CHL 2024/2025 preview/season thread

I will say from seeing DD in 1 game each of the past 2 years and watching him play 3-4 baseball games.

He is built like a D1 athlete. His speed athleticism and overall IQ is much higher than anyone else in the CHL. His jump cuts and acceleration has power 5 offers written all over it.

Don't know what route the kid takes but the clock will be ticking once he gets to junior year on what route he is gonna take.

I wonder if he has any accomplished athletes in his family?

what is your assessment of his overall effort level on the field?
Well being how it's only 1 game a year I've seen him in football I'm assessing from just that.

He has gears that when he needs to accelerate he goes to it.

He was GASSED at the end of the game but his effort was still there. I will say there were a few IH kids who visibly were pissed/upset (body language always tells a story more than words or actions) I could tell DD was pissed. But he wasn't "showing" it with his body language.

I think he needed to touch the ball 10-12 more times IMO and the play calling didn't allow for it but if he had to im sure he would have

Was asking about McFarland's effort level, was surprised that Taylor does not find more ways to get him the ball.

Oh you replied back from a DD reply so I assumed u were talking about him.

McFarland doesn't come off the field.

They line him up on wild cat and in the back field all the time. Doesn't always get it when he is in the back field. But they do have plays designed for that.

Deer Park will get Either Coldwater or Cincinnati Country Day, and I think we all know who they rather play.
The team that just got beat 35-0 in week 10 right??? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

How good the MAC is is hard to wrap your brain around. Marion Local beat Coldwater 35-0 to set the new state record for most consecutive wins at 58. Until that game, Coldwater was 9-0 and only played 1 close game which was Minster (only 2 losses are Coldwater and Marion Local). You could pull a bottom-feeder MAC team and they would be a 8-9 win CHL team playing a traditional CHL schedule and I'm pretty sure the usual cream of the crop (Marion Local & Coldwater) would beat majority of the D2 schools in the state, despite being the approximate size of Deer Park and Lockland. I get they don't have soccer and if you're a boy in the fall, it's band, cross country, or football but to have a school that size, with limited numbers to choose from and be that dominant on a yearly basis, it's truly a special area for football.

WK 11

Wyoming vs Shroder- wyoming will be too much even w/out Hancock. dupee has a big day. Cowboys 44-12

Taylor vs Urbana - on paper these 2 match up very closely to one another. Both have good Passing attacks
Urbana QB Lantz (Sophomore as well) 2100+ passing yds 21TD , also 400+ rush yds So seems to be pretty athletic/moves well outside of the pocket. their leading Teepe is a big kid 6'3 180lb has 800+ and 6TD. I would give the passing edge to Urbana , rushing edge to Taylor. Should be a good game. Jackets will have a big crowd. Im taking Taylor in a high scoring one 34-26

IH vs Northridge - If rodenberg sticks to the DD right and DD left game plan IH should win this one easily. 34-18

DP vs CCD- CCD just too much for the park. May be a close 1st half. but CCD wins 44-12

Madeira vs Williamburg- Madeira passing attack has faired well outside of the CHL and thats about it. I think it may be closer than most think but Burg gets em. 38-24

Not sure if you're kidding or not, but I was referring to that they rather play CCD over Coldwater, I agree on the MAC. Marion Local, Minster and Coldwater are all legit and ML might shut out every playoff team they play this year. I mean Coldwater beat CM 31-15 and it was 31-0 at halftime, and CM is one of the favorites to make it out of D4 R16.

