for anyone curious (that doesn's follow basketball) we have a BBall thread in the boys section

I also do a Girls CHL thread as well

Pretty simple… if a few exceptional players are headed for one of those small schools they get rerouted to St. X, Elder, Moeller, LaSalle, etc., etc., etc., There are no big time private schools to siphon off the talent out in the farmland.
The lack in privates but also, few distractions & NO SOCCER. Coldwater offers 2 fall sports - Football and Cross Country. They do have open enrollment in the MAC so the usual contenders do pluck some neighboring districts' kids for the opportunity to win a state title but it's Faith, Family, Football, Farming. The work ethic of those kids is MUCH better, they don't have Kings Island or Downtown Cincinnati or hell, even a skyzone or trampoline park most likely, and they are built like kids who grow up working on a farm.

Looks to me like Glenville's gonna be pickin' up another trophy--and not really sweatin' to do it...

Meanwhile, why are Cincinnati area Division 3-7 teams SOOOOO non-competitive... it's embarrassing how badly they do in the playoffs (other than the odd year when Wyo represents well)-- if they even get far enough to play a good team... Cincy teams in 4, 6, and 7 just got demolished this week-- and I don't think Cincy even had a team representing in 3 and 5...
Glenville is basically the Cleveland version of CAPE which I said is what Taft, little by little is becoming or at least trying to become. As long as the powers that be stay at Taft, I expect them within the next 5-7 years to be competing on a similar level as Glenville and CAPE back in the 80's and 90's

CPS model benefits them tp pulling in kids within one of the largest school districts in the state.

When I coached at Aiken I had kids from Downtown to Kennedy Heights and every where in between.

Taft is getting the best of the best out of that pool of kids. They do for just about every sport. Do some go to other schools yes, but Taft has some dudes!

their football team has one of the best young coaches in the area.
Basketball has the tradition in the past decade + of winning

I do wonder how the future restructure of the schools and trying to keep kids grouped closer to their respective neighborhoods will impact CPS sports in the future. Like will the talent start to be spread out and make all the schools a little more competitive? Will be interesting to see.

Before this year's round 2 loss, Wyoming's earliest departures from the playoffs since 2016 were in the regional semi-finals (round 3). In that 8-year span they've won state in '18, were runners-up in '22, state semi-finalists/round 4 in '20, regional finalists in '19 and '23, and regional semi-finalists/round 3 in '16, '17, and '21. So, I don't know that it's quite fair to say it's the "odd year" when Wyoming "represents well." This year was a disappointing end for a then 11-0 team, to be sure. But it's selling both Wyoming and the CHL they've represented short by saying it's only the "odd year" Wyoming has represented the CHL deep into the playoffs.

That's fair-- to Wyomiing... but the rest of the league has just been abysmal.

I am just not sure why some people have to be so negative all of the time! Nothing the CHL teams do is good enough. First "IH lost to a mediocre Harrison team", Harrison was a good team this year. But a team like Massie who doesn't play in a league that is as good as the CHL gets so much praise! But when IH beats them, you say the CHL other than Wyoming has been "ABYSMAL" ! Taylor has a great year and beats VV who has been getting so much praise and talk about how they would run the CHL, but Taylor is still ABYSMAL? Yes Taylor lost a good game to Alter who dismantled Wyoming but they are ABYSMAL? IH lost to Taft who destroyed Alter earlier this year and again, they are ABYSMAL? I am just saying, it's all negative! Can we say the CHL was not very strong up and down, of course, but it's rare that it is. Usually 3-4 teams chasing the top and this year there were 3 teams chasing the top going into week 8. Madeira had a few big wins out of the league as well. I mean I hear so much praise for Batavia and Massie but they lost to the 3rd and 4th place teams in the CHL. I love the differences of opinions but come on guy, you need to really check yourself because it makes no sense! It's purely the HATER in you!

won the region in 19, lost in final 4 to eventual state champ (clyde). also won the region in 20, lost in final 4 to eventual state champ (van wert).

agree that taylor's win against VV and IH's win against massie were bigtime. wyo took a playoff L, but beat taylor and IH in reg season. good year for the CHL.

CHL definitely represented well in R16. IH and Taylor both had big wins over traditional powers. It will be interesting to see how Taft competes in the final 4. They have some size and some great athletes. IH had chances to beat them because they made mistakes, but their athleticism was impressive.

CHL soccer went 72-24-7 out of conference including a 19-6 record in the tournament, with a state title for IH. Every team in the league had a winning non-conference record, even Reading. I didn't notice any lack of work ethic.

WTF????

Someone missed the mark thinking we're talking about soccer on a football thread....SMH

CHL well represented with 13 all-state players, including 4 DIV and 1 DV 1st teamers. DIV 1st teamers include McFarland (Taylor WR), Daniel (IH RB), Hancock (WYO RB/DB), Rummer (WYO K/P). Hopewell (Madeira WR) 1st team in D5.

So it's only football players that get distracted by Kings Island and the trampoline parks?
I'm sure if the MAC supported soccer, they'd be just as dominant in that as they are in just about every sport.

Ethan Cole transferred to St. X. He’s starting there on Monday when they go back to school. Sichel is the guy moving forward, unless someone else emerges.
