The subject of the all-time boys' long jump list came up in a recent email of mine. I thought I'd put this little snippet out from my growing database (still in progress) of 24' 0" jumps/jumpers throughout the years. Attached are the 5 athletes that I know of that have cleared 24' 11" or better, with Darby's Alex Smith having becoming the newest with his 24' 11 1/2" win at the OCC-Cardinal last Wednesday.

Note: The list contains 7 marks, none of which has an wind information about them, but 4 of them were recognized by either OHSAA or T&F News as legal jumps. Both have required some sort of paperwork to back up legalities in the past. However, I leave you to make your own conclusions. I know for a fact that Johnson's state record in '96 used a wind gauge (I was there, but did not witness the jump). Unfortunately, until about the 1998-2000 time frame, OHSAA did NOT publish wind information other than there on the floor of Ohio Stadium or at the booth at Welcome Stadium.

Enjoy.
