Bloomberg to spend $100M on anti-Trump ads in battleground states

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to drop $100 million on anti-Trump ads in key swing states during the 2020 election.

The digital ad campaign will focus on Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, four states Democrats are eager to flip into their column next year, and will run starting Friday through the end of the primary season. The ads will not feature Bloomberg himself.

“Mike isn’t waiting to take on the President, he's starting now. This is all hands on deck,” Bloomberg spokesman Jason Schechter told The Hill.

Could pay me 1/100th of that and I’d build him a bot network that is much more effective
Clearly, money doesn't matter. You just need to get the Russians on your side because they are social media geniuses. One Russian with a computer and internet access is far more dangerous than an American billionaire.

If he hasn't officially declared and filed the necessary paperwork to run, is he allowed to spend that large sum on political ads? Wouldn't that be considered donations?
Admittedly I don't know much about campaign finance laws.

There aren't any...anymore Citizens United.

Now that Bloomberg is done....

Hemingway pointed out how Bloomberg’s failed campaign, despite unlimited resources, pokes holes in the popular narrative that Russia helped Donald Trump “steal” the 2016 election.

“We had years where people were saying a couple hundred thousand dollars in barely literate Facebook ads from Russians caused Donald Trump to win. Here you had a guy spend nearly $1 billion and he went nowhere..."

The article you posted is about changes in alleged interference in 2020, it doesn’t have anything do do with 2016.
The Russian data operation never stopped. They have continued to work Facebook's algorithms to maximize the impact and create division and anger among targeted groups of voter profiles.

Also, the Trump campaign never stopped...he has been using Facebook, rallies and campaigning since his first day in office. It is not a surprise that Right Wing Media and Russian data ops are basically pedaling the same news and working in tandem to amplify.

So, in your opinion, Russia knows how to work the Facebook algorithms with hundreds of thousands of dollars (in English) better than Michael Bloomberg could with an overwhelmingly larger budget?

No Bloomberg lost due his debate performance. Liz skewered him and he did not live up to his FB profile on live TV. It was highly effective. Also, it is a different audience.

When does Mini-Mike get his ego under control ........after squandering $1 billion; $2 billion; $10 billion?

A little off-topic, but saw an Elizabeth Warren ad on TV sometime on Wednesday. Wonder how much $ she blew between Super Tuesday and whenever she formally dropped out.

Will be interesting to see if we start seeing Biden/Sanders ads on TV. Other than that one Warren ad, I only recall seeing a ton of Bloomberg and some Steyer to this point.

Right now they're both running ads in Florida where they use recordings of Obama referring to each of them as if they've done something, doesn't change the facts though - they haven't, even as a group.

Short answer (translated) - "Yes, you are correct".
