Listen chief. You asked why things are struggling at OG. I gave you reason. And now you are arguing with me. I don’t know where you are from and really don’t care, but when you take a generalization athlete away from a small rural school team it doesn’t matter what sport it is. It is going to negatively affect it
You’re not completely wrong but there are 22 positions and we aren’t even talking about Craft not playing QB for Liberty Benton, we’re talking about a WR. Even if he played and teams had to double him every play I still don’t think OG would suddenly be 7-3 or better this year. If you think he’d have switched to playing QB then maybe I’ll buy it a little.

Look at their scores from last year. All but 2 of them were 2 score games. Not to mention all but 1 game was against schools at least one division up

You’re right, last year they were close and could’ve been successful with a little more offense that White could’ve provided…this year on the other hand, what’s going on with the defense?

Biggest surprise- we are only 5 weeks into the season and Marion Local has given up an eye popping 47 points.

Not sure if all those were on defense? Certain at least some were on special teams point after attempts. But still 47 points?
D7 isn’t even real football. Congrats on beating up on districts that should be forced to consolidate.

I'm surprised that:
1. Pickerington Central is lil' brother to Pickerington North this year. I don't read much regarding Central Ohio so I didn't know there was a shift in talent/coaching in the city.
2. Norton is ranked #5 in DIII. The Panthers having a decent football team still doesn't compute with me.
3. Canton Central Catholic is 3-2 after defeating Alliance. Did anyone think the Crusaders were going to win last week?

Don't know the kid or any back story here but why did he stop playing football? other sport focus? burned out?

Shoutout to Bath (Lima) at 3-2 after an 0-10, totally non competitive season last year!
Bath scored 44 points in 10 weeks in 2022

It took them 2 weeks to eclipse that total and then some.

Good chance at going .500 or better with a playoff spot after going 0-10 and being shut out what 5-6 times in 2022?

Whatever happened to create the change must be working.

They will roll into week 8 at 7-0 with Coventry and Springfield the next 2 on their schedule. Saw them once, very solid both sides of the ball.

North has two Big 10 commits, and ironically enough it’s the RB commit to tOSU who is leaned less upon to be ‘the guy’ for his unit compared to the Illinois DL commit (who is a beast and has way more snaps.) SWD does a great job, don’t get it twisted, but the Panthers have a stable of RB’s to work with. Senior QB who has really improved; WR1 is a senior with general FBS interest that happens to be a very solid HSFB receiver.

North’s always had a lot of talent, and they may have even had more talent than PC in the last few years — it’s just this is a year where I think they’ve finally put together the ‘whole’ being greater than the sum of all parts. Central has some good HSFB talent, too, but it’s a combination of some youth and uncharacteristic silliness at times sprinkled in with bad luck, mixed in with a schedule weeks 1-5 where there is no ‘easy game.’ Expect them to run the table in their part of the OCC these next five weeks, per the usual.

He is a bball player committed to OSU at least that is who I think CP is referring to but 1 player is not going to make the difference between 14 - 1 and 0 - 5 no matter how good he is. Other schools have lost star players and were still competitive.

The back end of the schedule is brutal with the top 3 teams in the league weeks 7-9 and a better than the record says St. Marys week 10. They should beat OG this week but it'll take an upset somewhere to get to .500.

Still, 4-6, competitive, and a chance to slip in to the playoffs in the 14-16 range would be huge! I truly thought watching them last year they had nothing. Decent little running back, but he was young and small and I was fearful he'd get hurt.

The new coaching staff is definitely doing some amazing things! Great to see.

As for Ottawa-Glandorf....they had a really good QB in the 2020 and 2021 season and they fell off massively after he graduated. Last year they were 2-8 but competitive, but that was a veteran team. This year after losing a ton, they're terrible.

They're well coached so you know that's not the issue. Just not a lot of veteran talent playing football in Ottawa right now. It's hard to consistently put out those great years when you're a solid D5 school in a D3/4 league.

Yea, I noticed the back half is slightly unfavorable. Still a great season in the right direction all things considered.

And we know what is king in that District. I'm actually amazed at some of their football success

Biggest disappointment(s)

With their talent, Whitmer seems to underachieve

And, Division I? It blows some serious chunks. Clean up in aisle 5

Surprise: Perrysburg

After losing so much talent and experience from last year's team, for them to be 5-0 and ranked #5 in the D1 AP poll is a huge, huge surprise. Offensively they have only 3 starters back (Gavin Fenneken the WR, Andrew Boden on the OL who they moved from LT to Guard and I guess you can count Landon Graham who played TE last year and is now the RT). And on Defense they only have 2 starters back (Seney at LB and Swanson at Safety).

To be fair, outside of Marysville (who maybe isn't all that good this year either) their schedule hasn't been real tough. St. Francis, Fremont Ross and Clay are not very good and Southview is not as good as expected. They will have their chance next week to prove how good they are when they play Toledo Whitmer and Findlay in back to back weeks.

Marysville did just lose by 50 so there’s that . If PBURG was playing a CO schedule they are no where near 5-0 . Props to them for beating what’s been in front of them

No doubt about it. But this isn't a "how good do you think this team is" thread. It's how surprised/disappointed you are in a particular team. Being involved in this team and program the past 4+ years and knowing a lot of the kids and how they looked in 7on7's, etc last year just makes it an ever bigger surprise. But I am SUPER excited and proud of them. I said in another thread they would be 4-6 to 6-4 at best. Glad to be wrong about them! They will be 7-4 at worst with another playoff appearance. They are not losing to Northview or Springfield, so there's 7 W's right there. The AP has them ranked #8 currently and I know they are not THAT good, but again, super proud of them for being 5-0.

Even if they lost to Marysville, AW, Whitmer and Findlay this season they would still go 6-4, not sure how 4-6 would even be possible with their schedule. Not sure they deserve to be called a surprise for beating 4 teams they should beat every year and 2-3 Marysville even if they are playing well.
