneytown OL). Former Finneytown HC Tatum serving as the HC for the DIV-DVII South team.

I dont know if I just hand the CHL back over to Wyoming

They are out of the Prater/Hester/Hancock days for awhile. their program doesn't have a kid like that in it currently.

Huff and Hamilton most likely take over in the back field for the cowboys. those 2 were combined for 59 carries and 213 yds in the 4+ weeks Hancock missed. That was against IH, FT, Shroder and Alter.

Wyoming will change focus to a "pass first" team for 2025 IMO.

Thanks for the update. Steimle signed with D2 University of Findlay last week.

Who do you think can challenge them? IH graduated most of their linemen and lost Cole, I don't see them having a great year. How does Taylor look for the next 2-3 years? Madeira seems to have some good stuff going.

I'm sure DD and IH will have something to say about it. 3700+ yds and 50 TD's isnt going to be easy to stop for anyone in the CHL

Taylor loses some on D and a few O-linemen. Most of their Offensive skilled guys return. plus both starting tackles on Oline.

Saw in St X thread that IH sophmore Jackson Frey is going to X? Is that true?
He is a Junior i thought? Transferring for his senior year seems odd?
He is another football/LaX kid so maybe that makes sense?

For what its worth he is on the 2025 Max Preps Indian hill LaX roster?

Not sure how much of this thread is accurate, but what a shame that area players are transferring so often to higher profile programs.

This is now commonplace at the NCAA level and it seems it has quickly trickled down to local high schools.

Their 6th grade group has a lot of IH kids who I think will stick around w/ the program as well. Could be just a bad class and ultimately, considering who else in the league, it may not matter much as the kids get older. If you can keep 2-3 good kids from that class supplemented with 5-6 good kids from other classes, that will be enough to beat everyone in the CHL on a yearly basis not named Wyoming. Now, if this year's 7th grade group has a bit of an exodus next year and you lose back to back classes - then it's probably time to sound the alarm. What I have heard regarding this year's 8th graders, a large majority had bad attitudes and weren't all-in with the program anyway so could very well be addition by subtraction.

FOMO - Everyone trying to be noticed and get that leg up. Same reason there's millions of dollars in club sports and personal training. Parents shell out $5-6k-plus for their kids to have access to those things. Why not spend an additional $5-6 to go to Moeller, X, MND, etc to help get noticed???? If anywhere has the people to do it, it's definitely IH

Jaxon Frye is not leaving IH. Jackson Frey is a kid from Columbus.

I think for some they don't feel like they're being pushed in their current situations. No one wants to be a star on a terrible team. Some are flat out delusional and think they're better than what they really are. Some just leave because the school isn't a good fit for them anymore. As Fun2Bme pointed out, some are looking for a leg up, which is needed these days because colleges aren't really recruiting high school kids like that unless they are studs, so you have to try and find a way to stand out and be seen if college sports are your goal.
