Let's see some of the best runs over the course of 10 seasons. Some that came to my mind:

Coldwater from 2007-2016:
131-17
Five state titles; four state runner-up

Kirtland from 2011-2020:
138-6
Six state titles; three state runner-up

Lakewood St. Edward from 2010-2019:
113-20
Four state titles

Marion Local from 2011-2020:
133-12
Seven state titles; two state runner-up

Toledo Central Catholic from 2011-2020:
114-18
Two state titles; one state runner-up

In the playoff era...Newark Catholic, Moeller and St.Ignatius come to mind. Oh, and Delphos St.John.

2011-2019 Marion Local has to be at the top of the small school list. How many years did they win the state championship in their division and also beat 1 if not 2 state champions or runners up in other divisions during the regular season? The 2014 Flyers may have been the best high school football team I've ever seen. Back to back 15-0 D7 champions that beat the D6 and D5 champions in that year alone, plus beating the D5 champ in 2013 and D5 runners up in 2011. Only lost 4 games in 4 years, 1 was to 15-0 Coldwater and another was to St. John's who they beat later that year in the state semifinals. It's hard to even compare what Kirtland is doing right now to what Marion Local did from 2011-2014.

Will be hard for any D7 team to match that 2014 Marion Local team. They beat D5 Champion Coldwater by 20 points. Coldwater went on to defeat an undefeated Canton Central team by 40 points in the state finals. Canton Central wasn't too shabby that year. They had to get by Ursuline and Bishop Hartley in the playoffs before meeting Coldwater. That 2014 Marion Local team also beat the D6 Champion Minster by 28 points. Minster went on to defeat Kirtland in the finals.

It certainly makes me wish all the more that we could play in the MAC. Could you imagine Coldwater, Marion Local, AND Kirtland in the same conference? Kirtland’s won its conference/division title probably 13 out of the last 15 years. No way that happens in the MAC.

And you’re right. Marion Local 2011-14 was unstoppable. Their wins are more notable than Kirtland because of the insane conference they play in. With that being said I would have loved to see Kirtland get the chance to play other DVI/DVII champs in the same season, but geographically it doesn’t work.

Marion Local probably goes 100-0 with Kirtland’s regular season schedule the past ten years. Playing in a conference like the MAC makes theirs & Coldwater’s runs all the more impressive.

Speaking of which...Kirtland might be bumping back down to D6 next year, so we might be seeing the MAC again if we both keep our success going. Also, I just realized that if ML beats Kirtland in 15 & 18, they would have been looking at a clean sweep of 10 state titles in 10 years this season.

Should the Flyers stay in D7, I fully expect title #12 for them next season.

Pre-Playoff era, Fremont Ross and Sandusky had some outstanding 10- year runs. Sandusky's Sensational Sixties garnered an 88-10-2 record while Ross had a stretch from 1948-57 that went 83-11-6. Much of those years being in the competitive Buckeye League/Conference.

Not sure of their overall record but from 1992-2002 Valley View High School won three state titles (94, 96, and 97), made it to the semifinals 7 times (92, 93, 94, 96, 97, 00, 02), and qualified for the playoffs every year.

I don't know, Kirtland has 7 losses in 11 years. You talk about the 2014 Flyers having 4 losses. the 2015 Cavaliers were 57-3 in their HS careers. Lost twice to those Flyers, and also defeated them twice. I guarantee you there are Kirtland teams that have done even better than that. I'm just not going to look them up right now.

Very impressive run at the D1 level! I believe my St X Bombers lost to Iggy in a couple of those state championship games.

Proud of my hometown team too so I have to list them. Not sure they belong in this conversation but here we go.

In the 25 seasons between 1979-2003, the Mogadore Wildcats won 80% of their games, achieving a record of 243-60-1.
They appeared in 7 state championship games, winning 3.
They made the playoffs 17 times, winning 13 regional championships.
Mogadore has historically been the most successful program in the Akron area, no one else is close.

What even makes that stretch from 94-03 even more impressive is that 7 of the 22 loses came in one year (97). Only 15 loses over the remaining 9 years is pretty good. Marion Local prevented two more championships in 2000 and 2001. The best three year stretch in Mogadore history was 2000-2002- 42 wins 3 loses (14-1 each year) with 1 state title and 2 state runner ups. Without looking up the 99 year record, I believe the seniors on the 2002 championship team went 52-5 over their careers with a 15-2 playoff record.

If State Championships seem to be the main metric, doesn't Hoban get on this list with 5(+1 Reg.ch. game) regardless of what they did 2011-2014 or what they will do 2021-2024?