Wyoming vs. Shroder- Wyoming should be able to end this one early and can start looking ahead to round 2. Wyoming 42-6

Taylor vs. Urbana- This one will be super fun, and probably the best 1st round game in the CHL. I think Taylor wins a thriller! Taylor 38-37

Indian Hill vs. Northridge- I don't know how but IH got an extremely lucky draw on the first round, and they better take advantage of it. Congrats to Northridge though on a great season, but you got screwed with this one. IH should win big, and they need to put this one away fast and get starters pulled early, because next week you will be traveling to Clinton County and taking on the Clinton-Massie Falcons, and you're going to need to be at full strength if you want to make it out of that game. IH 38-10

Deer Park vs. CCD- You know, this one has a chance to be very close, and I would not count out DP in this one. CCD has had a few questionable games, and they certainly have some weakness on the defensive side of the ball, and this Deer Park team I think is better than their 4-6 record. Call me crazy, but I got CCD on potential upset watch, but I think they will pull away in Q4 and get a win. Go give them everything you got Deer Park! CCD 34-24

Maderia vs. Williamsburg- Maderia can definitely win this game, but will they? If so, they are going to have to step up on defense and get some stops. Also, they need to step up on offense and not fall flat, because Burg can put up some points. I think this is one of the better games in D5 R20 myself and I think this one will come down to the wire, but Burg will get a close win. Burg 32-28

Any inside info from the league meeting?
I have no inside insights, but last year I think the coaches agreed to hold off on announcing who was named all-conference, etc., until after the last team was eliminated from the playoffs. Some teams went ahead and started publicizing earlier, but some waited until the last team (Wyoming) was eliminated, or really close to it, before sharing who was recognized for what. So not sure if they'll publicize awards/recognition right away for football.

Definitely kidding LOL. I remember when we played Coldwater in 2018 - Cal tried saying they didn't look good on film and he thought we'd win. We were watching their game week 10 against ML which they lost in OT and ML ended up losing in the state finals. Cal had no understanding or knowledge of MAC football LOL.

Marion Local has outscored opponents 463-22 this year. They haven't given up a point since September 20 and I agree, they may go through the playoffs unscored on. I know Wyoming had the state team back in the 60's/70's that was similar to this but I don't remember what the final end of season stat line for points and points allowed was. Any Wyoming folks care to update? Not sure about state-wide but ML's season this year and that Wyoming team might be the two best seasons in OHSAA history.

Wasn’t that Wyoming season prior to football playoffs? The team I think you’re referring to did not give up any points all season.

You have it pretty much right-- that 1962 Bob Lewis-coached Wyoming team was unbeaten-- and unscored upon... It's obviously a different era now-- fewer kids playing football (as a percentage of the total student population), playoffs, etc... so, the usual platitude that it's hard to compare those two teams (1962 Wyoming and 2024 Marion Local) applies-- I will say this: I didn't see that Wyoming team play-- but I know it was dominant...

The differentiator (for me) is the level of competition that Marion Local is facing-- ML is a Division 6 or 7 school (depending on the year, but usually 7), beating the snot out of its league rivals who (generally) range between Division 4-6 (e.g.- Coldwater is Division 5 this year)-- and those teams are amongst the very BEST in the state in their respective divisions-- Coldwater may well win the state title in Division 5-- and (it was reported above) ML beat them 35-0... other teams in that league have been dominant for decades (and have NUMEROUS state titles to prove it)-- Versailles, Delphos St. John's, even Minster and Anna have won recent state titles-- and ML is just steamrolling them this year... If Mariemont (or Lockland!), at their current enrollment, started cleaning Wyoming and Indian Hill's clock, annually, it would just start to approach the level of what ML is accomplishing...

Conversely, as good as that 1962 Wyoming team was-- they were facing relatively tame competition-- the Millcreek Valley Interscholastic League (later the Hamilton County Suburban League- National Division, now the Cincinnati Hills League) was never a great football league-- I don't think a single team from those leagues (other than Wyoming) has ever won the state title in football-- whereas almost EVERY team in ML's MAC has won the state title in football-- some of them close to 10 times! I don't have Wyoming's schedule from that season-- but I'm betting that the MVIL members (in 1962) then included some combination of Reading, Lockland, Greenhills, St. Bernard, Finneytown, North College Hill, and (maybe) Deer Park... Not a really good football program among them-- although Greenhills was usually decent, and Reading has had its moments... but NO state title contenders of the kind that ML faces almost weekly in the MAC...

Bottom Line: I'd say this year's ML team's accomplishment would probably be more impressive than Wyoming's 1962 team's, if ML ends up being undefeated state champions.
